  • Objectives The authors feel the Qi(氣) through the training, and diagnose and treat our patients through the feeling. In order to utilize the Qi-daignosis, we try to summarize the authors's training process by examining what and how to use the Qi-daignosis. Methods The authors have gathered empirical parts of the psychological part and the various methods of training, through what they need most and how to train them. And we want to describe them in order of importance. Result First of all, with psychological sense of securit you should practice trainingy. It should be able to maintain the unity of the body through relaxation on the basis of 'no thinking only watching'. You must concentrate your energy through concentration and strengthen your inner work. Then you can feel the flow of energy inside your body and you can feel the interaction between the outside and your body. Conclusion By doing this, you naturally begin to apply the Qi-daignosis to your patients. It is not only possible for some doctors with specific abilities. Anyone can feel the Qi(氣) through clinical training and use the Qi-daignosis.

  • Objectives : In relation to Qi and Humor, the paper makes a new suggestion of the Mechanism of Qi and Humor. The paper's objective is to establish a theoretical framework of the Mechanism of Qi and Humor with an aim of providing useful insights on understanding the symptoms of illness displayed by Taeumin.. Methods : A number of materials from Lee Je Ma's Dongyisusebowon, Dongyisusebowon sasangchobonkwon, and texts within Dongmuyoogo that deal in Qi and Humor will be reviewed. Results : Along with the Mechanism of Water and Food, the Mechanism of Qi and Humor is a comprehensive concept that sustains life activities. In more detail, the Mechanism of Qi and Humor can be considered as a mechanism that takes a more active role in controlling the elements that composes the body. Conclusions : Through a basic research on the Mechanism of Qi and Humor, the paper pondered the possibility of Taeumin's symptoms of illness. Based on this result, future theoretical studies on the Mechanism of Qi and Humor should lead to the research of Taeumin's symptoms of illness.

  • This study is about a comparison of controlled and uncontrolled hypertension groups regarding comprehensive diagnosis of Qi blood water and quality of life. We surveyed "controlled and uncontrolled hypertension patients" using questionnaires for comprehensive diagnosis of Qi blood water, SF-36 and HTN QoL (Measurement Scale for the quality of life in hypertensive patients). There was no difference in comprehensive diagnosis of Qi blood water between the controlled and uncontrolled hypertension groups. Within the controlled hypertension group, the patients diagnosed with a Qi deficiency, Qi stagnation, Qi counterflow, blood deficiency, and water retention received lower total scores in SF-36 and HTN QoL than in undiagnosed patients. Within the uncontrolled hypertension group, the patients diagnosed with Qi deficiency, blood deficiency, and water retention got lower total scores in SF-36 and HTN QoL than in undiagnosed patients. These results were statistically significant. These results are insufficient that we and use comprehensive diagnosis of Qi blood water for a diagnosis tool of hypertension. But if we have better studies that make up for weak points, these results will help to make a diagnosis tool for hypertension.

  • Objectives : The comparison of symptoms of hypoadrenocorticism with symptoms according to spleen and kidney show how many points of similarity they are. And by analysis of symptoms of hypoadrenocorticism it was examined that Kidney Jeonggyeok help to cure many different symptoms including symptoms of hypoadrenocorticism. Methods : The symptoms of hypoadrenocorticism were compared and analyzed according to standards of the book of korean traditional medical pathology. First, this study was designed to show to found out how many symptoms of hypoadrenocorticism belong to symptoms of kidney qi-deficiency and slpeen qi-deficiency and how similar they are. Second, the symptoms of kidney qi deficiency were compared with the indicant of kidney Jeonggyeok suggested by two of korean traditional doctors to find out kidney Jeonggyeok can help to cure symptoms of kidney qi deficiency. And then on the basis of those, the symptoms of hypoadrenocorticism were compared with the symptoms of kidney qi deficiency. Results : The hypoadrenocorticism seems to be kidney yang(陽) deficiency. But because hypoadrenocorticism doesn't have body temperature decline, symptoms of hypoadrenocorticism are more similar symptoms of kidney qi deficiency than symptoms of kidney yang deficiency. The symptoms of hypoadrenocorticism seems to be correlated with the functions of spleen. But because of vomiting and pigmentation(skin and mucous membrane), they seem to have less to do with the functions of spleen than the functions of kidney. The comparison analysis of indicant of Kidney Jeonggyeok and symptoms of kidney qi deficiency shows that acupuncture stimulation help to cure kidney qi deficiency and hypoadrenocorticism. Conclusions : Symptoms of hypoadrenocorticism are expected to be more similar symptoms of kidney qi deficiency. And Kidney Jeonggyeok is helpful for treatment of Kidney qi deficiency and hypoadrenocorticism.

