Seismic performance evaluation of mid-rise shear walls: experiments and analysis

  • Seismic performance evaluation of shear wall is essential as it is the major lateral load resisting member of a structure. The ultimate load and ultimate drift of the shear wall are the two most important parameters which need to be assessed experimentally and verified analytically. This paper comprises the results of monotonic tests, quasi-static cyclic tests and shake-table tests carried out on a midrise shear wall. The shear wall considered for the study is 1:5 scaled model of the shear wall of the internal structure of a reactor building. The analytical simulation of these tests is carried out using micro and macro modeling of the shear wall. This paper mainly consists of modification in the hysteretic macro model, developed for RC structural walls by Lestuzzi and Badoux in 2003. This modification is made by considering the stiffness degradation effect observed from the tests carried out and this modified model is then used for nonlinear dynamic analysis of the shear wall. The outcome of the paper gives the variation of the capacity, the failure patterns and the performance levels of the shear walls in all three types of tests. The change in the stiffness and the damping of the wall due to increased damage and cracking when subjected to seismic excitation is also highlighted in the paper.

  • 안벽에 계류된 선박에 대한 준정적(Quasi-Static)계류해석 방법이 정식화되었다. 본 해석방법은 태풍내습시의 안벽계류나 Load-Out시의 계류시 설계 그리고 터미날의 초기 설계등에 효율적으로 사용될 수 있다. 대개 $10{\sim}20$개의 계류삭으로 이루어지는 전체 계류계의 탄성거동은 계류삭의 길이가 대부분 짧고, 같은 평면이 있지 않으므로 인해 복잡한 비선형 현상을 보인다. 이를 처리하기 위하여 외력에 대해 전체 계류계가 준정적 거동을 한다는 가정하에 상기 거론한 모든 비선형 현상을 고려할 수 있는 하중증가법(Load Increment Technique)이 채택되었다.

Wind-induced dynamic response and its load estimation for structural frames of single-layer latticed domes with long spans

  • The main purpose of this study is to discuss the design wind loads for the structural frames of single-layer latticed domes with long spans. First, wind pressures are measured simultaneously at many points on dome models in a wind tunnel. Then, the dynamic response of several models is analyzed in the time domain, using the pressure data obtained from the wind tunnel experiment. The nodal displacements and the resultant member stresses are computed at each time step. The results indicate that the dome's dynamic response is generally dominated by such vibration modes that contribute to the static response significantly. Furthermore, the dynamic response is found to be almost quasi-static. Then, a series of quasi-static analyses, in which the inertia and damping terms are neglected, is made for a wide range of the dome's geometry. Based on the results, a discussion is made of the design wind load. It is found that a gust effect factor approach can be used for the load estimation. Finally, an empirical formula for the gust effect factor and a simple model of the pressure coefficient distribution are provided.

  • 최근, 지진하중에 대한 대공간구조무의 응답특성에 관한 연구가 다수 수행되었으며, 라이즈/스팬비가 큰 지붕구조에 대하여서는, 수평지진입력에 대한 역대칭모드의 증폭이 지배적으로 됨이 지적되었다. 본 연구에서 제안하는 정적지진하중평가법에서는, 라이즈가 있는 지붕구조의 내진설계를 수행함에 있어, 허용응력도설계법을 따르며, 그림1과 같이 설계용전단력를 지붕면에 따라 부가하는 정적평가법을 채용하고 이를 정적지진하중평가법이라 부르기로 한다. 본 논문의 구성으로서는, 정적평가법의 개념 및 정적설계식의 유도과정을 나타내고, 라이즈/스팬비가 서로 다른 지붕구조물을 대상으로 하여, 본 평가법에 의한 결과와 정적응답해석을 수행한 결과를 비교하고, 정적평가법의 타당성에 대하여 검토한다.

RTK-GPS와 가속도계 통합계산을 통한 구조물의 변위 해석 (Displacement Analysis of Structures using RTK-GPS/Accelerometer Integration Methods)

  • 구조물에서 발생하는 동적변위를 정확하게 취득하는 것은 토목구조물의 안전성을 평가하기 위한 필수적인 사항이다. 본 연구에서는 구조물에 발생하는 변위를 가장 정확하게 측정할 수 있는 RTK-GPS/가속도계 통합방법에 대한 비교와 분석을 수행하였다. 이를 위하여 가속도 자료로부터 동적 변위를 계산할 때에 사용할 수 있는 주요한 2가지 방법을 비교하였고, RTK-GPS로 측정한 변위와 가속도계로 측정한 변위를 통합하여 동적 변위와 정적, 준정적 변위를 모두 측정할 때에 사용할 수 있는 통합계산 방법들을 비교하였다. 엄밀한 비교를 위하여 캔틸레버 보를 제작하고 다양한 종류의 변위를 발생시킨 후 비교 대상 방법별로 이에 대한 측정 정확도를 평가하되 평가의 기준으로 LVDT 측정값을 사용함으로써 정확한 평가가 이루어지도록 하였다. 연구의 결과, 가속도 자료를 FIR 대역필터로 필터링 하고 이중적분하여 변위를 계산하는 방법이 가속도계를 이용한 동적변위 측정에 가장 적합한 것으로 나타났다. 또한, 동적변위와 정적변위, 준정적 변위를 종합적으로 측정하기 위한 RTK-GPS/가속도계 통합계산 방법으로는 대역별 변위 추출에 의한 통합 방법이 적합한 것으로 나타났다.

