The image display is an Important component of PACS and of medical digital imaging chain. Displayed image qualify is affected by the physical characteristics of display device, appropriate clinical settings and calibrations, and ambient lighting conditions. The performance of display systems is continuously degraded over time due to luminance deterioration and changes of clinical setting parameters. A routine QC is recommended because the performance of display systems is continuously degraded over time. Ten flat panel monochrome LCD display devices were included in the evaluation of the QC effect. The effect of QC on primary class LCD medical display devices for selected QC tests was evaluated by comparing the performances, luminance response, luminance dependencies, display resolution and display chromaticity in this study, of before and after the calibration procedures. The effects of the QC are significant to luminance response and luminance spatial dependencies test and the other side, are slight to the display resolution and display chromaticity test. A routine QC of display device is essential for the consistency of medical image display and presentation. The study of the QC effects of display devices will play an important role in practical QC procedures of display devices.
According to the report of hydrologic modeling study, from a quantitative point of view, a lumped model is more efficient than a distributed model. A distributed model has to simplify geospatial characteristics for the shake of restricted application on computer calculation and field observation. In this reason, a distributed model can not help having some errors of water quantity modelling. However, considering a distribution of rainfall-runoff reflected spatial characteristics, a distributed model is more efficient to simulate a flow of surface water, The purpose of this study is modeling of spatial rainfall-runoff of surface water using grid based distributed model, which is consisted of storage function model and essential basin-channel parameters( slope, flow direction & accumulation), and that procedure is able to be executed at a personal computer. The prototype of this model is developed in Heongseong Multipunose Dam basin and adapted in Hapchon Multipurpose Dam basin, which is larger than the former about five times. The efficiency coefficients in result of two dam basin simulations are more than about 0.9, but ones at the upstream water level gauge station meet with bad result owing to overestimated rating curves in high water level. As a result of this study, it is easily implemented that spatially distributed rainfall-runoff model using GIS, and geophysical characteristics of the catchment, hereafter it is anticipated that this model is easily able to apply rainfall data by real time.

Rumen bypass fat is commonly added to increase energy intake in dairy cattle. The objective of this study is to examine the addition of rumen bypass fat during finishing period on performance and carcass characteristics in grain fed steers. This study was conducted as a completely randomized block design with 126 cross-bred steer calves (initial BW $471.5{\pm}7.5kg$) randomly assigned to pens with 9 steers/pen (n = 7 pens/treatment). Each pen was randomly assigned to one of two treatment groups; rumen bypass fat treatment (CCS, calcium soap of palm fatty acids) and control diet (CT, tallow). The diets were formulated to be isonitrogenous and isocaloric. Animals were fed twice daily at 110 % of the previous daily ad libitum intake. Blood from each sample was taken from the jugular vein. Muscle and adipose samples were collected from the longissimus dorsi regions. Feedlot performance and carcass characteristics were assessed. To examine adipogenic gene expression, quantitative real-time PCR was completed. Steers fed the CT had a greater level of performance for most of the parameters measured. The CT group had greater DMI (P < 0.05) and tended to have greater ADG (P < 0.10). Marbling score (P < 0.05) and quality grade (P < 0.05) were greater for steers fed the CT diet than those fed CCS. The longissimus muscle area tended to be greater (P < 0.10) in steers fed CT ($87.60cm^2$) than those fed CCS (84.88 cm2). The leptin mRNA expression was down-regulated (P < 0.05) in adipose tissue of steers fed a CCS when compared to those fed CT. These data suggest that calcium soap of palm fatty acids can be added to finishing diets without significant reduction in final body weight, although there may be modest reductions in marbling and quality scores.
We researched the variation of mineral composition with depth and the Cu adsorption behavior of Hwangto in the Okjong area, Hadong. The 4 Hwangto samples were collected from depth 10 cm, 25 cm, 2∼3 m and under 3 m from surface, and analyzed using the Xray Diffractometer. The Hwangto samples were mostly composed of clay minerals such as kaolinite and halloysite. Two samples from 10 cm and 25 cm contained Fe or Al hydroxide minerals, for example goethite or gibbsite. As depth increases, the content of quartz decreases but that of kaolinite increases. The amount of Cu removal was rapidly rised from pH 4, and reached about 90% at pH 6 and above 90% at pH 7. It is regarded that the trend of Cu removal was affected by the difference in mineral composition. It was relatively well matched between experimental value and calculated value by MINTEQA2 program in the case of high Cu concentration. From this study the precipitation has important role for the removal of Cu ions, particularly in the case of high Cu concentration. However, it was discord between experimental value and calculated one in the dilute concentration circumstances. The reason may be the mistake in parameters, insufficient reaction time, and inadequate consideration of reaction site in mineral surface.