  • The study was performed to determine the reliability and validity of the 'Qi Blood Yin Yang Deficiency Questionnaire (Qi Blood Yin Yang DQ)' for the 100 subjects with chronic fatigue. After 100 subjects respond to the 'Qi Blood Yin Yang DQ', Korean medical doctor classified the subjects into 4 groups such as Qi deficiency group, Blood deficiency group, Yin deficiency group and Yang deficiency group. 100 subjects were retested in the same way after 3 weeks. The reliability and the validity of the questionnaire were inspected. Internal consistency of the 'Qi Blood Yin Yang DQ' was excellent (Cronbach alpha 0.916). Test-retest reliability was good (intra-class correlation coefficient 0.699). Construct validity analyzed by exploratory factor analysis produced 4 factors, which were selected from eigenvalues that are greater than 1.0. The 'Qi Blood Yin Yang DQ' consisted of 4 factors. The factor 1, 2, 3 and 4 showed 'Qi deficiency', 'Yin deficiency', 'Yang deficiency' and 'Blood deficiency' respectively. The 'Qi Blood Yin Yang DQ' restructured in this study may provide a fundamental questionnaire and a further study is required for a more advanced, standardized and statistically proven questionnaire.

  • Objectives : The relationship between the Lungs, Stomach and Kidneys were examined in relation to their pulses continuously beating without rest as discussed in the 『Lingshu·Dongshu』, with other chapters in the 『Huangdineijing』. Methods : Chapters in the 『Huangdineijing』 and annotations were referenced in relation to the contents in question of the 『Lingshu·Dongshu』. Results & Conclusions : In 『Lingshu·Dongshu』, the Stomach of the Zuyangming is central. In the flow of Qi that is produced and circulated from the Stomach, we can see that Ancestral qi that is created in the Stomach ascends and accumulates in the chest area to disperse Qi throughout the entire body according to breathing and pulsation, while Nutrient qi exits from the middle energizer and ascends to the Lungs, circulates the entire body and Qi that is partially similar to Defense qi moves upwards to the head and circulates. In the lower part of the body, Qi flows to the Zushaoyin that is associated with Jing qi to assist with actions of the Extra meridians, while it connects to the Ancestral sinew through Zujueyin allowing for smooth movement of the muscles and joints. The special emphasis on the pulsation points of the three meridians, Shoutaiyin, Zuyangming and Zushaoyin, is based on the Qi thoroughfare[氣街] theory, where production and circulation of all Qi in the upper, middle, and lower energizers of the body manifest as pulse movement of the three meridians, which are the fundamental rhythms and movements of life.

  • Psychology and esters medicine are congenital therapeutic partners. they are closer in concept and practice to each other than either is to the principles of western science and medicine. Estern medicine, like most psychotherapies, is concerned with an individual's unique physical and emotional state. The aim of this study is to review Ii-Geug-Byun-Qi(移精變氣療法) therapy which is one of the psychotherapies in estern medicine. We studied few representative books which are about in estern medicine and also studied some clinical case reports on psychotherapies by estern medicine therapy, specially about Ii-Geug-Byun-Qi(移精變氣療法) therapy. Generally we understood Chukyoo(祝由) is the eldest psychological therapy which is based on Shamanism and controlled by Shaman as a doctor. and it is similar to simple psychoanalysis in western medicine. The psychologic therapy of Ii-Geug-Byun-Qi (移精變氣療法) is typical estem medicine psychologic therapy since the principle of estern medice had built like Hwang-Chi-Nei-Ching(黃帝內經). The meaning. of Ii-Geug-Byun-Qi(移精變氣療法) therapy is holistic psychologic therapy which are based on the harmony of mind and body. The practical method of Ii-Geug-Byun-Qi(移精變氣療法) are to refresh patient's emotional condition, like ventilaltion. The second healing method of Ii-Geug-Byun-Qi(移精變氣療法) is persuasion by dialogue. The third method is to clear patient's doubt by explainning of some qutestions. Therefore, the indication of Ii-Geug-Byun-Qi(移精變氣療法) therapy are psychosomatic disease or psychogenic problems. In conclusion, I suggest that the Ii-Geug-Byun-Qi(移精變氣療法) therapy could be powerfully adopt to prevent or treat lots of disease which is related with mind and body induced by stressor.

