  • This study was performed to obtain an accurate methods of diagnosis in early stage of traumatic pericarditis and myocarditis in ruminants. Korean native goats were used as experimental animal and traumatic pericarditis and myocarditis were induced by surgical intervention. The changes in clinical signs, hematological values, blood enzymes and electrocardigrams were observed for 14 days after operation. The results obtained were as follows: 1. Body temperature in experimental group of induced traumatic pericarditis and myocarditis was slightly increased than control group that was rumenotomized. Heart rate was increased in both groups but the increased rate was noticed remarkably in experimental group. There was no change in respiratory rate in experimental and control group. 2. Total leucocytes counts and neutrophil percentage maintained higher level after operation and lymphocytes percentage noticed reversed proportion to neutrophil in both groups. 3. Serum total protein concentration and alkaline phosphatase activities after operation showed a little lower levels than these values prior to operation. Serum glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase and lactic dehydrogenase activities in control group showed slight increase through all the experimental period, while in experimental group these activities were markedly elevated and an increase in serum lactic dehydrogenase activities was more remarkable comparing to serum glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase. 4. Electrocardiograms in control group did not show any abnormalities except for slight increase in heart rate. In experimental group the amplitude of QRS complex was increased in duration of experimental period. The transference from QRS complex to T wave was uncertain and S-T segment moved upward obliquely through electrical zero line.

  • Cardiac disorder data are generally tested using the classifier and QRS-Complex and R-R interval which is used in this experiment are often extracted by ECG(Electrocardiogram) signals. The experimentation of ECG data with classifier is generally performed with SVM(Support Vector Machine) and MLP(Multilayer Perceptron) classifier, but this study experimented with Best-First Decision Tree(B-F Tree) derived from the Dicision Tree among Random Forest classifier algorithms to improve accuracy. To compare and analyze accuracy, experimentation of SVM, MLP, RBF(Radial Basic Function) Network and Decision Tree classifiers are performed and also compared the result of announced papers carried out under same interval and data. Comparing the accuracy of Random Forest classifier with above four ones, Random Forest is the best in accuracy. As though R-R interval was extracted using Band-pass filter in pre-processing of this experiment, in future, more filter study is needed to extract accurate interval.

  • The baseline wander is most fatal noise, because it obstructs reliable diagnosis of cardiac disorder. Thus, in this paper, the morphology-pair is proposed for estimation of baseline wander except P, T-wave and QRS-complex. Proposed Morphology-pair is able to except P, R, T-wave which have characteristics of local maxima. Likewise Q, S-wave such as local minima are excepted by proposed Morphology-pair. The final baseline wander eliminated ECG signal is deducted by subtraction of original ECG and estimated baseline wander. The experimental results based on the MIT/BIH database show that the proposed algorithms produce promising results.

