컴퓨터 단층 촬영 영상에서의 전이성 척추 종양의 정량적 분류를 위한 라디오믹스 기반의 머신러닝 기법 (Radiomics-based Machine Learning Approach for Quantitative Classification of Spinal Metastases in Computed Tomography)

  • Currently, the naked eyes-based diagnosis of bone metastases on CT images relies on qualitative assessment. For this reason, there is a great need for a state-of-the-art approach that can assess and follow-up the bone metastases with quantitative biomarker. Radiomics can be used as a biomarker for objective lesion assessment by extracting quantitative numerical values from digital medical images. In this study, therefore, we evaluated the clinical applicability of non-invasive and objective bone metastases computer-aided diagnosis using radiomics-based biomarkers in CT. We employed a total of 21 approaches consist of three-classifiers and seven-feature selection methods to predict bone metastases and select biomarkers. We extracted three-dimensional features from the CT that three groups consisted of osteoblastic, osteolytic, and normal-healthy vertebral bodies. For evaluation, we compared the prediction results of the classifiers with the medical staff's diagnosis results. As a result of the three-class-classification performance evaluation, we demonstrated that the combination of the random forest classifier and the sequential backward selection feature selection approach reached AUC of 0.74 on average. Moreover, we confirmed that 90-percentile, kurtosis, and energy were the features that contributed high in the classification of bone metastases in this approach. We expect that selected quantitative features will be helpful as biomarkers in improving the patient's survival and quality of life.

Tumbling Dynamics of Rod-like and Semi-flexible Polymers in Simple Shear and Mixed Flows

  • In this work, we focus on the tumbling dynamics of rod-like and semi-flexible polymers in mixed flows, which vary from simple shear to pure rotation. By employing a bead-rod model, the tumbling pathways and periods are examined with a focus on the angular distribution of their orientation. Under the mixed flows, the tumbling dynamics agreed well with earlier studies and confirmed the predicted scaling laws. We found that the angular distribution deviates from that of shear flow as the flow type approaches pure rotation. Finally, we investigated the angular distribution of $\lambda$-DNA in a shear flow and found that the present numerical simulations were in quantitative agreement with the previous experimental data.

소각설비에 대한 확률론적 환경위험성 평가 적용 (An Application of Probabilistic Environmental Risk Assessment for An Incineration Facility)

  • A wide spectrum of risk assessments including qualitative and quantitative approaches and the analyses of its consequence were performed for an environmentally sensitive object such as incineration facility. To find out the major risk concerns, HAZOP(Hazard and Operability) were performed. Then, the frequency of hazardous gas release scenarios was calculated. Finally consequence analyses were performed for the gas release scenarios. On the basis of analyses through evaluation, a more innovative way for making a better control system or the enhancement of operation procedure was given. The results from these analyses would act as a substantial benefits for the incineration facility operator, and giving some measured information for the neighbors and the people involved.

  • The first attempt in architectural design theory to consider the perceptual and metaphysical dimension separately with a fully modern scientific manner, which exist in contrast to the Renaissance idea, was Claude Perrault, who emphasized the cognitive factors as an important scientific human issue in building design in 1683 in his book "Ordonnance". Even today many elaborated works to reveal the mysterious design processes based on a set of rational approaches have been introduced since the Design Method movement in 1960's. Their pioneering and challenging efforts to rationalize design process have been mostly rely on the cultural issues whether it takes a qualitative or quantitative stance. On the other hand, however, today's computer generated free form architecture seems not to be aware of those lessons learned from the past and, therefore, this study conducted an extensive research through exploring on morphological building forms with cultural issues to fill up the missing and/or lacking characteristics of today trend in building design.

  • Purpose: This paper aims to evaluate the quality of Small & Medium Enterprises(SMEs) Survey and to provide some desirable directions and improvements for the future SMEs Survey, conducted by the Government. Methods: The diagnosis were performed by employing the quantitative and qualitative approaches with the official guideline provided by the Ministry of Statistics. Results: Results show that follow-up management are evaluated relatively low in specific processes, and timeliness are evaluated relatively lower than accuracy, accessibility, relevance, comparability and consistency in statistical qualities. Conclusion: we propose the alternatives which enhance the quality level of SMEs by using the 6 tools of Quality Management for Statistics.

