  • The inspections that are being done on current bridges in our country are made to go through a process of being recorded on the management system and then converted by the computer. This has deteriorated the credibility of manual-analog types of data, inefficient care of information, and produced potential problems of the structures of bridges through subjective evaluations. In order to solve these troubles, this research has aimed at effectiveness, management, and convenience so that the inspector at the actual scene of the bridge structures will be able to achieve the primary purpose of infrastructure safety through precise supervision. To assist this, this study has suggested a state of the art IT intellectual management system that has applied RFID. This system has been designed to decrease the inspecting time on the actual scene, which will provide more time for efficient inspection and by using the converted DB, managing and utilizing high quality data will come naturally and through the objective evaluation, it will be possible to make exact judgments of the structures of the bridge. Also, regardless of the location, it has been found that the work performance was excellent through highly effective management.

  • For missile systems, sustaining high reliability and ensuring economical maintenance are very important. In the Republic of Korea, for most missiles, periodic inspection is mandatory for missiles in the field. Every fixed number of years, they are returned to the ordnance depot to be tested and repaired if faults are found. Almost all missiles have a built-in test (BIT) capability. With the BIT, faulty missiles can be isolated anytime during operations or storage in the launchers. So the reliability and the maintenance costs of the missiles greatly depend on the length of the inspection cycle and the BIT/inspection quality. In this paper, we suggest a model for predicting the storage reliability of missiles subjected to non-periodic tests and periodic inspections, excluding overlapping failures. Some numerical examples are given. This model will be useful for determining the length of the periodic inspection cycle.

  • Because fuses have many parts, human error can occur during visual inspections. This paper proposes an automatic ammunition test algorithm for preventing human error during an inspection. The automatic ammunition test algorithm consists of the following three steps. First, the image input and preprocessing step is where an inspection image is rotated using an image rotation algorithm and the image is converted to a binary image. Second, the inspection step of arming determines if the ammunition is armed using Masked Template Matching algorithm, etc. Third, the inspection step of the parts determines if the parts are omitted using an image searching algorithm, etc. The arming or parts omission of the fuse are detected efficiently using the ammunition automatic test algorithm. The ammunition automatic test algorithm is expected to help improve the safety and reliability of 40 mm grenade fuse.

  • Quality evaluation for food and agricultural products have always been one of the most elusive problems associated with the handling , processing and marketing in a food plant production. In order to detect physical foreign materials in food and agricultural products, non-destructive techniques have been developed for many years. Application of X-ray system to detect physical foreign materials in food and agricultural products could be considered to be a high potential method. Especially , it is impossible to detect internal physical foreign materials by visual inspections. In this study, it was tried to be applied for two different X-ray devices. Soft X-ray system with CdTe sensor and X-ray CT scanner were evaluated for advantage of the detection of non-meltallic foreign materials in food and agricultural products . Though the soft X-ray is not a high energy radiation, it is possible to detect small different density in a material. The CdTe sensor has a high resolution for t e soft X-ray energy region. The density characteristics of foods and foreign material were expressed region. The density characteristics of foods and foreign materials were expressed as a soft X-ray energy spectrum. The energy spectrum was analyzed by a personal computer with a multi-channel analyzer. X-ray CT scanner can provide visual image and analyze by three dimensional information inside food and agricultural products. • In the past, the risk of fire and the rate of fire occurrence has increased gradually as the quality of life improved due to rapid economic growth, and the government enacted Fire Prevention Act. The existing inspection method was revised considering the rapid increase in the number of fire-fighting objects(hereinafter referred to as specific fire-fighting objects) that require the installation of fire-fighting facilities, and has been applied to this day. On the other hand, unlike the rapid increase in specific fire-fighting objects and the development of fire prevention technologies, the scope of work and inspections by unsuitable inspectors caused a large fire accident, which required improvement of the related laws. This study evaluated, the Act on the relationship of firefighting facilities, which had been implemented previously to identify fire victims, save lives, secure independence of fire inspection agencies, and ensure the accuracy of fire prevention actions.

  • Structural health monitoring (SHM) plays an important role in ensuring the safety and functionality of critical civil infrastructure. In recent years, numerous researchers have conducted studies to develop computer vision and machine learning techniques for SHM purposes, offering the potential to reduce the laborious nature and improve the effectiveness of field inspections. However, high-quality vision data from various types of damaged structures is relatively difficult to obtain, because of the rare occurrence of damaged structures. The lack of data is particularly acute for fatigue crack in steel bridge girder. As a result, the lack of data for training purposes is one of the main issues that hinders wider application of these powerful techniques for SHM. To address this problem, the use of synthetic data is proposed in this article to augment real-world datasets used for training neural networks that can identify fatigue cracks in steel structures. First, random textures representing the surface of steel structures with fatigue cracks are created and mapped onto a 3D graphics model. Subsequently, this model is used to generate synthetic images for various lighting conditions and camera angles. A fully convolutional network is then trained for two cases: (1) using only real-word data, and (2) using both synthetic and real-word data. By employing synthetic data augmentation in the training process, the crack identification performance of the neural network for the test dataset is seen to improve from 35% to 40% and 49% to 62% for intersection over union (IoU) and precision, respectively, demonstrating the efficacy of the proposed approach.

  • The bow of the nuclear fuel assembly is a well-known phenomenon. One of the vital criteria during the history of nuclear fuel development has been fuel assembly's mechanical stability. Once present, the fuel assembly bow can lead to safety issues like excessive water gap and power redistribution or even incomplete rod insertion (IRI). The extensive bow can result in assembly handling and loading problems. This is why the fuel assembly's bow is one of the most often controlled geometrical factors during periodic fuel inspections for VVER when compared e.g. to on-site fuel rod gap measurements or other instrumental measurements performed on-site. Our proposed screening method uses existing video records for fuel inspection. We establish video frames normalization and aggregation for the purposes of bow measurement. The whole process is done by digital image processing algorithms which analyze rotations of video frames, extract angles whose source is the fuel set torsion, and reconstruct torsion schema. This approach provides results comparable to the commonly utilized method. We tested this new approach in real operation on 19 fuel assemblies with different campaign numbers and designs, where the average deviation from other methods was less than 2 % on average. Due to the fact, that the method has not yet been validated during full scale measurements of the fuel inspection, the preliminary results stand for that we recommend this method as a complementary part of standard bow measurement procedures to increase measurement robustness, lower time consumption and preserve or increase accuracy. After completed validation it is expected that the proposed method allows standalone fuel assembly bow measurements.
