  • Tomatoes were harvested at different ripening stages. To determine the ripening stages, We analyzed the relation between the compound concentrations of tomato measured with HPLC and the tomato RGB images. Among the compound concentrations, tomato quality is mostly affected by the Lycopene. The $Q^2$ error of the predicted Lycopene concentration and the corresponding independent component of tomato RGB image, determined from the PLS procedure, was 0.92. and we show the effectiveness of the independent component by comparing the error between the pixel area of RGB image applied by independent component and the simple black white tomato image. This regression made it possible to construct concentration images of the tomatoes, which showed non-uniform ripening. The method can be applied in an unsupervised real time sorting machine of unripe and discolored tomato using the compound concentrations.

  • Purpose: This study was done to identify the types of pain identification made by nurses caring for patients with dementia in nursing homes. Method: To collect the Q-population, 12 nurses working in nursing homes were interviewed. From the collected data, 69 statements were derived and eight patterns of pain identification were categorized. Thirty statements were derived as the Q-sample. Thirty nurses were sampled as the P-sample. The 30 Q-cards with Q-statements were Q-sorted by the P-sample. The results of the Q-sorting were coded and analyzed using the PC QUANL program. Results: Five types of pain identification were identified by nurses for patients with dementia living in nursing homes; Type 1 was named "estimating based on verbal expressions". Type 2 was named "reasoning through physical symptoms". Type 3 was named "confirming pain based on nonverbal expressions being consistent with conditions of physical function". Type 4 was named "empathizing with vocal expressions". Type 5 was named "confirming by comparison with objective pain indicators one by one". Conclusions: The results of this study indicate that comprehensive understanding of pain identification by nurses could help improve the assessment of pain in patients with dementia.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the cognizance of AIDS by applying the Q methodology, as well as to provide preliminary data for developing AIDS prevention campaigns. A Q population was identified from a literature search and in-depth interviews. The study process analyzed the P sample, the study participants, using the Q-sorting methodology to produce the Q sample, which is composed of statements from October 20 to 27, 2014. 20 participants (analyzed) 27 statements and 3 types of AIDS cognizance were produced as a result. These types are 1(N=9), 2(N=6), and 3(N=5), which correspond to denial, social support, and selfish motivation, respectively. The members of the denial type had a strongly negative opinion about AIDS, whereas the social support type showed a friendly gesture. The selfish motivation type took a neutral stance. The common and different points, as well as the distinctive features of these types, were studied. The accomplishments of this study include suggesting an efficient strategy for making an AIDS control policy, as well as a qualitative analysis, through the employment of the Q-methodology, which is useful for understanding human beings' (internal viewpoint).

  • In this study, the characteristics of the experiences and perceptions of vulnerable adolescents on the school environment were explored and categorized, and of which the meanings were confirmed. For this purpose, Q methodology was used, and 94 Q samples were extracted by analyzing pre-interviews, literature analysis, and media search contents to form a Q population. Q classification was performed on the subjects. The schools belonging to the sample P are 7 high schools in Seoul and 4 high schools in Gyeonggi-do. As a result of analyzing the data collected in Q sorting using QUANL-PC program, a Q analysis program, it was classified into 4 types. Type 1 is 'a conformal and moeling type', and Type 2 is 'negative and defiant type', Type 3 is 'passive and helpless type' and Type 4 is 'progressive and struggling type'. Through this study, it is expected that this study will be able to understand the experiences and perceptions of the school environment of underprivileged adolescents, and to obtain the necessary clues for realistic support strategies for them.
