  • The lignin contents between IR-29 and Pokkali were not significantly different in the absence of NaCl, but they were slightly increased at 40 mM NaCl. Although lignin contents were not relatively significantly different between salt treated and control plants, the total yields of alkaline nitrobenzene oxidation ranged from 17.4-20.0 mg/g of cell wall residue at 40 mM NaCl were significantly different compared with control plants (11.8-12.2 mg/g). The total amounts of ester-linked hydroxycin-namic acids in IR-29 were decreased from 14.5 to 9.9mg/g, while Pokkali is almost same levels (14.9-15.0 mg/g) under treated and control with 40 mM NaCl. In contrast, the total amounts of ether-linked hydroxycinnamic acids were increased from 9.4 to 13.9 mg/g together with an opposite trend in Pokkali as a decrease 10.9 to 8.8 mg/g under treated and control with 40 mM NaCl. These results revealed that IR-29 is more sensitive in response to 40 mM NaCl in terms of hydroxycinnamic acids than Pokkali.

  • In this paper, we find out the lifetime index in order to determine the time-dependent trend of deteriorating performance of 6.6kV high-voltage power cable in operation at a power station. The cable systems used in our study have been in operation for 13 years. With measurements for the 13 years, we analyzed the insulation resistances. By developing measuring equipment (comprized mainly of transformer, temperature sensor, and LPF) operating by the three-phase electric power, we analyzed the changing characteristics of insulation resistance of power cable. In contrast to 22kV cables, 6.6 kV cables have thicker insulation. Therefore the characteristics of 6.6kV cables are different from that of 22kV cables. The study found that as time passes, the insulation resistance does not decrease continuously; it decreases to a certain value, then does not decrease any more and shows properties of oscillation. We could not detect the process of deterioration in the preceding twelve years. The cable system showed great stability so that deterioration was not apparent. In this case, it is not possible to measure the future life indices of power cables because the lifetime indices are not predictable

  • The purpose of present study performed 27 CFRD cases analyses to predict and effectively use post-construction crest settlement, face slab deformation, and leakage as indexes for the maintenance and management of concrete faced rockfill dams(CFRD). The results showed that the range of post-construction crest settlement suggested by Sherard and Cooke (1987), and Clements (1984) had a good agreement in the case analyses using rockfills with very high intact strength, but it had a trend which underestimated crest settlement in the cases using rockfills with medium to high intact strength. The leakage case analyses showed that leakage is mainly caused by face slab deformation due to the water load, the maximum leakage in general was observed during the first reservoir filling, and leakage was rapidly increasing when the dam height exceeds 125m.

  • During a 5-yr period, 1994-1998, pre-weaning and weaning data were collected on 591 calves produced by mating either straightbred Jersey, straightbred Limousin or $F_1$ (Limousin${\times}$Jersey) bulls to mature purebred Jersey or Limousin cows. Traits recorded included birth and weaning weight, height, length, girth, fat depth and a measure of muscle (ratio of stifle to hip width expressed as a percentage). All traits were analyzed assuming a model with sire and dam random effects that included effects of year and date of birth, sex, breed and year${\times}$sex interaction. Main effects were generally significant with few exceptions. Direct genetic effects were large for weight, height, girth and muscle with a breed trend from purebred Jersey (small) to purebred Limousin (large). At weaning, the maternal effect of the Jersey dam was positive for weight (10.9${\pm}$4.9 kg), girth (3.7${\pm}$1.0 cm) and muscle (6.0${\pm}$0.9%). Heterosis was highly significant and positive only for fat depth (1.5${\pm}$0.2 mm) with the $F_1$ progeny being the fattest, followed by the backcrosses, then purebred Jersey and purebred Limousin. Also, significant (p<0.001) but negative heterosis was observed for weight, girth and muscle. The change in ranking for fat depth relative to other traits is a reflection of the large heterotic effects relative to direct effects on fat depth. Epistatic effects were not significant on any trait at birth or weaning. This study has indicated the possibility of exploiting the positive heterotic and maternal effects for fat depth and muscularity to meet specific meat quality and quantity demand by consumers.

