The projects of agricultural R&D investments have been evaluated largely on the basis of efficiency better than equity although both criteria are equally critical in that major fund source of agricultural R&D investments is public budget. In this study, I focus on equity aspects by identifying the heterogeneous impacts of public knowledge created by R&D on farm efficiencies by farm income levels using bias-corrected DEA and quantile regression with panel data. The findings indicate that entire farms haven't been likely to be benefited evenly from public knowledge stock created by agricultural R&D, in particular high income farms can have enjoyed relatively more benefits of its in terms of efficiency gain. Those can imply agricultural R&D have functioned in the way analogue to digressive subsidies. In addition, the heterogeneous technological needs different among income level farms turns out to be main underlying factors affecting such the skewed benefit distribution of agricultural R&D over different income level farms.
Some studies indicate that investors systematically underreact to new information in the stock market and Other studies indicate that investors systematically overreact. If investors irrationally react to the R&D intensity information, The portfolio strategy based on the R&D intensity information will be provided substantial excess returns. This study investigate that investors systematically underreact or overreact to the R&D intensity and whether portfolio strategy based on the R&D intensity is useful or not. Major results we as follows. First, This study indicate that investor systematically underreact to high R&D intensity and overreact low R&D intensity information. Second, after controlling the firm's specific factor such as firm size, BV/MV and past price performance, it is found that the performance of portfolio strategy based on the R&D intensity is not significant.
The purpose of this study is to analyze the influence of the cash flow of pharmaceutical companies on R&D investment. 143 pharmaceutical companies listed in the KOSDAQ market from 2009 to 2013. Financial statements and comments in general and internal transactions were extracted from TS-2000 of the Korea Listed Company Association (KLCA), and data related to stock price was extracted from KISVALUE-III of NICE Information Service Co., Ltd. STATA 12.0 was used as the statistical package for panel analysis. The summary of the findings and the interpretation of the significance of this are as follows: First, the current ratio (internal finance) had a positive influence on R&D investment. Second, the debt ratio (external finance) had a negative influence on R&D investment. The pharmaceutical company prefers internal funds to external funds due to the asymmetry of information in the loan markets. In other words, this shows why internal finances have a significant influence on R&D investment at pharmaceutical companies.
The purpose of this study is to analyze the influence of the financial structure of pharmaceutical companies on R&D investment. 358 pharmaceutical firms listed in the KOSDAQ market from 2000 to 2012. The summary of the findings and the interpretation of the significance of this are as follows: First, the shareholding ratio of major shareholders and foreigners had a positive influence on R&D investment. Second, the ratio of outside directors had a negative influence on R&D investment. Third, the shareholding ratio of institutional investors did not have a significant influence on R&D investment.
This paper examines the relationship between ownership structure and the intensity of R&D expenditures of a firm by analyzing the panel data composed of 553 manufacturing firms in KSE(Korea Stock Exchange) and KOSDAQ listed firms for the period of 2007-2014. The major findings are as follows; (1) Regarding the relationship between CEO stockholding and R&D intensity, we find the inverted-U shape relationship in KOSDAQ firms, consistent with the theoretical discussion and empirical studies on U.S. firms. The result suggests that management stockholding reduces agency problem at the R&D margin. On the contrary, the insignificant result in KSE firms seems to be due to the scant stockholding of most 'non-owner' CEOs. (2) Regarding the relationship between the largest shareholder's portion and R&D intensity, KSE firms exhibit negatively significant relationship, suggesting the existence of serious agency problem between the largest shareholder and the minor shareholders. This agency problem seems to be alleviated in KOSDAQ firms mainly because the founders with technology expertise are still in charge of the business. (3) Foreign investors seem to fail in effectively encouraging R&D expenditures in either KSE or KOSDAQ listed firms. This study contributes to the existing literature by showing for the first time that ownership structure affects R&D activities in different ways between KSE and KOSDAQ firms.
