Purpose : The purpose of this study was to develop a system for the measurement and simulation of the TMJ movement and to analyze the mandibular movement quantitatively. Materials and Methods : We devised patient-specific splints and a registration body for the TMJ movement tracking. The mandibular movements of the 12 subjects with facial deformity and 3 controls were obtained by using an optical tracking system and the patient-specific splints. The mandibular part was manually segmented from the CT volume data of a patient. Three-dimensional surface models of the maxilla and the mandible were constructed using the segmented data. The continuous movement of the mandible with respect to the maxilla could be simulated by applying the recorded positions sequentially. Trajectories of the selected reference points were calculated during simulation and analyzed. Results : The selected points were the most superior point of bilateral condyle, lower incisor point, and pogonion. There were significant differences (P<0.05) between control group and pre-surgical group in the maximum displacement of left superior condyle, lower incisor, and pogonion in vertical direction. Differences in the maximum lengths of the right and the left condyle were 0.59${\pm}$0.30 mm in pre-surgical group and 2.69${\pm}$2.63 mm in control group, which showed a significant difference (P<0.005). The maximum of differences between lengths of the right and the left calculated during one cycle also showed a significant difference between two groups (P<0.05). Conclusion : Significant differences in mandibular movements between the groups implies that facial deformity have an effect on the movement asymmetry of the mandible. Intraoral Vertical Ramus Osteotomy, along with Sagittal Split Ramus Osteotomy,is an popular surgical technique performed on mandibular prognathism. However Intraoral Vertical Ramus Osteotomy has been suspected for an initial mobilization at the healing phase of segment because it does not employ the rigid fixation between segments. To execute a study on the healing phase of segment after Intraoral Vertical Ramus Osteotomy on the horizontal plane, 102 patients (204 parts) who were diagnosed mandibular prognathism and took Intraoral Vertical Ramus Osteotomy at the Yonsei University dental hospital were observed during the period of before operation, immediately postoperation, 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, and 12 months. The change in the width of segment and horizontal angle of proximal segment and condylar head on the Submentovertex Cephalogram taken from those patients represented following results. 1. The width of proximal and distal segment decreased with the lapse of time. It decreased into 84.5% between immediate postoperative and 6M and even continued to decrease till 12M. 2. The horizontal angle of the proximal segment did medial rotation according as the lapse of time and rigorously continued till 3M. The rotation angle of condylar head indicated its tendency of recurrence to the original position but the entire recurrence was not allowed. The bigger an initial angle was, the higher was the tendency of recurrence after the operation while the rotation angle remained still bigger. 3. After grouping into group 1, group 2,and group 3 based on the extent of the variation of rotation angle of condylar head at immediate postoperative, the variation of rotation angle was measures in each group. The result presented that the initial rotation angle of condylar head had correlation with that of proximal segment but had no relation with the extent of setback of the mandible. However a quantitative analysis alone is not a sufficient method for analyzing the healing phase of segment on the horizontal plane. Therefore a multilateral analysis using 3 dimensional data such as CT is recommendable for the future study.
Background: It is well-known that cell-free nucleic acids rise in patients with many types of malignancies. Several recent experimental studies using cancer cell lines have shown that changes in cell-free RNA are predictive of the response to chemotherapy. The objective of this study was to determine whether quantification of free RNA can be used as a biomarker for clinical responses to chemotherapy in patients with lung cancer. Methods: Thirty-two patients with lung cancer (non-small cell lung cancer, n=24; small cell lung cancer, n=8) were divided into 2 groups according to their responses to chemotherapy (response group, n=19; non-response group, n=13). Blood samples were collected before and after two cycles of chemotherapy. Real-time quantitative RT-PCR was used for transcript quantification of the glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase gene. Results: The pre chemotherapy values (Response group $41.36{\pm}1.72$ vs. Non-response group $41.33{\pm}1.54$, p=0.78) and post chemotherapy values (Response group $39.92{\pm}1.81$ vs. Non-response group $40.41{\pm}1.47$, p=0.40) for cell free RNA concentrations, expressed as Ct GAPDH (threshold cycle glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase gene) levels, was not different between the two groups. There was no significant relationship between changes in the cell free RNA level clinical responses after chemotherapy (p=0.43). Conclusion: We did not find a correlation between quantification of serum cell free RNA levels and clinical responses to chemotherapy in patients with lung cancer. Further investigations are needed to determine whether the cell free RNA level is a useful predictor of responses to chemotherapy in patients with lung cancer.