Narcolepsy is characterized by sleep attack with excessive daytime sleepiness(EDS), cataplexy, sleep paralysis, and hypnagogic hallucination. Paradoxically, narcoleptics tend to complain of frequent arousals and shallow sleep during the night time despite their excessive sleepiness. However, nocturnal sleep fragmentation in narcoleptics is relatively ignored in treatment strategies, compared with sleep attack/EDS and cataplexy. In our paper, we attempted to investigate further on the poor nocturnal sleep in narcoleptics and to discuss possible treatment interventions. Out of consecutively seen patients at Seoul National University Sleep Disorders Clinic and Division of Sleep Studies, we recruited 57 patients, clinically assessed as having sleep attack and/or EDS. Nocturnal polysomnography and multiple sleep latency test(MSLT) were done in each of the subjects. We selected 19 subjects finally diagnosed as narcolepsy(mean age $26.0{\pm}18.3$ years, 16 men and 3 women) for this study, depending on the nocturnal polysomnographic and MSLT findings as well as clinical history and symptomatology. Any subject co-morbid with other hypersomnic sleep disorders such as sleep apnea or periodic limb movements during sleep was excluded. Sleep staging was done using Rechtschaffen and Kales criteria. Sleep parameters were calculated using PSDENT program(Stanford Sleep Clinic, version 1.2) and were compared with the age-matched normal values provided in the program. In narcoleptics, compared with the normal controls, total wake time was found to be significantly increased with significantly decreased sleep efficiency(p<.01, p<.05, respectively), despite no difference of sleep period time and total sleep time between the two groups. Stage 2 sleep%(p<.05), slow wave sleep%(p<.05), and REM sleep%(p<.01) were found to be significantly decreased in narcoleptics compared with normal controls, accompanied by the significant increase of stage 1 sleep%(p<.01). Age showed negative correlation with slow wave sleep%(p<.05). The findings in the present study indicate significant fragmentation of nocturnal sleep in narcoleptics. Reduction of REM sleep% and the total number of REM sleep periods suggests the disturbance of nocturnal REM sleep distribution in narcoleptics. No significant correlations between nocturnal polysomnographic and MSLT variables in narcoleptics suggest that nocturnal sleep disturbance in narcoleptics may be dealt with, in itself, in diagnosing and managing narcolepsy. With the objective demonstration of qualitative and quantitative characteristics of nocturnal and daytime sleep in narcoleptics, we suggest that more attention be paid to the nocturnal sleep fragmentation in narcoleptics and that appropriate treatment interventions such as active drug therapy and/or circadian rhythm-oriented sleep hygiene education be applied as needed.
Since the R&D Program for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises started in 1997 as a part of Small and Medium Business Administration, many companies succeeded to carry out the tasks and were charged royalty fees from the government aid program in return. However, some of them were unable to pay a royalty because of their poor financial positions. Failure to pay a royalty also led to adding administrative duties including debt collection and imposing a penalty of participation restriction for other R&D programs. To solve the problems incurred by a failure of royalty collection, a divided payment using a surety insurance was introduced in 2009. That is, the R&D program recipients who were charged royalties issue surety insurance policies and submit them to a collection agency with a plan of divided payment. In this study, we estimate the main benefits of introducing surety insurance for royalty collection. First, we analyze royalty collection results from recipients supported by the R&D program from 1997 to 2006. By doing so, we calculate the main parameters that will be used for estimating the 2011 collection results. Next, besides estimating the quantitative effect, which summarizes an increase of royalty collection via surety insurance, we also analyze various qualitative effects such as simplification of the collection process and expansion of opportunities for participation in R&D programs.
