RESEARCH ON ULTRA LOW EMISSION TECHNOLOGY FOR LARGE DISPLACEMENT MOTORCYCLES

  • With the aim of achieving half the regulated value of EURO-3 Emission Regulations, an ultra low emission motorcycle has been developed based on a motorcycle with an 1800 $cm^3$, horizontal opposed 6-cylinder engine. For the fuel supply system, an electronically controlled fuel injection system was applied. For the emission purification system, three-way catalysts, a feedback control system with a LAF(Linear Air-Fuel ratio) sensor, and a secondary air induction system were applied. To reduce CO and HC emissions during cold starting, an early catalyst activation method combining RACV(Rotary Air Control Valve) and retarded ignition timing was applied. After the catalyst activation, air-fuel ratio was controlled to maximize the purification ratio of the catalyst according to vehicle speed. For the air-fuel ratio control system, the LAF sensor was used. Furthermore, fine adjustment by the LAF feedback control reduced torque fluctuation due to the air-fuel ratio change. As a result, smooth ride feeling was maintained. Owing to these technologies, half the regulated value of EURO-3 has been achieved without any negative impact to the large-scaled motorcycles' drivability. This paper presents the developed ultra low emission technologies including the control method using an LAF sensor.

Single Isolation Structure of High Aperture Ratio for a PMOLED

  • We have developed a self-aligned single isolation structure (SIS) and an asymmetric single isolation structure with an image reversal photoresist to increase the aperture ratio in a passive matrix organic light emitting display (PMOLED). Compared to the conventional structure, the fabrication process is reduced by about 17% and the aperture ratio is enlarged over 4%.

  • Visual perception experiments were conducted to determine the acceptable limit of the contrast ratio of LCD TV under the watching condition. The results showed that the corresponding contrast ratio should be below 10,000:1 at the 3H(height of screen) distance in the living room environment.

대형 수소-천연가스 기관의 수소첨가율에 따른 노크발생 한계압축비 (The Limit Compression Ratio of Knock Occurring by $R_{dH2}$ in the Heavy Duty Hydrogen-CNG Fueled Engine)

  • A heavy duty hydrogen-natural gas fueled engine can obtain stable operation at ultra lean conditions and reduce emissions extremely. Reduction of $CO_2$ in its engine is one of the most benefit. In this study, rate of hydrogen addition($R_{dH2}$) and compression ratio($\varepsilon$) were investigated including performance of this engine. As results, it was found that phenomenon of pressure oscillation when increasing $R_{dH2}$ and $\varepsilon$, it means occurring knock. It consider that pressure oscillation was increased due to fast burning speed of hydrogen. Even if same compression ratio, pressure oscillation was remarkable increased according to increasing $R_{dH2}$. Therefore, limit compression ratio of knock occurring was reduced by increasing $R_{dH2}$.

국민연금의 소유지분비율이 기업가치에 미치는 영향 연구: 스튜어드십 코드 도입과 R&D 투자를 중심으로 (Effect of National Pension Service's Shareholding Ratio on Firm Value: Focusing on Stewardship Code Implementation and R&D Expenditure )

  • 본 연구는 국민연금의 소유지분비율과 투자대상기업의 기업가치 간 관계에서, 투자대상기업이 R&D 투자를 늘리도록 독려하여 기업가치의 제고를 간접적으로 꾀할 수 있을 것으로 판단하여 R&D 투자 정도의 매개효과를 분석하였고, 2018년 7월 스튜어드십 코드의 도입에 따라 투자대상회사에 대한 R&D 투자 및 기업가치 향상 압박이 도입 전에 비해 더 커졌을 것으로 판단하여 위 매개효과에 스튜어드십 코드 도입이 미칠 조절효과를 분석하였다. 2016년부터 2021년까지의 한국 상장회사 자료들을 활용하여 분석한 결과, 국민연금의 소유지분비율과 기업가치 간 관계에서 R&D 투자의 부분적 매개효과가 존재하고, 국민연금의 스튜어드십 코드 도입은 소유지분비율과 R&D 투자와의 관계, 소유지분비율과 기업가치와의 관계를 모두 강화시켜 조절효과가 존재함을 확인했다. 이는 국민연금의 스튜어드십 코드 도입 전후에 따라 소유지분비율과 기업가치 간 관계에서 R&D 투자 정도의 매개효과가 달라지는, 조절된 매개효과가 존재하는 것으로 나타났다.

서울시 신축한옥의 면적별 평면구성에 따른 공간적 특징에 관한 연구 (The Study on the Spatial Characteristics of the Newly-built Hanok in Seoul by Planar Configuration according to Area)

  • According to the relation of the attribution of residents, we analyzed the spatial characteristics of newly-built Hanok in Bukchon focused on a spatial area-ratio, the number of rooms, L/D/K configuration. The results are as follows: 1) Have increased the number of residents, the family members are also increased. In this study, the major formed case is 3 residents and two-generation family. 2) In the most cases, R area-ratio is the highest, next to L/D/K integrated area-ratio. While the examples that the L/D/K integrated area-ratio is lower than R area-ratio, or is also higher than R area-ratio are appeared. These examples can present that it has a tendency to secure the necessary room depending on the attribution of residents. 3) L/D/K is classified into four types of connection. And the characteristics depending on the number of rooms are as follows. L+DK is the most common type, next to LDK>LD+K>L+D+K. And L+DK is widely distributed in each sized area. And particularly, it is appeared mostly in 3R.