  • Lysine intake during gestation has a major impact on subsequent reproductive performance. The objective of this experiment was to determine the effect of lysine intake from mid-gestation until farrowing on the reproductive performance of multiparous sows. On day 30 of gestation, 200 Landrace${\times}$Large White sows were randomly assigned to one of four groups based on body weight and parity (n = 50). The gestation diets contained 0.46, 0.56, 0.65 or 0.74% lysine. Increasing dietary lysine concentration improved sow body condition at farrowing and increased litter weights (p<0.05). Dietary lysine level also had a significant effect on the dry matter (p<0.05) and protein content (p<0.05) of colostrum. Increased lysine intake increased serum insulin concentration (p<0.05) and there was a trend towards increased serum prolactin content (linear, p = 0.07). However, increased lysine tended to decrease blood urea N (quadratic, p = 0.05). These results suggest that higher lysine levels (0.65-0.75%) than those recommended by the National Research Council improved reproductive performance for multiparous gestating sows and this increase may be partially mediated through blood metabolites or metabolic hormone levels.

  • Digital textile printing(DTP) is becoming more important because the production trend of textile printing goods is adapting to small-lot multiple items. Recently enhanced use of DTP is closely connected with production of high value-added products in fashion industry, which is also appropriate for quick response system(QRS). Quality of DTP depends on pre-treatment, after-treatment, ink, media, printer, etc. One of these parameters, Selection of good media is very important to obtain high quality of DTP products. Especially, the effects of media on printing quality of DTP according to yarn twist and structure of knitting fabric were examined in this study. Two types of yarn twist of 830 t.p.m and 1630 t.p.m for cotton knit were used and five types of media structures were knitted with single circular knitting machine. First, MIU, MMD, SMD's values are closely related with surface roughness of sample as well as printing quality. The hard twist samples were higher values than normal twist samples in the same media structure. In case of SMD, the values increased from plain to corduroy types. Second, aspect of line sharpness, line area, and line width values of hard twist samples decreased from plain to corduroy than those of normal twist samples. Third, line deviation values of hard twist samples, blurriness of line, also decreased than those of normal twist samples.

  • As the environmental performance is getting important in global automotive industry sector, there is a need to build the intellectual capacity. Hence it is important to measure the performance of the green car patent development of global automotive companies. To do this, we propose to use Data Envelopment Analysis(DEA) Model with Analytic Network Process(ANP), which generates weight coefficients of inputs and outputs for DEA-AR(Assurance Region) model. We considered three inputs: corporate asset, R&D expenditures, number of employees, and three outputs: patent counts, patent citations and patent claims. The results showed that our model could measure the potential of green car technology, and we could see the trend of the green car industry sector.

  • Purpose: This study was performed in order to obtain basic data for policy development and R&D to sharpen competitiveness in domestic agricultural machinery industry by analyzing the recent status of demand and supply for tractor, rice transplanter(riding type), and combine. Methods: Basic data from 199,275 units of tractor, rice transplanter (riding type), and combine was offered by the National Agricultural Cooperative Federation and Korea Agricultural Machinery Industry Cooperative. Those agricultural machines were supplied by the government's loan support from 2003 to 2012. Results: Recent supply of tractor is only 13,000 units or so per annum, thereby being stagnated. Rice transplanter and combine in 2012 corresponded to 3,810 units and 2,490 units, respectively. The domestic market share of the imported agricultural machinery accounted for 60.0% in tractor, 99.5% in saddle rice transplanter, and 80.9% in combine, thereby having been sharply increased 33.1%p, 42.0%p and 53.6%p compared to the ones in 2003. Life spans of tractor, combine and saddle rice transplanter are 3.7, 3.7 and 4.2 years, respectively. Among the discontinued models, the one less than 300 units supplied was occupied up to 70~85%. Conclusions: The domestic demand and the export expansion are needed through developing a model of agricultural machinery of having competitiveness to domestically activate agricultural machinery industry.

  • Australia is the world's top gold, nickel, iron ore, lead, zinc and uranium, and is ranked in the top five in many other important minerals. Extension to existing resources will continue to support well-established local production. There are perceptions by some that Australia is a mature exploration destination where the easily won near-surface deposits were largely discovered many decades ago. In recent years, Australia faces increasing global competition for investment spending in all jurisdictions in which mineral exploration is encouraged. Many regional communities face the threat of losing their main economic driver as a number of long-term mines are reaching the end of their economic life. However, given the trend of increasing mineral demand due to the 4th industrial revolution, it is considered that Korea is also an opportunity to acquire global competitiveness of geoscience and mining technology by smart and digital mining, and by ICT-convergence technology R&D.