In granite quarry, stones are generally quarried along easily separating planes called as 'rock cleavage'. Because orientation and characteristics of the rock cleavage are directly involved with easy quarrying, it is the most important factor on selecting a direction of digging. Using AMS (anisotropy of magnetic susceptibility), we attempt to interpret rock fabrics in Geochang Granite Stone (JS, SD, AR, GD, BW, MD quarry) and discuss about determination of rock cleavages and correlation between the rock fabrics and cleavages. Based on mean susceptibility, thermo-susceptibility curves, and hysteresis parameters, Ti-poor MD and/or PSD magnetites are the main contributor to AMS of the granite stones. The systematic magnetic foliations with sub-vertical dip angle are developed in the whole granite quarries. In most of the granite quarries, the magnetic foliations are significantly consistent with grain plane. In the BW quarry, which has higher $P_J$ values than the others, the magnetic foliations coincide exceptionally with rift plane. These results suggest that rock cleavages in granite stone are related to rock fabrics meaning shape and spatial arrangement of crystals. Magnetic fabrics analysis using AMS method, therefore, can be a quantitative and effective tool for determination of rock cleavages in granite quarry.
Dextransucrase hyper-producing Leuconostoc mesenteroides B-512FMCM and dextransucrase constitutive mutants B-742CB and B-1355C catalyzed the transfer of glucose from sucrose to other carbohydrates which were present or were added to the reaction digests. When the acceptor was a maltose, gentiobiose, lactose or raffinose, there was produced a series of oligosaccharide acceptor products or single product based on the kinds of enzymes and reaction conditions. To obtain the quantitative information about the yield and the distribution of acceptor products and dextran two experimental parameters were studied: a) the ratio of acceptor to sucrose and b) the amount of enzyme at constant carbohydrate concentration (100 mM). As the amount of enzyme increased, the synthesis of acceptor products (of maltose or gentiobiose) increased, and the formation of dextran decreased. As the ratio of acceptor to sucrose increased, the amount of dextran and the number of acceptor-products decreased and the amount of acceptor-products increased. When maltose or gentiobiose was an acceptor, the glucose from sucrose was transferred to the C-6 hydroxyl group of the nonreducing-end glucose residue of accepters to give a homologous series of isomaltosyl dextrins. In case of lactose or raffinose, there was produced only one acceptor product from B-512FMCM dextransucrase reaction. In the lactose acceptor reaction, the glucose from sucrose was transferred to the C-2 hydroxyl of the reducing end glucose residue of lactose. To get a series of oligosaccharides from lactose or raffinose acceptor reaction we used B-742CB dextransucrase or B-1355C alternansucrase with 500 mM sucrose in reaction digest.

This study presents a gait analysis method (including time series analysis) using a smart insole as an objective and quantitative evaluating method after lumbar scoliosis surgery. The participant is a degenerative lumbar scoliosis patient. She took 3-min-gait-test four times(before and 8, 16, and 204-days after surgery) and 6-min-gait-test once(204-days after surgery) with smart-insoles in her shoes. Each insole has 8-pressure sensors, an accelerometer, and a gyroscope. The measured values were used to compare the characteristics of gait before and after surgery. The analysis showed that all of the patient's gait parameters improved after surgery. And after 6 months, the gait was more stable. However, after long walk, the swing duration of one leg was slightly shorter than that of the other again. It was a preclinical problem that could not be found in the visual examination by the practitioner. With this analysis method we could evaluate the improvement of patient quantitatively and objectively. And we could find a preclinical problem. This analysis method will lead to the studies that define and distinguish gait patterns of certain diseases, helping to determine appropriate treatments.
Since the forest succession is changing process in the structure and function of a forest for the long period of time, the objectivity of the process could be improved through the development of model or statistical methodology. This study was carried out to estimate succession index based on climax index and species composition parameters, thereupon to compare the succession index with life form and species diversity so as to grasp the information of quantitative successional process for the six community types in the natural deciduous forest of Mt. Jumbong area. The results indicated that Quercus mongolica-Tilia amurensis community had the greatest succession index of 67.5, followed by Abies holophylla-Fraxinus mandshurica community with 67.4. Juglans mandshurica-Cornus controversa community was recorded the smallest value of 60.5. The succession index of overstory tended to increase considerably at the stage of steady state for all community types except Quercus mongolica-Tilia amurensis community. However, The index of midstory hardly varied as the forest succession would progress for all community types. The succession index was negatively correlated to wind-water dispersion type of life form and positively to animal dispersion type at the 5% probability level. On the other hand, the index was not significantly correlated to the species richness and Shannon's species diversity index.
