Objectives The purposes of this study was to develope a Qi gong exercise that suits characteristics of post mastectomy women, and to evaluate the effect of Qi gong exercise on immune response, blood circulation index, pulse wave parameter and heart rate variability. Methods This study was applied to total 35 post mastectomy women, including 17 for experiment group and 18 for control group. The Qi gong exercise was composed of total 24 times of 90 minutes per each time, twice a week, and 12 weeks and it was conducted by the oriental medicine professor who was an expert of Qi gong exercise. Results 1. Two group comparison revealed that the experimental group had significantly improved immune response(p<.021), HR(beats/min)(p<.001), ESV(ml/beat)(p=.038), ESI($ml/beat/m^2$)(p=.040), ECO (L/min)(p=.019), ECI($L/min/m^2$)(p=.023), ECRI($dyne^*sec/cm$)(p=.015), Left Kwan($div^3$)(p=.021), Right Kwan($div^3$)(p=.038), Mean HRV(cycle/min)(p<.001), SDNN(ms)(p=.043), RMSSD(ms)(p=.040), and TP(log $ms^2$)(p=.039). 2. Two group comparison revealed that the experimental group had significantly decreased ECR ($dyne^*sec^*cm^{-5}$) (p=.034), Left RAI(p=.044), Right RAI(p=.042), and pNN50(%)(p=.038). Conclusions These results from Qi gong exercise program can be used as basic data for development of health promotion program for Post Mastectomy Women.
A Study about the Effect of the Kwang-Dong Qi-Gong Therapy in Bariatrics. The purpose of this study is to find out what effects the practice of Qi-Gong shows in controlling obese that is one of the main causes of adult disease. In this study, the researchers chose some overweight or obese subjects over 17 years and divided them into two groups, and gave 4 weeks of twelve treatments to one group with Kwang-Dong Qi-Gong therapy developed by Hong Seong-Gyun in Kwang-Dong, and did not give any treatment to another group. And the effects were evaluated by comparative analysis. Before and after the treatments, the researchers measured the height, weight, body fat, BMI(Body Mass Index), hip size, etc. of two groups of them. And the health condition and eating habits of each persons of the two groups were examined before the experiment, and the difference of eating habits between the two groups was investigated in the course of the experiment, and the effects of the therapy that the treated group felt is investigated with an questionnaire sheet after the experiment. The following shows the result of the comparative analysis about the experiment 1. The result of the experiment about the effect of Kwang-Dong Qi-Gong therapy treated to control overweight or obese shows that : a) The height, body weight, BMI, body fat index, chest size did not make any statistically meaningful difference. b) The measurements of hip, waist, forearms, thighs, calves, and ankles made meaningful differences. 2. In the course of the experiment, the eating habits of the two groups did not make any significant difference except the frequency of dining together. 3. The effect of Kwang-Dong Qi-Gong therapy for the group that was given 12 treatments shows that : a) Regarding the change of their defecation, 81% of the subjects in the treated group said 'Yes' and 19% said 'No', that is most of subjects answered positively. b) Before the experiment, three subjects of the treated group had been taking medicine, but after the practice of Kwang-Dong Qi-Gong therapy, they appeared to stop taking medicine. c) 87% of subjects in the treated group said that they 'feel well' after he practice, 13% said that they 'did not feel well', that is most of subjects were satisfied with Kwang-Dong Qi-Gong therapy. d) 81% of subjects in the treated group replied that they 'feel peaceful in mind' after the practice, 19% replied that they 'did not feel peaceful in mind.'

This study investigated the effects of inverted position on EEG and heart rate variability before and after Bang song gong. BSG is a training method using in qi-gong and meditation to give a convergence of consciousness on body segments in order and take a silent speech of 'song'. The subjects were the 14 university students(n=7 per group) who had not experienced any medical problem and had not practiced BSG. They took a practice of the two way of BSG training program for 30 minutes every other day for two weeks. During practicing BSG, A group took sitting position and lean sitting position by turns, B group took inverted and lean sitting position in the same way. Statistical analysis conducted by two-way ANOVA($2groups^{\ast}2periods$) with p<0.05 for average difference of EEG and HR according to position change in each group before and after BSG. In A group, EEG and HR were changeless irrespective of the change of position and BSG. On the other hand, in B group, significant changes were observed in EEG(p<0.05). ${\alpha}$ wave of inverted position were on the increase, ${\beta}$ and ${\delta}$ wave of inverted position showed smaller power after two weeks training. In the variation of HR, there were smaller variation according to the position change after BSG compared to before BSG(p<0.05). The results suggested that an inverted position may make the depth of meditation deeper, and is likely to be effective for decreasing tension of brain and the sleepiness during qi-gong training. In addition to, an inverted position seemed to promote control of blood pressure of brain. So the application of an inverted position to 'BSG' will be very helpful to achieve deeper relaxation and to obtain the desired effect from qi-gong training.
Objectives : The purpose of this study was to investigate the connection between Symptom Checklist-90-R (SCL-90-R), Self-Efficacy Scale(SES) and Qi-gong. Methods : We investigated 141 oriental medical students in Daegu consisted of 36 subjects training Qi and 105 subjects not training. We had all subjects to reply to demographic questimnaire, SCL-90-R questimnaire and SES questimnaire. We made the Qi-training group write the kinds and periods of Qi seperately. Results & Conclusions : 1. The lower SCL-90-R score, the subjects had higher SES score. Total Self-Efficacy score was connected Somatization, Interpersonal Sensitivity, Depression, Paranoid Ideation, Paranoid Ideation score significantly. General Self-Efficacy score was connected Somatization, Obsessive- Compulsive, Interpersonal Sensitivity, Paranoid Ideation, Paranoid Ideation score significantly. Social Self-Efficacy score was connected Interpersonal Sensitivity, Depression, Anxiety score significantly. 2. The Qi-training group's mean all the details of SCL-90-R lower than the non-training's significantly in Somatization, Obsessive-Compulsive, Interpersonal Sensitivity, Depression, Hostility, Paranoid Ideation, Psychoticism. And the Qi-training group's mean all the details of SES higher than the non-training's, significantly in General Self-Efficacy. 3. In Qi-training group, as training longer, mean Somatization, Interpersonal Sensitivity, Depression, Anxiety, Hostility scores get lower and mean Total Self-Efficacy score get higher significantly.
