  • In this study, a finite element analysis of a cylindrical multi-pass weldment for dissimilar metals was performed. The effects of the heat input method and weld bead generation method were considered. We compared two heat input methods: the heat flux method and the temperature method. We also compared two weld bead generation methods: the element birth method and the quiet element method. Although the results of the thermal analysis show deviations between the two heat input methods, the welding residual stresses were similar. Because the areas exposed to high temperature were similar and the strength of the material was very low in high temperature (above the $1000^{\circ}C$), the effects of the weld bead temperature were insignificant. The distributions of the welding residual stress were similar to each other. However, gaps and overlaps occurred on the welding boundary surfaces when the element birth method was applied. The quiet element method is more suitable for a large deformation model in order to simulate a more accurate weld shape.

  • This study investigates the meaning, the method of "Cultivation of the fundamental" as aim of child education in context of the Xing-Li-Xue(性理學) educational theory. Chu-hsi understood the meaning of "Cultivation of the fundamental" as Ching(敬, the cultivation of good nature in human mind). The method of "Cultivation of the fundamental" consists of quiet sitting(정좌), attention(주의집중), moral environment(도덕적 환경) and practicing propriety(예의 실습). Through quiet sitting and attention, learners may reach a condition of mind which is free of their selfish desires and in which they can find out their original nature. The education in Confucianism accepts the environment as a significant element in forming human personality. Making moral environment has leaners to take good value with ease. Characteristic of study in Xing-Li-Xue is to emphasize to observe concrete clauses of propriety. The reason why Xing-Li-Xue emphasizes propriety is that Mind Study may be maintained through Body Study. In conclusion, the "Cultivation of the fundamental" in the Xing-Li-Xue is to form the power to regulate selfish desires and thus behave more moderately. Along these points, not only quiet sitting which relexes the body and soul, but also song and dance are not considered as contrary to Xing-Li-Xue educational theory. The various ways of "Cultivation of the fundamental" of Xing-Li-Xue educational theory make people recognize, understand and experience good innate nature of human beings. And we can reach the conclusion that education of Xing-Li-Xue uses so many methods that learner can accept moral value as naturally as possible.

  • This paper considers dynamic impedance functions and presents a detailed analysis of the soil plasticity influence on the pile-group foundation dynamic response. A three-dimensional finite element model is proposed, and a calculation method considering the time domain is detailed for the nonlinear dynamic impedance functions. The soil mass is modeled as continuum elastoplastic solid using the Mohr-Coulomb shear failure criterion. The piles are modeled as continuum solids and the slab as a structural plate-type element. Quiet boundaries are implemented to avoid wave reflection on the boundaries. The model and method of analysis are validated by comparison with those published on literature. Numerical results are presented in terms of horizontal and vertical nonlinear dynamic impedances as a function of the shear soil parameters (cohesion and internal friction angle), pile spacing ratio and frequencies of the dynamic signal.

  • In an apartment house In Korea, the balcony is one of the important spaces as a buffer zone for controlling the outdoor environments such as noise, heating & cooling load, humidity etc. Because most areas of building facade in apartment building occupy the area of balcony window the sound Insulation design of It Is very Important to provide the quiet indoor environment. The aim of this research is to evaluate the sound insulation of balcony windows in apartment building by new and revised Korean Industrial Standards. We measured and studied the sound insulations of 18 balcony windows by the type of measuring methods, noise sources, correction of reverberation time in balcony and so on. The results show that the single-number quantities for sound insulation of windows are ranged from 24 dB to 30 dB.

  • This paper presents a method for active noise control (ANC) in a duct by using a ring-tyPe smart foam. The ring-type smart foam consists of an elastic porous material of lining shape and a PVDF film embedded In the material. The PVDF element acts as a secondary sound source to reduce the noise. Active noise control using a ring-type smart foam is only effective locally because of the way to excite radially. To enlarge the quiet zone, the duct Is lined with additional acoustic foam between the smart foam and the error microphone. When cancellation path ks optimized by the LMS/RLS algorithm, the computation power is reduced while control performance Is maintained. The filtered-x LMS algorithm is used to minimize the error signal.

  • It is very difficult to form a desired complex sound field at a designated region precisely as an application of acoustic arrays, which is one of important objects of array systems. To solve the problem, a filter design method was suggested, which employed the concept of an inverse method using the acoustical holography based on the boundary element method. In the acoustical holography used for the source identification, the measured field data are employed to reconstruct the vibro-acoustic parameters on the source surface. In the analogous problem of source array design, the desired field data at some specific points in the sound field was set as constraints and the volume velocity at the surface points of the source plane became the source signal to satisfy the desired sound field. In the filter design, the constraints for the desired sound field are set, first. The array source and given space are modelled by the boundary elements. Then, the desired source parameters are inversely calculated in a way similar to the holographic source identification method. As a test example, a target field comprised of a quiet region and a plane wave propagation region was simultaneously realized by using the array with 16 loudspeakers.

  • Investigating and evaluating the long-term creep behavior of historical buildings built on seismic zones is of great importance in terms of transferring these structures to future generations. Furthermore, assessing the earthquake behavior of historical structures such as masonry stone bridges is very important for the future and seismic safety of these structures. For this reason, in this study, earthquake analyses of a masonry stone bridge are carried out considering strong ground motions and various water levels. Tokatli masonry stone arch bridge that was built in the 10th century in Turkey-Karabük is selected for three-dimensional (3D) finite difference analyses and this bridge is modeled using FLAC3D software based on the three-dimensional finite difference method. Firstly, each stone element of the bridge is modeled separately and special stiffness parameters are defined between each stone element. Thanks to these parameters, the interaction conditions between each stone element are provided. Then, the Burger-Creep and Drucker-Prager material models are defined to arch material, rockfill material for evaluating the creep and seismic failure behaviors of the bridge. Besides, the boundaries of the 3D model of the bridge are modeled by considering the free-field and quiet boundary conditions, which were not considered in the past for the seismic behavior of masonry bridges. The bridge is analyzed for 6 different water levels and these water levels are 0 m, 30 m, 60 m, 70 m, 80 m, and 90 m, respectively. A total of 10 different seismic analyzes are performed and according to the seismic analysis results, it is concluded that historical stone bridges exhibit different seismic behaviors under different water levels. Moreover, it is openly seen that the water level is of great importance in terms of earthquake safety of historical stone bridges built in earthquake zones. For this reason, it is strongly recommended to consider the water levels while strengthening and analyzing the historical stone bridges.