Purpose: Endoscopic transnasal correction of the blowout fractures has many advantages over other techniques. But after removal of packing material, there were some patients with recurrence of preoperative symptoms. Authors tried to make a quantitative anterograde analysis of orbital volume change over whole perioperative period which might be related with recurrence of preoperative symptoms. Methods: 10 patients with pure medial wall fracture(Group I) and 10 patients with medial wall fracture combined with fracture of orbital floor(Group II) were selected to evaluate the final orbital volume change, who took 3 CT scans, pre-, postoperative and 4 months after packing removal. By multiplying cross - section area of orbit in coronal view with section thickness, orbital volume were calculated. Then, mean orbital volume increment after trauma, mean orbital volume decrement after endoscopic correction and volume increment after packing removal were found out. And we tried to find correlations between type of fracture, initial correction rate and final correction rate. Results: The mean orbital volume increment of the fractured orbits were 7.23% in group I and 13.69% in group II. After endoscopic surgery, mean orbital volume decrement were 11.0% in group I and 12.46% in group II. Mean volume increment after packing removal showed 3.10% in group I and 6.50% in group II. The initial correction rate(%) showed linear correlation with final correction rate(%) after packing removal. And there were negative linear correlation between increment percentage of orbital volume by fracture and final correction rate(%). Conclusion: Orbital volume was proved to be increasing after removal of packing or foley catheter and it was dependent upon type of fracture. Overcorrection should be done to improve the final result of orbital blowout fracture especially when there are severe fracture is present.

Honeycombs are dense structures that small cysts, which generally have about 2~10 mm in diameter, are surrounded by the wall of fibrosis. When honeycomb is found in the patients, the incidence of acute exacerbation is generally very high. Thus, the observation and quantitative measurement of honeycomb are considered as a significant marker for clinical diagnosis. In this point of view, we propose an automatic segmentation method using morphological image processing and assessment of the degree of clustering techniques. Firstly, image noises were removed by the Gaussian filtering and then a morphological dilation method was applied to segment lung regions. Secondly, honeycomb cyst candidates were detected through the 8-neighborhood pixel exploration, and then non-cyst regions were removed using the region growing method and wall pattern testing. Lastly, final honeycomb regions were segmented through the extraction of dense regions which are consisted of two or more cysts using cluster analysis. The proposed method applied to 80 High resolution computed tomography (HRCT) images and achieved a sensitivity of 89.4% and PPV (Positive Predictive Value) of 72.2%.

Most of the recent AI researches has focused on developing AI models. However, recently, artificial intelligence research has gradually changed from model-centric to data-centric, and the importance of learning data is getting a lot of attention based on this trend. However, it takes a lot of time and effort because the preparation of learning data takes up a significant part of the entire process, and the generation of labeling data also differs depending on the purpose of development. Therefore, it is need to develop a tool with various labeling functions to solve the existing unmetneeds. In this paper, we describe a labeling system for creating precise and fast labeling data of medical images. To implement this, a semi-automatic method using Back Projection, Grabcut techniques and an automatic method predicted through a machine learning model were implemented. We not only showed the advantage of running time for the generation of labeling data of the proposed system, but also showed superiority through comparative evaluation of accuracy. In addition, by analyzing the image data set of about 1,000 patients, meaningful diagnostic indexes were presented for men and women in the diagnosis of sarcopenia.
PET is used effectively for biochemical or pathological phenomena, disease diagnosis, prognosis determination after treatment, and treatment planning because it can quantify physiological indicators in the human body by imaging the distribution of various biochemical substances. However, since respiratory motion artifacts may occur due to the movement of the diaphragm due to breathing, we would like to evaluate the practical effect by using the a device-less data-driven gated (DDG) technique called MotionFree with the phase-based gating correction method called Q.static scan mode. In this study, images of changes in moving distance (0 cm, 1 cm, 2 cm, 3 cm) are acquired using a breathing-simulated moving phantom. The diameters of the six spheres in the phantom are 10 mm, 13 mm, 17 mm, 22 mm, 28 mm, and 37 mm, respectively. According to maximum standardized uptake value (SUVmax) measurements, when DDG was applied based on the moving distance, the average SUVmax of the correction effect by the moving distance was improved by 1.92, 2.48, 3.23 and 3.00, respectively. When DDG was applied based on the diameter of the phantom spheres, the average SUVmax of the correction effect by the moving distance was improved by 2.37, 2.02, 1.44, 1.20, 0.42 and 0.52 respectively.

