Mechanical and microstructural characteristics of a high-strength boron-alloyed steel for hot press forming (고온성형 위한 고강도보론강의 기계적 특성 및 마이크로구조 연구)

  • The use of high strength steels are gradually increasing to reduce the weight of automobile to improve the environmental problems and collision safety. To encounter the traditional disadvantages of high strength steels like as a poor formability and high springback, hot press forming has been developed. By this method, the strength of steel sheet is increased about three times of original one through die quenching process. In order to the design of hot press forming tools by using numerical simulation, the knowledge of mechanical and microstructural characteristics are required. This study show the mechanical and microstructural characteristics of a high strength boron-alloyed steel according to the various quenching conditions.

  • The high temperature superconductor transformer gains interests from the industries. This paper examined characteristics of the laboratory scale three phase HTS transformer and Brandt equation is used to calculate the loss by perpendicular magnetic field in transformer winding. To estimate the performance of the three phase HTS transformer no load characteristics, short circuit characteristics are calculated by using finite element method. Transient characteristics of sudden short circuit during full load operation have been examined. Effect of the resistance growth in the HTS wire from the quench of the wire is included in the calculation.

  • We investigated fault current limitation characteristics of the resistive superconducting fault current limiter (SFCL) which consisted of a Bi-2212 bulk coil and a shunt coil. The Bi-2212 bulk coil and the shunt coil were connected in parallel. The Bi-2212 bulk coil was placed inside the shunt coil to induce field-assisted quench. The fault test was conducted at an input voltage of $200V_{rms}$ and fault current of $12kA_{rms}\;and\;25kA_{rms}$. The fault conditions were asymmetric and symmetric, and the fault period was 5 cycles. The test results show that the SFCL successfully limited the fault current of $12kA_{rms}\;and\;25kA_{rms}$ to below $5.5{\sim}6.9kA_{peak}\;within\;0.64{\sim}2.17$ msec after the fault occurred. Limitation was faster under symmetric fault test condition due to the larger change rate of current. We concluded that the speed of fault current limitation was determined by the speed of current rise rather than the amplitude of a short circuit current. These results show that the Bi-2212 bulk coil is suitable for distribution-class SFCLS.

  • Racetrack coils are used in many areas of superconductivity applications such as generators, motors, maglev, wiggler magnets and so on. The fabrication and characteristics of race-track type High Tc Superconducting (HTS) magnets were carried out. The Magnet is composed of 3 pancake coils wound by 37-filamental Bi-2223/ Ag-alloy tapes. Quench current ($I_q$) of both whole magnet and 3 pancake coils were measured. At 77K under the self-field, $I_q$ of magnet was 12A, while in the case of middle pancake coil, $I_q$ was 15A. The upper pancake coils of racetrack magnet with iron plates, magnet having optimized current distribution and initial magnet are compared with each other through 3D FEA, manufacturing and testing these magnets. The measured performance of the upper pancake coil #3 with iron plates improved by 50% on the basis of initial pancake coil #3. Quench current ($I_q$) of field winding was 12A. In addition, the fabrication processes and the characteristics of HTS magnet are described.

  • The Partial breakdown (PBD) and complete breakdown (BD) voltage characteristics in a composite insulation system of glass fiber reinforced plastics (GFRP) and liquid nitrogen are investigated to find the PBB and BD characteristics in solenoid type high temperature superconducting (HTS) coils at quench. The electrode system used is made from a coaxial spiral coil-to-cylindrical electrode with an insulation barrier and spacers, and is immersed in liquid nitrogen. A heater is mounted inside the coil electrode to generate boiling which occurs on quenched superconducting coils. The experimental results show that: (1) breakdown voltages are affected severely by the risetime of the applied voltage and the PBD inception voltage, (2) two kinds of BD mechanisms are found depending on the shape of the spacer, length of cooling channel and heater power.

Analysis on Current Limiting Characteristics of Transformer Type SFCL with Additionally Coupled Circuit

  • In this paper, the transformer type superconducting fault current limiter (SFCL) with additionally coupled circuit was suggested and its peak fault current limiting characteristics due to the fault condition to affect the fault current were analyzed through the fault current limiting tests. The suggested transformer type SFCL is basically identical to the previous transformer type SFCL except for the additional coupled circuit. The additional coupled circuit, which consists of the magnetically coupled winding to the primary and the secondary windings together with another superconducting element and is connected in parallel with the secondary winding of the transformer type SFCL, is contributed to the peak fault current limiting operation for the larger transient fault current directly after the fault occurrence. To confirm the fault current limiting operation of the suggested SFCL, the fault current limiting tests of the suggested SFCL were performed and its effective peak fault current limiting characteristics were analyzed through the analysis on the electrical equivalent circuit.

  • The transformer is expected to be an essential component of resistive type superconducting fault current limiter (SFCL) for both the increase of voltage ratings in SFCL and the simultaneous quench due to different critical current between HTSC elements. However, for the design to prevent the saturation of iron core and the effective fault current limitation, the analysis for operation of SFCL with consideration for the magnetization characteristics are required. In this paper, the fault current limiting characteristics related with the magnetization ones were investigated through the variation of the ratio of the number of turns in the 1st and the 2nd windings. The proper design condition with variation of the number of turns to make the effective fault current limiting operation could be determined.

  • Recently a superconducting fault current limiter(SFCL) has public attentions for the solution of large fault currents of power systems. Though a SFCL has more effective characteristics than the other current limiting devices, there are many problems to apply it to real power systems. For the analysis of transient fault characteristics of the SFCL, we designed and fabricated a inductive SFCL and tested it in 35V line. The superconducting cable of the SFCL was quenched at lower current(49A) than the designed critical current but it limited the fault current to the lower value(150A) than the one expected without SFCL(250A). And within one period the fault current decreased lower than normal laod current.

  • Panax ginseng C. A. Meyer (Araliaceae) is listed in Shen Nung Pentsao Ching(神農本草經) as the remedy for replenishing the primodial qi(氣), restoring pulse, treating collapse, tonifing the spleen and lag, promoting the production of body fluid to quench thirst, tranquilizing the mind, and improving the function of brain. The prescriptions of In Sam Tang(人參揚) are also recorded in many other Chinese medical books. The identification of the age of Panax ginseng is very important in commercial market as well as in research field. However, any reports about it have not been clearly established yet. To clarify the criterion, the morphological and anatomical characteristics of the roots of various age Panax ginseng cultivated in Korea were studied. The characteristics of cork layer, secretory canal, and vessel were shown to bε useful keys to confirm the age of Panax ginseng.

  • In this paper, we propose non-soldered current lead was introduced which has low contact resistivity for fault current limiters of YBCO film. Carbon/Cu has good thermal conductivity, electrical conductivity and chemically stable, and so forth. Therefore it seems to be suitable material of current lead for current limiters of YBCO film. We have investigated electric field-current in field of 0-130 mT and quench characteristics of a YBCO film. Experimental results show that characteristics of transport is all right using Carbon/Cu-current lead.
