  • LID(Low-Impact Development) has received a great deal of attention in the field of urban water management. The spread of LID technologies as a natural drainage system has led to a rise in consideration of the applicability of policy in Korea. In this respect, the purpose of this study is to analyze experts' perception about utilization, applicability of policy, and improvements of LID by using Q-methodology. The sample included 31 experts who were government employees, landscape architects, researchers, and professors related to LID. All participants completed a 28-statement Q-sort task. Data was analyzed by using QUANL computer software. As a result of this study, four distinct experts' perceptions about LID are identified: Policy Enforcement Oriented Type, Expert Understanding Oriented Type, Manual Oriented Type, and Effectiveness Oriented Type. This study suggested appropriate directions related to LID technologies, and it is helpful to apply the domestic type's LID and increase the efficiency of LID in Korea. However, this study has a limit in which the viewpoint of the researcher intervenes: a complementary searcher is needed to verify the validity by type in policy decision-making.

  • Non-verbal communication cues seem to be increasingly used in social media, such as emoticon, like, follow, etc. A Q methodology study is conducted to explore this phenomenon. Via a series of focus group activities with Facebook heavy users, 34 Q statements concerning online non-verbal communication cues are derived. Different Facebook users conduct Q sorts of these statements based on frequent use basis. Analysis of Q sort result reveals three distinctive usage patterns of non-verbal communication cues in Facebook: 'safe distance keeping' type, 'observing hermit' type and 'fully dedicated aficionado' type. Discussions are made concerning different components of non-verbal communication cues utilized in these groups, respectively, which can provide a theoretical basis for social media design.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to provide basic data to understand the organizational culture of nurses by categorizing nurses' experience of coping with bullying in the workplace through Q methodology and analyzing the characteristics of each type, and to induce correct policy measures and interventions to create an atmosphere created in the nursing clinical field to be more advanced and positive. Methods: To form the Q population, focus group interviews were conducted with nurses working for more than six months at two general hospitals in Seoul and Gyeonggi. Interviews were conducted by 12 nurses introduced to participants who can provide researchers with a wealth of information on workplace bullying experiences without filtration. In addition, the Q population was extracted by reviewing the results. Based on the results derived from this, 38 Q statements in total were extracted. Forty clinical nurses were required to classify Q sample statements, and the data collected through this were analyzed using the pc-QUANAL program. Results: As a result of the analysis, a total of five types of clinical nurses' experiences of coping with bullying in the workplace were identified: 'tense emotion-based tolerance response,' 'positive thinking-based self-effort response', 'individualistic thinking-based passive response', 'support system-based emotional expression response' and 'active response centered on problem-solving'. Conclusion: The derived response types are expected to be guidelines for suggesting strategies to eradicate bullying in the workplace at the organizational level, individual level, prevention level, and organizational culture level.

Methods: The research design was a descriptive design using Q methodology, which is a method of measuring subjectivity. A convenience sample of 42 participants aged 40-60 years and living in the community in Korea was recruited. The PC-QUANL software program (a factor analysis program for the Q technique) was used to analyze the Q-sort data. Results: Four factors were extracted that described different expressions of anger among middle-aged Korean women; these factors explained 50.1% of the total variance. The frames of reference of the four factors were a) direct diversion, b) silent masking with remaining anger, c) self digestion, and d) controlling anger with objectification. Conclusion: In this study has identified patterns and characteristics of anger expression among middle-aged Korean women were identified, which will aid the development of effective anger-management programs for controlling anger in this population. In future studies, it would be helpful to investigate how the patterns of anger expression established herein are associated with specific health problems such as cardiovascular disorder and cancer.

The perception of gender role identity is subjective and varies according to the uniqueness of individual experiences and the value of social culture. Methods: Q-methodology, a technique for extracting subjective opinions was used. In 2010, forty participants completed the Q-sort activity, rating each statement relative to the others. The Q sample has two categories, representing masculinity and femininity, and each category has 20 statements, resulting in 40 adjectives. Results: Using the Q factor analysis, three classifications were identified: 'caring-affectionate type,', 'assertive-confident type,' and 'sensitive-affectionate type.' Despite the differences among the three types in this research, elderly females are likely to have the understanding and patience to comfort others and care for the children. Conclusion: The results of this study revealed new dimensional types of gender role identity and raise the issue of why we need to develop methods for the new dimensional types. Based on the results, further research is needed to compare the findings with those of older males or with women of different age groups.