Objective: The objective of this study was to identify polymorphism in olfactomedin like 3 (OLFML3) gene, and association analysis with meat quality, carcass characteristics, retail meat cut, and fatty acid composition in sheep, and expression quantification of OLFML3 gene in phenotypically divergent sheep. Methods: A total of 328 rams at the age of 10 to 12 months with an average body weight of 26.13 kg were used. A novel polymorphism was identified using high-throughput sequencing in sheep and genotyping of OLFML3 polymorphism was performed using polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP). Among 328 rams, 100 rams representing various sheep genotypes were used for association study and proc general linear model was used to analyse association between genotypes and phenotypic traits. Quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) was used for the expression analysis of OLFML3 mRNA in phenotypically divergent sheep population. Results: The findings revealed a novel polymorphism in the OLFML3 gene (g.90317673 C>T). The OLFML3 gene revealed three genotypes: CC, CT, and TT. The single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) was found to be significantly (p<0.05) associated with meat quality traits such as tenderness and cooking loss; carcass characteristics such as carcass length; retail meat cut such as pelvic fat in leg, intramuscular fat in loin and tenderloin, muscle in flank and shank; fatty acids composition such as tridecanoic acid (C13:0), palmitoleic acid (C16:1), heptadecanoic acid (C17:0), ginkgolic acid (C17:1), linolenic acid (C18:3n3), arachidic acid (C20:0), eicosenoic acid (C20:1), arachidonic acid (C20:4n6), heneicosylic acid (C21:0), and nervonic acid (C24:1). The TT genotype was associated with higher level of meat quality, carcass characteristics, retail meat cut, and some fatty acids composition. However, the mRNA expression analysis was not different among genotypes. Conclusion: The OLFML3 gene could be a potential putative candidate for selecting higher quality sheep meat, carcass characteristics, retail meat cuts, and fatty acid composition in sheep.

Purpose To assess the usefulness of various metal artifact reduction (MAR) methods in patients with hip prostheses. Materials and Methods This retrospective study included 47 consecutive patients who underwent hip arthroplasty and dual-energy CT. Conventional polyenergetic image (CI), orthopedic-MAR (OMAR), and virtual monoenergetic image (VMI, 50-200 keV) were tested for MAR. Quantitative analysis was performed in seven regions around the prostheses. Qualitative assessments included evaluation of the degree of artifacts and the presence of secondary artifacts. Results The lowest amount of image noise was observed in the O-MAR, followed by the VMI. O-MAR also showed the lowest artifact index, followed by high-keV VMI in the range of 120-200 keV (soft tissue) or 200 keV (bone). O-MAR had the highest contrast-to-noise ratio (CNR) in regions with severe hypodense artifacts, while VMI had the highest CNR in other regions, including the periprosthetic bone. On assessment of the CI of pelvic soft tissues, VMI showed a higher structural similarity than O-MAR. Upon qualitative analysis, metal artifacts were significantly reduced in O-MAR, followed by that in VMI, while secondary artifacts were the most frequently found in the O-MAR (p < 0.001). Conclusion O-MAR is the best technique for severe MAR, but it can generate secondary artifacts. VMI at high keV can be advantageous for evaluating periprosthetic bone.

Purpose: Quantitative comparative evaluation of the difference in eye lens absorbed dose when measured by MVCT and kV-CBCT, though such a dose was not included in the original IMRT treatment plan for the nasopharyngeal cancer patient. Materials and Methods: We used CT (Lightspeed Ultra 16, General Electric, USA) against an Anderson rando phantom (Alderson Research Laboratories Inc, USA) and established the plan for tomotherapy treatment (Tomotherapy, Inc, USA) and linear accelerator treatment (Pinnacle 8.0, Philips Medicle System) for the achieved CT images on the same condition with the nasopharyngeal cancer patient treatment plan. Then, align the ther-moluminescence dosimeter (TLD100 Harshaw, USA) with the eye lens, shot the lens with Tomotherapy MVCT under 3 conditions (Fine, Normal, and Coarse), and shot both lenses with kV-CBCT under 2 conditions (Low Dose Head and Standard Dose Head) 3 times each. Results: When we analyzed the eye lens absorbed dose according to MVCT and kV-CBCT images by using both Tomotherapy and Pinacle 8.0, we achieved the following result; According to Tomotherapy MVCT, RT 0.8257 cGy in the Coarse mode, LT 0.8137 cGy, RT 1.089 cGy and LT 1.188 cGy in the Normal mode, and RT 2.154 cGy and LT 2.082 cGy in the Fine mode. According to Pinacle 8.0 kV-CBCT, RT 0.2875 cGy and LT 0.1676 cGy in the Standard Dose mode and RT 0.1648 cGy and LT 0.1212 cGy in the Low-Dose mode. In short, the MVCT result was significantly different from that of kV-CBCT, up to 20 times. Conclusion: We think kV-CBCT is more effective for reducing the amount of radiation which a patient is receiving during intensity modulated radiation treatment for other purposes than treatment than MVCT, when we consider the absorbed dose only from the viewpoint of image-guided radiation therapy. Besides, we understood the amount of radiation is too sensitive to the shooting condition, even when we use the same equipment.