R&D Expenditure, International Trade and Economic Growth: Korea's Experience

  • Purpose - The purpose of this research is to investigate whether Korea's economic growth can be explained by the endogenous growth theory. Specifically, we test whether R&D expenditure has a positive and significant effect on the economic growth. Research design, data, and methodology - We hypothesize that R&D expenditure has a positive effect on the economic growth after adding control variables in the growth equation. Korean annual data from 1963 to 2011 from Science and Technology Annual of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, the Bank of Korea, etc. are used. We estimate the growth equation by GMM in addition to OLS. Results - We found that R&D expenditure has a positive and significant effect on the economic growth after adding the ratio of investment to GDP, the ratio of FDI to GDP, the ratio of government expenditure to GDP, inflation and the ratio of trade openness to GDP as control variables in the growth equation. Conclusions - Our results show that Korea's rapid economic growth for the past five decades can be explained by the R&D-based endogenous economic growth theory. Our results suggest that the policy attention of the Korean government be paid to R&D promotion.

PVA Technology for High Performance LCD Monitors

  • We have developed a high performance vertical alignment TFT-LCD (Thin Film Transistor Liquid Crystal Display), that shows a high light transmittance, and wide viewing angle characteristics with an unusually high contrast ratio. In order to optimize the electro-optical properties we have studied the effect of cell parameters, multi-domain structure and retardation film compensation. With the optimized cell parameters and process conditions, we have achieved a 24" wide UXGA TFTLCD monitor (16:10 aspect ratio 1920X1200) showing a contrast ratio of over 500:1, panel transmittance near 4.5%, response time near 25 ms, and viewing angle higher than 80 degree in all directions.

연구비 재원과 연구개발성과 : 간접비 비율의 조절효과를 중심으로 (R&D Funding and R&D Performance : The Moderating Effect of Indirect R&D Cost Ratio)

  • 국가연구개발사업의 예산 규모가 증가하고 연구비 오남용 사례들이 끊임없이 보고되는 가운데, 연구비 지출에 대한 통제와 관리의 필요성이 제기된다. 그러나 연구비 사용에 대한 과도한 규제는 연구비 지원정책 본연의 목적에 어긋나며, 연구수행기관의 연구개발성과에도 악영향을 줄 가능성이 높다. 특히, 연구자금 확보가 절실한 중소기업에게 연구비 규제는 더욱 민감하다. 이에 본 연구에서는 국가연구개발사업의 연구비 지원을 받은 중소기업을 대상으로 고정효과 패널모형을 사용하여, 중소기업의 연구비 재원과 연구개발성과에 대한 분석을 실시하였다. 그 결과, 정부연구비 규모가 커질수록 연구개발성과가 높아지는 것으로 나타나 정부연구비의 효과성이 실증적으로 검증되었다. 그러나 민간연구비의 효과성은 분석모형에 따라 달라지는 것으로 분석되었다. 또한, 연구비가 재량적으로 집행될수록(간접비 비율이 높아질수록) 정부연구비와 민간연구비의 효율성이 모두 증가하였으며, 특히 민간연구비의 효율성이 상대적으로 높게 증가함을 알 수 있었다. 한편 민간연구비의 경우, 간접비 비율에 따라 효과성이 조절될 수 있는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 분석결과를 바탕으로 다양한 행정가치들(효과성, 효율성, 책임성)간의 상호작용을 통해 연구비 재원과 연구개발성과를 살펴봄으로써, 중소기업의 연구개발성과를 높일 수 있는 정책적 시사점을 도출하였다.

동태적 복잡성을 고려한 최적의 연구개발 투자 전략 (Optimal Investment Strategy for Research and Development Considering Dynamic Complexity)

  • Recently, interest in research and development (R&D) investment decisions have increased among Korean domestic enterprises. However, existing R&D investment studies only focused on government R&D investment policies while only a few studies investigated firm level R&D investment. Prior literatures also overlooked the feedback loop between R&D investment and firm performance. Therefore, this paper identifies a system dynamics model for R&D investment decision making in domestic electronics firms. The conceptual model is derived from R&D investment-related theories found in bodies of literature on company performance, enterprise activity, and market maturity. This study investigates the dynamic feedback between R&D activities and sales using the system dynamics model. In other words, the system dynamics model is used to explain the change in the closed feedback circulation structure in R&D investment activities including technology development, production process, and marketing that subsequently result in sales increase and re-investment into R&D from the generated revenues. There are two major results. First, a similar ratio of investment on technology development and production process derives the higher company sales. Second, regardless of market maturity, marketing investment ratio positively affects sales and R&D budget growth. This study provides a system dynamics model to find the optimal ratio for R&D investment and suggests managerial strategic implications on electronic firm R&D investment decision making under market maturity condition.
