  • National park, as a natural park, has a dual purpose, to promote both protection and enjoyment. The educational activities of the national park can be partly understood as one of the appropriate means to balance its double purposes. This study provides a review of environmental education in the US National Parks according to social transition. Taking historical perspective and case studies, environmental education has played roles in helping the balance between preservation and enjoyment. Since the environmental movement, environmental education goals, particularly understanding the natural processes observable at national parks, has become more a part of the interpretation and education missions of the parks. Also non-governmental and non-profit partners have played important educational-based roles in support of both the National Parks Service and environmental education goals. The two different models also differ in the public's perception of them. Federal employees are resented in some rural areas in the U.S., but the general population automatically attributes authority, friendliness, and national-interestedness to NPS Rangers. This may in turn limit how strongly such staff could serve as strong advocates for the environment. On the other hand, the non-profit may be seen by some as strongly liberally biased and associated with urban wealth. It is also not as universally recognized as the NPS. It can, however, go far to develop new partnerships and undertake public relations. Non-profits vary greatly in quality, also affecting public perception.

  • This study was conducted to suggest a management plan for legally protected trees in Gwangju, Gyeonggi-do by examining their distribution and growth. A literature review and field survey of these trees were conducted to derive problems and usage plans, with a number of key results. Among the legally protected trees (77 species in total) in 74 locations within Gwangju, Gyeonggi-do, the growth status of 74 species (96.10%) was above average, indicating that most legally protected trees were growing without any issues. Despite the results, analysis of the function of these legally protected trees indicated that there was low diversity and utilization of these trees as only trees in 33.77% were used as resting places or pavilions while those in 66.23% were used for landscaping or other purposes. It was assumed that these legally protected trees and the areas surrounding them in Gwangju, Gyeonggi-do will be used as community spaces if the environment is improved. This includes converting these areas into small parks or resting places for residents. In addition, further research should be carried out to maintain good growth conditions for these legally protected trees in general and to explore various plans that allow utilization of the surrounding natural ecosystem, human environment, and cultural elements in order to enhance the quality of the region and improve it as a living space for residents.

  • In order to design storage-based non-point source management facilities, the aspect of statistical features of the entire precipitation time series should be considered since non-point source pollutions are delivered by continuous rainfall runoffs. The 3-parameter mixed exponential probability density function instead of traditional single-parameter exponential probability density function is applied to represent the probabilistic features of long-term precipitation time series and model urban stormwater runoff. Finally, probability density functions of water quality control basin overflow are derived under two extreme intial conditions. The 31-year continuous precipitation time series recorded in Busan are analyzed to show that the 3-parameter mixed exponential probability density function gives better resolution.

  • The quality of vibration pattern reproduction of elastic structures by the modal expansion method is influenced by the modal expansion method and the sensor placement as well as the accuracy of measured natural modes and the total number of vibration sensors. In this context, this paper presents an improved numerical method for reproducing the vibration patterns by introducing a block-wise modal expansion method (BMEM), together with the genetic algorithm (GA). For a given number of vibration sensors, the sensor positions are determined by an evolutionary optimization using GA and the modal assurance criterion (MAC). Meanwhile, for the proposed block-wise modal expansion, a whole frequency range of interest is divided into several overlapped frequency blocks and the vibration field reproduction is made block by block with different natural modes and different modal participation factors. A hollow cylindrical tank is taken to illustrate the proposed improved modal expansion method. Through the numerical experiments, the proposed method is compared with several conventional methods to justify that the proposed method provides the improved results.

  • The population hasincreases in urban increase geometrically, and then many problemsoccur in society anomity, environmental pollution, exhaustion of recourses, So we have to consider the quality of our life. Eco-village is the alternative the village's principle to consider the human life. Eco-village refers to the application to ecological principles to the development of human ecosystem in order to achieve sustainability. Since a few yearsm, in Korea, ecovillages have built for alternative society and developed local society. The expert and residents live ecovillages just consider the physical system or the social system. However, Ecovilliges must have not only unique physical, social aspects, but also the scenic aspects, especially, in the villages for eco-tourism. The paper examines what images are recognized by the people as ecovillages, and what difference betweenr they understand the functions and meaning each image or not. Through the result, this paper explores the important and necessity of the scenic landscape plan in ecovillages.

  • Multimedia computing has attracted considerable attention with the rapid growth in the development and application of multimedia technology. Current studies have attempted to support the increasing resource consumption and computational overhead caused by multimedia computing. In this paper, we propose $MediaCloud$, a new multimedia computing paradigm that integrates the concept of cloud computing in handling multimedia applications and services effectively and efficiently. $MediaCloud$ faces the following key challenges: heterogeneity, scalability, and multimedia Quality of Service (QoS) provisioning. To address the challenges above, first, a layered architecture of $MediaCloud$, which can provide scalable multimedia services, is presented. Then, $MediaCloud$ technologies by which users can access multimedia services from different terminals anytime and anywhere with QoS provisioning are introduced. Finally, $MediaCloud$ implementation and applications are presented, and media retrieval and delivery are adopted as case studies to demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed $MediaCloud$ design.

  • Execution of the finish work for high-rise residential construction occurs when a mixture of work progresses simultaneously at each floor or sector and is carried on by highly-specialized subcontractor teams. Therefore, the finish work plan requires an effective scheduling method that interfaces between the work and the teams. In order to address these issues, the TACT technique is utilized in Korea. This technique is based on Line-of-Balance and Lean construction. However, according to recent case studies, finish work using TACT technique was frequently delayed with cost overruns because the work was performed without a detailed schedule control plan outlining the relationship between architecture and mechanical, electrical, and plumbing work. This paper describes the enhanced-TACT technique which provides a detailed work flow chart and TACT work template. With improved TACT technique, this paper will contribute to improved cash flow and reduced cycle time and provide quality improvement through work continuity.

  • Researches on air-ground robot cooperating system has been made recently. The cooperation among homogeneous robots focused on the architecture of the system, quality and influence of the communication. In contrast, the cooperation among heterogeneous robots such as aerial vehicle and ground vehicle robots has not been much handled. There are a couple of main points for those air-ground cooperating robots. One is using UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) as an extra sensor of UGV (Unmanned Ground Vehicle). This kind of application is usually used in situations such as guiding UGV to an appropriate path which could be better determined from the eye in the sky as UAV. The other main application of air-ground cooperating robot system is the localization. By combining sensor information from both UAV and UGV, the robot system as a whole can localize a target object or find features in the environment with better performance than UGV or UAV alone. Although these applications are recently studied in many different ways and devices, there are still a lot of possibilities in the field of air-ground cooperating robot systems. We introduce those research fields in this paper.

  • In this study, a segmented model with Upside-Down bathtub shaped failure intensity for a repairable system are proposed under the assumption that the occurrences of the failures of a repairable system follow the Non-Homogeneous Poisson Process. The proposed segmented model is the compound model of S-PLP and LIP (Segmented Power Law Process and Logistic Intensity Process), that fits the separate failure intensity functions on each segment of time interval. The maximum likelihood estimation is used for estimating the parameters of the S-PLP and LIP model. The case study of system A shows that the S-PLP and LIP model fits better than the other models when compared by AICc (Akaike Information Criterion corrected) and MSE (Mean Squared Error). And it also implies that the S-PLP and LIP model can be useful for explaining the failure intensities of similar systems.