The purpose of this paper is investigating the effect and influence rates of utilizing thin walled energy absorption tubes for improving crashworthiness parameter by increasing energy absorption of the body in high speed railcars. In order to find this, a proper profile of available tubes is chosen and added to the structure of selected high speed train in Iranian railway network (Pardis Trainset) and then examined in the scenario of impact with other moving rolling stock. Because of the specific features of LS-DYNA 3D software at collision analysis, the dynamic simulation has been performed in LS-DYNA 3D. The results of the analysis clearly indicate the improvement of train crashworthiness as the energy absorption of structure increases more than 30 percent in comparison with the original body. This strategy delays and reduces the shock to the structure. The verification of the simulation is by using ECE R66 standard.
This paper investigates the value relevance of advertising activity over the period from 2001 to 2009 in the listed Korean stock markets(KOSPI and KOSDAQ). In addition, this paper divide all sample firm into several subsample, based on R&D intensity and export ratio in total sales. The empirical result of this paper shows following two evidence; First, advertising intensity, which proxies for advertising activity, is significantly related to firm value at the 1% level of significance. Second, advertising activity of high R&D intensity and high export ratio sample firms has more significant value relevance than for firms with low R&D intensity and low export ratio. The empirical results suggest that moderation effect of R&D intensity and export ratio are very important factor in determining the value relevance of advertising activity.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of public R&D subsidies on private R&D. We have analyzed rationales for the public R&D subsidy from different perspectives. On the basis of literature review, a two step research model is constructed: participation phase (when firms benefit from public subsidies) and decision phase (when firms make decision on additional R&D investments). Using propensity score matching(PSM) method, we compare the potential outcome of the treated group to a matched controlled group of non-subsidized firms. The data used in this paper was collected from various sources. The Korean Innovation Survey 2008(manufacturing sector) is a main source of data. Financial data such as revenue, asset and capital stock, and number of employees were supplemented from the Nice Information Service KIS Value database. The R&D survey, conducted by MEST(Ministry of Education, Science and Technology) each year, was also used for the R&D expenditures of the manufacturing firms. This study comes up with the following empirical results. First, a firm's innovation capability, financial constraints, and sector appear to influence the selection of firms who were benefited from government's financial supports for R&D. Second, empirical results show that public R&D funding complements private investment on average and appear to have perpetual effects on the following year. Finally, sectoral difference in the effect of public subsidies on firms' R&D investment was confirmed. In addition, SMEs show more positive effects than large firms.

The railway vehicle has an auxiliary power unit for supplying power to the associated electronic control devices and passenger service unit. Typically, input voltage from the catenary for rolling stock is highly fluctuating according to the substation capacity, vehicle propulsion and regeneration. Especially, the frost and freezing on contact wire in winter can cause a blackout inside vehicle, and also brings about electronic components damaging and the system down. To prevent this problem, a large filter and capacitor is used. But this is not a perfect solution, because it is increasing weight of the unit. In this paper, a new algorithm is proposed to suppress the disturbance without adding devices. Simulation and experimental results show that the proposed algorithm has performance to suppress the disturbance at the sudden input voltage variations.
The rolling stock is composed of several cars. In order to operate in combination, it is necessary to connect the device, called coupler, between the rolling stocks. When the collision occurs between cars, couplers should be able to absorb the shock. Urban railway has used only rubber absorbers. But recently, the hydraulic buffer has been considered in general railway. In order to know the performance of the buffer it should be conducted to experiments. But whenever this combination change, we should experiments to know a lot of the dynamic behavior of each coupler. These experiments are generally replaced by the simulation, since a lot of time and cost consuming. The quasi-static map of hydraulic buffer obtained by the experiments is required for the simulation. However, the experiments for obtaining such a quasi-static map is costly and time consuming. In this paper, it proposes a method for deriving the quasi-static map of hydraulic buffer from the theoretical model.