  • Non-human primates are widely used for experimental animal and raised as companion animal in Korea. To establish the electrocadiogram (ECG) of non-human primates that are domestically raised, the author measured bipolar limb leads and augmented unipolar limb leads, after tiletamine/zolazepam (TZ) injection as sedative agents. The amplitudes of P,Q, R,S and T wave and duration time of P wave, QRS complex, PR and QT interval in each lead of ECG were evaluated in 7 non-human primates at 15 minutes after TZ injection, respectively. The amplitude of P wave in I, II,III, aVR, aVL and aVF leads revealed 0.06$\pm$ 0.05,0.14$\pm$ 0.05, 0.1 $\pm$ 0.05,-0.11 $\pm$ 0.06,-0.04$\pm$ 0.04 and 0.12$\pm$ 0.05 mV respectively. The amplitude of Q wave revealed -0.16$\pm$ 0.15, -0.23$\pm$ 0.18, -0.17$\pm$ 0.13, 0.16$\pm$0.13, 0.04$\pm$ 0.09 and -0.2$\pm$0.13 mV, respectively. The amplitude of R wave revealed 0.56$\pm$0.56, 1.24$\pm$ 0.67, 0.92$\pm$0.33, -0.37$\pm$ 1.14, -0.22$\pm$ 0.47 and 1.12 $\pm$ 0.47 mV, respectively. The amplitude of S wave revealed -0.02$\pm$ 0.08, -0.04$\pm$0.06, -0.06$\pm$0.04, 0.02$\pm$0.04, 0.04$\pm$0.09 and -0.04 $\pm$ 0.06 mV, respectively. The amplitude of T wave revealed -0.01 $\pm$ 0.15,-0.02$\pm$ 0.13, 0.01 $\pm$ 0.08, 0.02$\pm$ 0.12, 0.01 $\pm$ 0.11 and -0.03$\pm$ 0.09 mV, respectively. The duration time of P wave revealed 0.05 $\pm$ 0.01, 0.04$\pm$ 0.01, 0.05$\pm$ 0.02, 0.05 $\pm$ 0.02, 0.04$\pm$ 0.01 and 0.04$\pm$ 0.01 sec, respectively. The duration time of QRS complex revealed 0.05 $\pm$ 0.02,0.05$\pm$ 0.01, 0.05 $\pm$ 0.01, 0.04$\pm$ 0.01, 0.05$\pm$ 0.01 and 0.05 $\pm$ 0.01 sec, respectively. The duration time of PR interval revealed 0.08$\pm$ 0.01, 0.07$\pm$0.01,0.08$\pm$ 0.03, 0.08$\pm$0.01, 0.08$\pm$ 0.01 and 0.08$\pm$0.01 sec, respectively. The duration time of QT interval revealed 0.23$\pm$ 0.06, 0.22$\pm$ 0.05, 0.23 $\pm$ 0.06, 0.23$\pm$ 0.06, 0.24$\pm$ 0.05 and 0.22$\pm$ 0.02 sec, respectively. No significant changes were observed in e amplitude of P and T waves. The amplitude of QRS complex in ketamine group was higher than that of TZ group. However, no significant changes were observed in both intra-group and inter-group. There were no significant changes in the duration time of P wave, QRS complex and PR interval obtained from both groups. Also, the duration time of QT interval in TZ group was significantly longer at 30 min.(P< 0.05) an that of 10 minutes after injection. However, significant difference was not found between two groups. The mean cardiac electric axis in ketamine group tended to decrease until 30 min. after injection and then gradually increase. However, mean cardiac electric axis of TZ group was increased until 30 min. after injection and then decreased. But significant differences were not observed between groups. These results suggest that the ECG pattern after TZ injection to non-human primates reared in korea was established. It was also considered that the injection of ketamine and TZ didn't significantly affect on ECG pattern of the non-human primates.

  • This study was undertaken to search for a new antiarrhythmic agent in natural plants. Extracts of Buxus microphylla var. koreana Nakai have been used as folk remedies of several diseases, including malaria and venereal disease, but any study on the pharmacological actions of this plant has not yet been carried out and its active ingredients have not been identified. In our laboratory, we isolated buxuletin (nonalkaloid) and cyclobuxine D (steroidal alkaloid) from Buxus microphylla var. koreana Nakai and reported their pharmacological actions: diuretic effects of buxuletin in rabbits and hypotensive effect of cyclobuxine D in rats. In the present study, we investigated the effect of cyclobuxine D on isolated frog heart and heart rate in urethane anesthetized rats. In order to clarify the mechanism of bradycardic effect of cyclobuxine D, we examined the changes of the ECG parameters (PR, QRS and R ${\alpha}$ T interval) produced by intravenous injection of cyclobuxine D in anesthetized rats. Cyclobuxine D depressed the contractile force in isolated frog heart and exerted a dose-dependent bradycardic effect in anesthetized rats. Intracerebroventricular injection of cyclobuxine D caused a fall in blood pressure and an increase in heart rate, but those effects were not significant. Cyclobuxine D prolonged the PR interval and RaT interval (${\alpha}$ Tindicates the apex of T), but was without significant effects on the duration of the QRS complex and PRc in urethane anesthetized rats.

  • In this study the complex-valued continuous wavelet transform (CWT) has been applied in detection of Electrocardiograms (ECG) as response to various signal classification methods such as Fourier transforms and other tools of time frequency analysis. Experiments have shown that CWT may serve as a detector of non-stationary signal changes as ECG. The tested signal is corrupted by short time events. We applied CWT to detect short-time event and the result image representation of the signal has showed us that one can easily find the discontinuity at the time scale representation. Analysis of ECG signal using complex-valued continuous wavelet transform is the first step to detect possible changes and alternans. In the second step, modulus and phase must be thoroughly examined. Thus, short time events in the ECG signal, and other important characteristic points such as frequency overlapping, wave onsets/offsets extrema and discontinuities even inflection points are found to be detectable. We have proved that the complex-valued CWT can be used as a powerful detector in ECG signal analysis.