변동성지수와 관리도를 이용한 KOSPI200 지수선물 투자전략 (Investment Strategies for KOSPI200 Index Futures Using VKOSPI and Control Chart)

  • This paper proposes quantitative investment strategies for KOSPI200 index futures using VKOSPI and control chart. Stochastic control chart is employed to decide when to take a position as well as what position out of long and short should be taken by monitoring whether VKOSPI or difference of VKOSPI touches the control limit lines. The strategies include 4 approaches, which are traditional control chart and 2-Area control chart coupled with VKOSPI and its difference, respectively. Computational experiments using real KOSPI200 futures index for recent 3 years are conducted to show the excellence of the proposed investment strategies under control chart framework.

삶의 공간으로서의 웹 사이트에 대한 평가 체계 (A Comprehensive Evaluation Framework of Web Sites as Living Places in Cyber Space)

  • With a swift development of information technology, web sites get more important roles as user's living places. This quantitative and qualitative expansion of web sites requires the need for an evaluation framework of web sites from comprehensive perspectives. This study proposes two dimensions for web site categorization and three dimensions for web site evaluation. These dimensions were developed based on the architectural perspectives that have been used to evaluate buildings in the real world for more than a thousand years. First, in order to categorize various web sites, we extracted two dimensions, user's goals and user's behaviors from behavioral architect which approaches user's behaviors in designing buildings. Second, in order to evaluate four web sites groups, we suggested three dimensions, which are firmness, commodity, delight used in evaluating buildings in the real world. Then for each of the four different web sites groups an empirical survey was conducted to verify these three dimensions of architectural metrics. This ends with study implications and limitations.

  • Recent progress in the development of non-invasive imaging technologies continues to strengthen the role of molecular imaging biological research. These tools have been validated recently in variety of research models, and have been shown to provide continuous quantitative monitoring of the location(s), magnitude, and time-variation of gene delivery and/or expression. This article reviews the use of radionuclide, magnetic resonance, and optical imaging technologies as they have been used in imaging gene delivery and gene expression for molecular imaging applications. The studies published to date demonstrate that noninvasive imaging tools will help to accelerate pre-clinical model validation as well as allow for clinical monitoring of human diseases.

New Approaches for IT Human Resource Development: Korean Cases and the Applicability to Other Countries

  • This article aims to examine the achievement and limitation of adaptation of supply chain management (SCM) to IT human resource development (HRD) in Korea and to derive the implication of the Korean experience to other countries. In late 1990s, the IT New Deal Policy and the quantitative expansion of IT HR were introduced. Since mid-2000s, there has been much innovation in IT products as well as increased demand of highly qualified IT experts. The SCM in IT HRD was introduced in 2004 and continuously developed more. Since the late 2000s, IT convergence expanded to traditional industries and the new IT-based-industries were created in Korea. In this regard, Korea established the Seoul Accord as an international IT engineering education accreditation system in 2008. In response to the paradigm change, in 2011, the Korean government developed TOPCIT, which is a kind of competency test for evaluating IT competency.

  • This study was intended to point out the limit of existing digital content-centered studies, or approaches from the viewpoint of the supplier and in the aspect of business profit model and find ways to assess the quality of digital content, considering the characteristics of digital content. For this, the study is to apply value innovation strategy to digital content assessment, to analyze the applicability, and to propose a new and practical framework for digital content assessment method. To this end, this study selected the global No. 1 search service provider Google and local portal site Naver search service. The study on assessment factors by value innovation strategy was based on existing literature, while user-value elements in that respect were confined to information quality, interactivity, communication, interactive storytelling, and usability. This study objectified the relation with the value innovation strategic analysis, through qualitative and quantitative analyses on value elements of search service users.