  • The objective of this article is to induce that the conception of 'Qi-jul(氣質) and Qi-pum(氣稟)' was introduced to the Sasang(四象) Constitutional Medicine from bibliographic study on the theory of 'Qi-pum(氣稟)'. The conclusions summerized as followings. 1. In the oriental medicine, qualitative difference of 'zheng-qi(正氣)' among the individuals, the opposing power against a disease, is regarded as constitution. Having been used as 'nature(素)', 'quality(質)' and 'character(氣質)' in the oriental medical book, the word of 'Che-Jil(體質)' was used in good earnest at the end of 'Qing(情)' dynasty. 2. The nature(性) is divided into two, original nature(本然之性) and charicteristic nature(氣質之性) in the 'New confucianism(新儒學)' and the former means a principle(理), is a pure and good thing and used as a conception of universality, the latter is a principle of character and a imperfect imitation of principle(理). 3. It was repeatedly confirmed that 'Qi-jil and Qi-pum' meant the difference among the individuals by the dispute of 'Li-Qi(理氣)' caused by Lee Hwang(李滉) and Lee Yi(李耳) and by that of 'Ho-Rak(湖洛)' in the Ch'o-son(朝鮮) dynasty. 4. Han Sok-Ji, based on Meng-Zi(孟子)'s doctrine that man's inborn nature is good, criticized the theory of 'Qi-pum' which was 'Zhu-Zi(朱子)'s opinion and his opinion about the life(命) was thought to clue to the classification of the 'Sasang(四象)' invented by Lee Je-Ma as Park Se-Dang's theory that everyone has common nature but has different life(命). 5. By introducing the theory of 'Qi-pum' and the conception of life(命) which was understood as a special character by Han Sok-Ji and Park Se-Dang to Sa-sang constitutional medicine, Lee Je-Ma explained the reason why each man who was classified four constitutions, 'Taiyang'(太陽), 'Taiyin'(太陰), 'Shaoyang'(少陽), 'Shaoyin'(少陰), had the different formation of the visceral department(臟局).

  • Objectives : Effects of Kyungohkgo($Qi{\acute{o}}ng\;y{\grave{u}}\;g{\grave{a}}o$) on intellectual development and learning ability were investigated growth and intellectual impairment rat with insufficient nutrition diet. Methods : We divided male Sprague-Dawley rats into 4 groups(A, B, C, D). They were normal group(A), growth deficiency rat with insufficient nutrition diet group(B), growth deficiency rat with 0.1% Kyungohkgo($Qi{\acute{o}}ng\;y{\grave{u}}\;g{\grave{a}}o$) group(C) and growth deficiency rat with 0.2% Kyungohkgo($Qi{\acute{o}}ng\;y{\grave{u}}\;g{\grave{a}}o$) group(D). They were administered for 5 weeks. We measured body weight, serum growth hormone, insulin-like growth factor and thyroid stimulating hormone, RBC, concentration of Hb and PCV ratio, total WBC and its composition, the values of plasma glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase(GOT) and glutamic pyruvic transaminase(GPT) activities and morris water maze test in escape distance, escape time and escape speed. Results : 1. Body weight showed a tendency to increase in the Kyungohkgo($Qi{\acute{o}}ng\;y{\grave{u}}\;g{\grave{a}}o$) groups and 0.2% Kyungohkgo($Qi{\acute{o}}ng\;y{\grave{u}}\;g{\grave{a}}o$) group showed significantly different than control groups. 2. Serum growth hormone, insulin-like growth factor and thyroid stimulating hormone showed a tendency to increase in Kyungohkgo($Qi{\acute{o}}ng\;y{\grave{u}}\;g{\grave{a}}o$) groups, however these values showed no significantly different. 3. About the counts of RBC, 0.1% and 0.2% Kyungohkgo($Qi{\acute{o}}ng\;y{\grave{u}}\;g{\grave{a}}o$) groups showed significantly different than control groups. Concentration of Hb was higher than control group in Kyungohkgo($Qi{\acute{o}}ng\;y{\grave{u}}\;g{\grave{a}}o$) groups. And 0.2% Kyungohkgo($Qi{\acute{o}}ng\;y{\grave{u}}\;g{\grave{a}}o$) group showed significantly different than control groups in PCV ratio. 4. The counts of total WBC and its composition showed no significantly different in all treatment groups. 5. The values of plasma glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase(GOT) and glutamic pyruvic transaminase(GPT) activities showed no significantly different in all treatment groups. 6. In the morris water maze test, in escape distance and escape speed, Kyungohkgo($Qi{\acute{o}}ng\;y{\grave{u}}\;g{\grave{a}}o$) groups showed no significantly different than control group. But Kyungohkgo($Qi{\acute{o}}ng\;y{\grave{u}}\;g{\grave{a}}o$) groups showed the increasing tendency. Conclusions : So Kyungohkgo($Qi{\acute{o}}ng\;y{\grave{u}}\;g{\grave{a}}o$) have an effect of promoting growth of rats and might be effect to treat various kinds of growth delay in children.

  • Objectives : In this study, the meaning of Movement Qi between kidneys(腎間動氣) in Huangdineijingtaisu(黃帝內經太素) is researched for the purpose of understanding the differences between Huangdineijingtaisu and Nanjing(難經). Methods : The annotations related to Movement Qi between kidneys in Huangdineijingtaisu were selected and analyzed to overview the historical changes of the definition. Results : The meaning of Movement Qi between kidneys in Huangdineijingtaisu is not different from that of Nanjing basically, however, Yang Shangshan(楊上善) suggested additional new meanings including penetration meridian(衝脈), pass way for vital energy(氣街), visceral exhaustion pulse(眞藏脈) and so on. Conclusions : The reason that Yang Shangshan explained the circulation of primordial energy(原氣) focusing on penetration meridian is that he tried to connect the actual functions about Movement Qi between kidneys to clinical treatment than the ideal concept in Nanjing.
