  • We have evaluated the performances of the following six interpolation schemes used for win-dow deformation in particle image velocimetry (PIV): the linear, quadratic, B-spline, cubic, sinc, Lagrange interpolations. Artificially generated images comprised of particles of diameter in a range pixel were investigated. Three particle diameters were selected for detailed evaluation: pixel with a constant particle concentration $0.02particle/pixel^2$. Two flow patterns were considered: uniform and shear flows. The mean and random errors, and the computation times of the interpolation schemes were determined and compared.

  • In the present paper, the hydrodynamic characteristics of three dimensional hydrofoils moving with a constant speed below the free surface using a higher-order boundary element method based on 9-node Lagrangian curvilinear elements are investigated. A bi-quadratic spline scheme is employed to improve the numerical results on the free surface. To validate the present scheme, the calculated results are compared with the analytic solutions for a submerged sphere and a spheroid showing a good agreement. For the validation of the hydrofoil study, the computed lift and drag of a hydrofoil having $NACA64_{1}A412$ section with aspect ratio(A.R.) of 4 are compared with the experimental data by Wadlin et al.[28]. The comparison covers a number of variations of angle of attack and submergence depth. Then, using an A.R. hydrofoil with NACA0012 section, the free surface on the lift and drag are investigated and these are compared with the previous results. The wave elevations and patterns created by the aforementioned submerged bodies are also investigated with Froude numbers and submergences.

  • Objective: The aim of this study was to identify suitable polynomial regression for modeling the average growth trajectory and to estimate the relative development of the rib eye area, scrotal circumference, and morphometric measurements of Guzerat young bulls. Methods: A total of 45 recently weaned males, aged 325.8±28.0 days and weighing 219.9±38.05 kg, were evaluated. The animals were kept on Brachiaria brizantha pastures, received multiple supplementations, and were managed under uniform conditions for 294 days, with evaluations conducted every 56 days. The average growth trajectory was adjusted using ordinary polynomials, Legendre polynomials, and quadratic B-splines. The coefficient of determination, mean absolute deviation, mean square error, the value of the restricted likelihood function, Akaike information criteria, and consistent Akaike information criteria were applied to assess the quality of the fits. For the study of allometric growth, the power model was applied. Results: Ordinary polynomial and Legendre polynomial models of the fifth order provided the best fits. B-splines yielded the best fits in comparing models with the same number of parameters. Based on the restricted likelihood function, Akaike's information criterion, and consistent Akaike's information criterion, the B-splines model with six intervals described the growth trajectory of evaluated animals more smoothly and consistently. In the study of allometric growth, the evaluated traits exhibited negative heterogeneity (b<1) relative to the animals' weight (p<0.01), indicating the precocity of Guzerat cattle for weight gain on pasture. Conclusion: Complementary studies of growth trajectory and allometry can help identify when an animal's weight changes and thus assist in decision-making regarding management practices, nutritional requirements, and genetic selection strategies to optimize growth and animal performance.

  • Image signal can be damaged by a variety of noises during the signal processing, and multiple studies have been conducted to restore these signals. The representative noises to be added in the image are salt and pepper noise, additive white Gaussian noise(AWGN), and the composite noise which two noises are combined. Therefore, the algorithms were proposed to process with quadratic spline interpolation and median filter in case of salt and pepper noise with the central pixel of the local mask, and to process with weight filter by pixel changes in case of AWGN, upon noise determination to restore the damaged image in the composite noise environment, in this article.

  • As an effective means of remotely detecting the spectral information of the object, the spectral calibration for the Savart polarization interference imaging spectrometer (SPIIS) is a basis and prerequisite of information quantification, and its experimental calibration scheme is firstly proposed in this paper. In order to evaluate the accuracy of the spectral information acquisition, the linear interpolation, cubic spline interpolation, and piecewise cubic interpolation algorithms are adopted, and the precision of the quadratic polynomial fitting is the highest, whose fitting error is better than 5.8642 nm in the wavelength range of [500 nm, 820 nm]. Besides, the inversed value of the spectral resolution for the monochromatic light is greater than the theoretical value, and the deviation between them becomes larger with the wavelength increasing, which is mainly caused by the structural design of the SPIIS, together with the rationality of the spectral restoration algorithm and the selection of the maximum optical path difference (OPD). This work demonstrates that the SPIIS has achieved high performance assuring the feasibility of its practical use in various fields.

  • This study was performed to develope stem analysis program(Stemwin1.0) which can be used in PC with MS-Windows operating system. Stemwin1.0 uses width of annual tree ring measured with 1/100mm unit, and calculate increments of several growth factors such as DBH, height and volume with various methods. Mean DBH can be calculated by arithmetic and quadratic mean methods. Height can be estimated by parallel line, line extending and height curve methods. Volume can be estimated by Huber, Smalian, and Spline functions. Not only Total growth, Mean Annual Increment(MAI) and Current Annual Increment(CAI) of growth factors, but also merchantable volume and height, form factor, growth rate, and merchantable volume rate are automatically calculated. Stemwin1.0 can also output accurate stem taper curve with various scale, and prepare stem taper data(diameter at different disk heights) for statistical analysis for deriving stem taper model. Stemwin1.0 can export output data and graph to Excel for more compatible use of it.
