  • Existing buffer management schemes for shared-memory output queueing switches can be classified into two types: In the first type, some constant amount of memory space is guaranteed to each virtual queue using static queue thresholds. The static threshold method (ST) belongs to this type. On the other hand, the second type of approach tries to maximize the buffer utilization in 머 locating buffer memories. The complete sharing (CS) method is classified into this type. In the case of CS, it is very hard to protect regular traffic from mis-behaving traffic flows while in the case of ST the thresholds can not be adjusted according to varying traffic conditions. In this paper, we propose a new buffer management method called weighted dynamic thresholds (WDT) which can process packet flows based on loss priorities for quality-of-service (QoS) functionalities with fairly high memory utilization factors. We verified the performance of the proposed scheme through computer simulations.

  • In tactical environment, tactical wireless networks are generally comprised of Tactical MANETs(T-MANETs) or Tactical WMNs(T-WMNs). The most important services in tactical network are voice and low rate data such as command control and situation awareness. These data should be forwarded via multi-hop in tactical wireless networks. Urgent and mission-critical data should be protected in this environment, so QoS(Quality of Service) must be guaranteed for specific type of traffic for satisfying the requirement of a user. In IEEE 802.11s, TDMA-based MAC protocol, MCCA(MCF Controlled Channel Access), has a function of resource reservation. But 802.11s protocol can not guarantee the end-to-end QoS, because it only supports reservation with neighbors. In this paper, we propose the routing protocol, R-HWMP(Reservation-based HWMP) which has the resource reservation to support the end-to-end QoS. The proposed protocol can reserve the channel slots and find optimal path in T-WMNs. We analyzed the performance of the proposed protocol and showed that end-to-end QoS is guaranteed using NS-2 simulation.

  • This paper strives to shed a light on open access journals as academic resources for libraries and repositories. It also seeks the measure for the evaluation of information resources. It first attempts to draw outcomes and suggestions on the basis of the issues and implications identified through analysis into aspects of management, service, and infrastructure of repositories. For this task, research methods such as interviews and on/offline literature review were employed. Specific projects were analyzed via literature and website review, although not detailed in nature. Next, the paper discusses issue such as the current quality measures of OAJ. For this, a thorough comparison on the background, outlines and characteristics of the projects and an analysis of the specifics of each project were conducted as well.

  • In a distributed system environment, such as a cloud database, the tail latency needs to be kept short to ensure uniform quality of service. In this paper, through experiments on a Cassandra database, we show that long tail latency is caused by a lack of memory space because the database cannot receive any request until free space is reclaimed by writing the buffered data to the storage device. We observed that, since the performance of the storage device determines the amount of time required for writing the buffered data, the performance degradation of Solid State Drive (SSD) due to garbage collection results in a longer tail latency. We propose a garbage collection synchronization technique, called SyncGC, that simultaneously performs garbage collection in the java virtual machine and in the garbage collection in SSD concurrently, thus hiding garbage collection overheads in the SSD. Our evaluations on real SSDs show that SyncGC reduces the tail latency of $99.9^{th}$ and, $99.9^{th}-percentile$ by 31% and 36%, respectively.

  • The explosive growth of wireless network users and the existence of various wireless services have demanded high rate throughput as well as user's QoS guarantees. Towards this, this paper proposes QoS-oriented subcarrier allocation scheme considering the QoS provisioning of multiple users, which is major requirement for wireless network design point of view. This paper introduces joint RR/K&H combined with M-LWDF(Modified Largest Weighted Delay First) scheme throughout observing statistical channel behavior and real time queuing analysis for appropriate resource allocation tightly connected to multiuser scheduling. Accordingly, the system throughput can be enhanced, and the QoS demanded for delay sensitive services can be satisfied. Furthermore, the proposed scheme is applied for OFDMA(Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access) systems to allocate sub-carriers in optimal way. The simulation results verify plausible performances of proposed resource allocation scheme via showing superior effective capacity under time-varying physical-layer channel behaviors.

  • The mobile station which is about to do handover in IEEE 802.16e networks scans its neighboring base station channels to decide its next target base station. However, due to the lack of location information of its subscribers, the serving base station cannot provide any reliable candidate channel which is actually attachable by the scanning mobile stations, which makes the mobile station suffer from the long scanning time. Sometimes, long scanning time may cause the degradation of quality of service due to repeatable scan-duration or failure to start the handover procedure in time. To overcome these problems, in this paper, we propose a new protocol so called fast group scanning scheme, in which multiple mobile stations form a group to scan their neighboring base station channels simultaneously. Main contribution of this proposal is to find and decide a reliable target base station within a short scanning time. The fast group scanning scheme can be deployed to the cell network of the serving base station with a dynamic neighboring base station list management.

  • In this paper, we propose and analyze two adaptive channel allocation schemes for supporting multimedia traffics in hierarchical cellular systems. It is guaranteed to satisfy the required quality of service of multimedia traffics according to their characteristics such as a mobile velocity for voice calls and a delay tolerance for multimedia calls. In the scheme 1, only slow-speed voice calls are allowed to overflow from macrocell to microcell and only adaptive multimedia calls can overflow from microcell to macrocell after reducing its bandwidth to the minimum channel bandwidth. In the scheme II, in addition to the first scheme, non-adaptive multimedia calls can occupy the required channel bandwidth through reducing the channel bandwidth of adaptive multimedia calls. The proposed scheme I is analyzed using 2-dimensional Markov model. Through computer simulations, the analysis model and the proposed schemes are compared with the fixed system and two previous studies. In the simulation result, it is shown that the proposed schemes yield a significant improvement in terms of the forced termination probability of handoff calls and the efficiency of channel usage.

  • In the Internet environment in which best-effort services are provided, we need to guarantee end-to-end performance rather than hop performance to provide services with a variety of QoS(Quality of Service) requirements. The end-to-end performance is affected by many factors along the path of traffic flow. Most existing simulation studies are concentrated on a single node or a few nodes. We need much different approach considering the simulation execution time to simulate a large-scale network. In this paper, we derive requirements and present methodologies for the implementation of the simulator to simulate it. Then, we design and implement our simulator using OPNET. Performance evaluation is carried out using the simulator for large-scale KII (National Information Infrastructure in Korea). We use a self-similar traffic model and present some results on the end-to-end performance metric for the networks.

  • In this paper we propose a scheduling algorithm for supporting Quality of Service(QoS) in IEEE 802.11e HCCA referred to as ASR-DRR and ASD-DRR, which aims at providing improved performance for the support of multimedia traffic. Although We identify the problem of the current IEEE 802.11e HCCA (Hybrid Coordination Function Controlled Channel Access) scheduler and its numerous variations, that the queue information cannot be notified to the Hybrid Coordinator (HC) timely, therefore the uplink delay lengthens unnecessarily. We suggests a simple solution and a couple of implementation practices, namely the Adaptive Scheduler with RTS/CTS (ASR) and Adaptive Scheduler with Data/Ack (ASD). They are both further elaborated to emulate the Deficit Round Robin (DRR) scheduler. They are also compared with existing exemplary schedulers through simulation, and shown to perform well.