Numerical simulation of unsteady galloping of two-dimensional iced transmission line with comparison to conventional quasi-steady analysis

  • Most of the previous works on numerical analysis of galloping of transmission lines are generally based on the quasisteady theory. However, some wind tunnel tests of the rectangular section or hangers of suspension bridges have shown that the galloping phenomenon has a strong unsteady characteristic and the test results are quite different from the quasi-steady calculation results. Therefore, it is necessary to check the applicability of the quasi-static theory in galloping analysis of the ice-covered transmission line. Although some limited unsteady simulation researches have been conducted on the variation of parameters such as aerodynamic damping, aerodynamic coefficients with wind speed or wind attack angle, there is a need to investigate the numerical simulation of unsteady galloping of two-dimensional iced transmission line with comparison to wind tunnel test results. In this paper, it is proposed to conduct a two dimensional (2-D) unsteady numerical analysis of ice-covered transmission line galloping. First, wind tunnel tests of a typical crescent-shapes iced conductor are conducted firstly to check the subsequent quasisteady and unsteady numerical analysis results. Then, a numerical simulation model consistent with the aeroelastic model in the wind tunnel test is established. The weak coupling methodology is used to consider the fluid-structure interaction in investigating a two-dimension numerical simulation of unsteady galloping of the iced conductor. First, the flow field is simulated to obtain the pressure and velocity distribution of the flow field. The fluid action on the iced conduct at the coupling interface is treated as an external load to the conductor. Then, the movement of the conduct is analyzed separately. The software ANSYS FLUENT is employed and redeveloped to numerically analyze the model responses based on fluid-structure interaction theory. The numerical simulation results of unsteady galloping of the iced conduct are compared with the measured responses of wind tunnel tests and the numerical results by the conventional quasi-steady theory, respectively.

해상 양식시설의 계류시스템 실험 및 해석 (Experiment and Analysis of Mooring System for Floating Fish Cage)

  • 해상가두리의 안정성 및 기능성 향상을 위한 최적 계류시스템을 개발하기 위하여 천해역에 적합한 계류시스템을 검토하여 유연부 이 계류시스템을 선정하였다. 이를 위한 해석프로그램을 정립하고, 수리모형실험 결과와 비교하였다. 해석프로그램의 타당성을 확인 한 후, 적용할 만한 계류시스템을 구성하고 수치계산을 통하여 해상가두리를 위한 적정 계류시스템을 제시하였다. 해상가두리의 계류시스템은 유연부이 계류시스템이 권장되며, 계류배치는 탁월 외력환경과 일치하는 방향으로 하고, 수평계류삭인 나일론 로프는 해상가두리 길이의 0.5배 이상, 경사 와이어 로프는 수심의 2배 이상이 바람직한 것으로 나타났다. 또한, 중간부 이의 증설은 계류장력 및 표류변위를 감소시키는 효과를 가질 것으로 판단된다. 차후, 해상가두리의 동적응답 특성을 계류시스템 해석모델의 개발과 계류시스템의 설계가 요구된다.

  • In this paper, we propose an optimal design for starfish capturing manipulator module with four-bar linkage mechanism. A tool link with compliance is attached on the four-bar linkage, and the tool repeats detaching starfish from the ground and putting it into the storage box. Since the tool is not rigid and the manipulator is operating underwater, the trajectory of the tool tip is determined by its dynamics as well as kinematics. We analyzed the trajectory of the manipulator tool tip by quasi-static analysis considering both kinematics and dynamics. In optimization, the lengths of each link and the tool stiffness are considered as control variables. To maximize the capturing ability, capturing stroke of the four-bar manipulator trajectory is maximized. Reaction force and reaction moment, and other kinematic constraints were considered as inequality constraints.

구름 베어링 설계를 위한 유전 알고리듬 기반 조합형 최적설계 방법 (Genetic-Based Combinatorial Optimization Method for Design of Rolling Element Bearing)

  • In order to improve the efficiency of the design process and the quality of the resulting design for the application-based exclusive rolling element bearings, this study propose design methodologies by using a genetic-based combinatorial optimization. By the presence of discrete variables such as the number of rolling element (standard component) and by the engineering point of views, the design problem of the rolling element bearing can be characterized by the combinatorial optimization problem as a fully discrete optimization. A genetic algorithm is used to efficiently find a set of the optimum discrete design values from the pre-defined variable sets. To effectively deal with the design constraints and the multi-objective problem, a ranking penalty method is suggested for constructing a fitness function in the genetic-based combinatorial optimization. To evaluate the proposed design method, a robust performance analyzer of ball bearing based on quasi-static analysis is developed and the computer program is applied to some design problems, 1) maximize fatigue life, 2) maximize stiffness, 3) maximize fatigue life and stiffness, of a angular contact ball bearing. Optimum design results are demonstrate the effectiveness of the design method suggested in this study. It believed that the proposed methodologies can be effectively applied to other multi-objective discrete optimization problems.