  • The electrocardiographic (ECG) parameters in the normal Korean black goat have been measured with a 3-channel Electrocardiograph and computed, analyzed. ECG in 243 black goats were made with the limb leads (I, II, III, aVR, aVL, aVF), that were recorded conduction parameters of wave and interval, and were analyzed as to shape and amplitude of the P and T waves and the components of the QRS complex. Heart rate were recorded by the ECG which were a mean of 106.1$\pm $21.8 beats/min. Average conduction times in the PR, the QRS complex and the QTc interval were recorded 103.9$\pm $34.9 msec., 58.3$\pm $23.2 msec. and 302.6$\pm $67.8 msec., in the P and T wave duration recorded 24.8$\pm $6.4 msec. and 51.7$\pm $10.8 msec. respectively. The shape of wave in each leads were observed various types, and any spacial wave type appeared the highest frequency in each lead that ware shown less than 60%, and these frequent rate and average amplitudes as fallow: 1. In P waver the frequent rate and average amplitudes of the positive type showed in leads I, II and aVL that were 54.8% (93.0$\pm $ 33.2 $\mu $V), 50.5% (90.1$\pm $30.5 $\mu $V) and 41.7% (58.5$\pm $ 31.1 $\mu $V). Average amplitude of the negative type showed the frequent rate of 49.8% in lead aVE which was -77.6$\pm$ 25.2 $\mu $V. Biphasic type in leads III and aVF were 46.1% (108.4 $\mu $V, -90.2 $\mu $V.) and 45.7% (137.4 $\mu $V, -105.4 $\mu $V.), and amplitudes between positive and negative of it were significant difference. 2. The highest amplitudes of the QRS complex in all leads were 534.8$\pm $ 232.3 $\mu $V of lead II. The frequent rate and amplitudes of the R wave type in the I, II, III and aVF were 30.2% (277.8 $\pm $131.3 $\mu $V), 45.1% (393.1$\pm $114.2 $\mu $V), 48.5% (349.3$\pm $178.3 $\mu $V) and 54.9% (334.4$\pm $129.7 $\mu $V), and QS ways type in the lead aVL was 49.5% (359.2$\pm $195.5$\mu $V), and RS and QS wave types in the lead a VR were 43.3% (312.4 $\mu $V, -212.7 $\mu $V.) and 41.1% (399.2$\pm $92.2 $\mu $V), respectively. 3. In T wave, the frequent rata and amplitudes of the positive type in the leads I, II, III and aVF were 44.6% (207.9$\pm $ 97.1 $\mu $V), 41.6% (245.1$\pm $92.1 $\mu $V), 46.9% (189.8$\pm $ 82.7 $\mu $V) and 53.0% (195.4197.8 $\mu $V), and the negative in the lead aVR was 41.2% (-230.7$\pm$ 103.1 $\mu $V), respectively. The positive and negative types in the lead aVe appeared with same frequent rate of 43.2%.4. Frontal plane vectors for P, QRS, and T were found to lie at 38.1$\pm $ 21.5, 142.0$\pm $ 57.2, and 117.2$\pm $ 63.9 degrees, respectively. These results in ECG of goats may be served to the limited purposes as to conduction parameters, arrhythmias except abnormal ECG because of waveforms, amplitudes and electrical axis of it were variability.

  • A wavelet Electrocardiogram(ECG) detector and its analog-to-digital converter(ADC) for low-power implantable cardiac pacemakers are presented in this paper. The proposed wavelet-based ECG detector consists of a wavelet decomposer with wavelet filter banks, a QRS complex detector of hypothesis testing with wavelet-demodulated ECG signals, and a noise detector with zero-crossing points. To achieve high-detection performance with low-power consumption, the multi-scaled product algorithm and soft-threshold algorithm are efficiently exploited. To further reduce the power dissipation, a low-power ADC, which is based on a Successive Approximation Register(SAR) architecture with an on/off-time controlled comparator and passive sample and hold, is also presented. Our algorithmic and architectural level approaches are implemented and fabricated in standard $0.35{\mu}m$ CMOS technology. The testchip shows a good detection accuracy of 99.32% and very low-power consumption of $19.02{\mu}W$ with 3-V supply voltage.

  • The existing R-peak detection research suggests improving the distortion of the signal such as baseline variations in ECG signals by using preprocessing techniques such as a bandpass filtering. However, preprocessing can introduce another distortion, as it can generate a false detection in the R-wave detection. In this paper, we propose an R-peak detection algorithm in ECG signal, based on primitive signal in order to detect reliably an R-peak in baseline variation. First, the proposed algorithm decides the primitive signal to represent the QRS complex in ECG signal, and by scaling the time axis and voltage axis, extracts multiple primitive signals. Second, the algorithm detects the candidates of the R-peak using the value of the voltage. Third, the algorithm measures the similarity between multiple primitive signals and the R-peak candidates. Finally, the algorithm detects the R-peak using the mean and the standard deviation of similarity. Throughout the experiment, we confirmed that the algorithm detected reliably a QRS group similar to multiple primitive signals. Specifically, the algorithm can achieve an R-peak detection rate greater than an average rate of 99.9%, based on eight records of MIT-BIH ADB used in this experiment.
