  • In order to assess the atmospheric dispersion for the accidental releases of nuclear power plants, in calculating X/Q values in the XOQAR and PAVAN codes which are based on Reg. Guide 1.145, the X/Q and frequency values are plotted on log-normal paper. Starting with the highest X/Q value of this plot, the codes compare the slope of the line drawn from this point to every other point within an increment containing ten X/Q values. If there are fewer than ten values, only the number available are used. The coefficients that produce the line with the least negative slope are saved. The end point of this line is used as the next starting point, from which slopes to the points within the next increment, containing ten X/Q values, are compared. The X/Q values corresponding to the cumulative frequency values 0.5%, 5% or 50% are calculated to search for the $0{\sim}2$ hour X/Q value that tends to be a very conservative value. In this work, a fuzzy logic inference method is used for nonlinear interpolation of the X/Q values versus the cumulative frequency. The fuzzy logic inference method is known to be a food technique for nonlinear interpolation. The proposed method was applied to a potential accidential radioactive release of the Yonggwang nuclear power plant, which gives more realistic X/Q values.

  • The physical properties and the dyeability of the easily dyeable polyester yarn(EDY) were investigated and compared with those of regular polyester (REG-PET). The EDY, copolymerized with small amount of polyethylene glycol(PEG), showed higher intensity of aliphatic CH peak in IR spectrum, lower density and lower compactness than those of the REG-PET from the analysis of IR, density gradient column and XRD respectively. In the physical properties, the EDY has lowers $T_g,\;T_m$, specific stress and initial modulus, and also has higher strain than that of the REG-PET. The EDY can be dyed under atmospheric pressure and its dyeing rate was faster than REG-PET due to low $T_d$, and this seems to be caused by the increased flexibility of Polymer chain in amorphous region of the EDY due to the copolymerization of PEG.ns being within the experimental error, the average values of lifetim. $\tau$(t) are taken for further calculations. Rate constants such as Stern-Volmer quenching constants K$_{sv}$, quenching rate parameters k$_q$ and k''$_q$, static quenching constant V and kinetic distance r are determined using the modified Stern-Volmer eq.tion and sphere of action static quenching model. In order to see whether the reactions are diffusion limited, equations k$_q$ = e$^{-Eq/RT}$ and k''$_q$ = e$^{-Eq/RT}$ are used to determine the values of E$_q$ and E''$_q$, the activati. energies for collisional quenching and the values of E$_q$ are 14.53, 17.28 and 16.20 kJ mole$^{-1}$ for MPNO1, MPNO2 and 2-PI respectively and the values of E''$_q$ are 14.62 and 17.73 for MPNO1 and MPNO2 respectively. From the magnitudes of various quantities it has.een concluded that the reactions are diffusion limited and the observed positive deviations in the S-V plot are due to static and dynamic quenching.

  • Morphological variation of Quercus L. subgen. Quercus in Korea was examined by numerical methods including principal components analysis of major morphological characters. Principal components analysis revealed the presence of five major species groups of the subgen. Quercus in Korea; these include 1) a group consisiting of Q. acutissima and Q. variabilis individuals, 2) Q. dentata, 3) Q. aliena, 4) Q. mongolica, and 5) Q. serrata. The putative interspecific hybrid individuals occupied intermediate position between the putative parent species in the PCA plot. The analysis also strongly suggested that size and shape of leaf blade and teeth or lobes, twig diameter, size and shape of nuts, and length and width of scales are very useful in distinguishing the species and the putative hybrids of the subgen. Quercus.

  • In the classification of satellite images, the representative of training of classes is very important factor that affects the classification accuracy. Hence, in order to improve the classification accuracy, it is required to optimize pre-classification stage which determines classification parameters rather than to develop classifiers alone. In this study, the normality of training are calculated at the preclassification stage using SPOT XS and LANDSAT TM. A correlation coefficient of multivariate Q-Q plot with 5% significance level and a variance of initial training are considered as an object function of genetic algorithm in the training normalization process. As a result of normalization of training using the genetic algorithm, it was proved that, for the study area, the mean and variance of each class shifted to the population, and the result showed the possibility of prediction of the distribution of each class.

  • The temperature dependence on the electron transfer rate constant $(k_{app})$ for hydroquinone redox center in $H_2Q(CH_2)_n$SH-SAMs (n = 1, 4, 6, 8, 10, and 12) on gold electrode was investigated to obtain reorganization energy $(\lambda)$ using Laviron’s formalism and Arrhenius plot of ln $[k_{app}/T^{1/2}]$ vs. T^{-1} based on the Marcus densityof-states model. All the symmetry factors measured for the SAMs were relatively close to unity and rarely varied to temperature change as expected. The electron tunneling constant $(\beta)$ determined from the dependence of the $k_{app}$ on the distance between the redox center and the electrode surface gives almost the same $\beta$ values which are quite insensitive to temperature change. Good linear relationship of Arrhenius plot for all $H_2Q(CH_2)_n$SH-SAMs on gold electrode was obtained in the temperature range from 273 to 328 K. The slopes n Arrhenius plot deduced that $\lambda$ of hydroquinone moiety is ca. 1.3-1.4 eV irrespectively of alkyl chain length of the electroactive SAM.

  • Most of the high voltage insulation systems, such as the power cable joint having hetero interface, are composed of more than two different insulators to improve insulating performance. The partial discharge(PD) in these hetero interface is expected to affect the total insulation performance. Thus, it is important to study electrical properties on these interfaces. This study described the influence of copper and semiconductive substance defects on $\Phi$-q-n distribution between the interface of the model cable joints to classify PD source. PD was sequentially detected for 600 cycles of the applied voltage. The K-means cluster analysis has been analyzed to investigate the $\Phi$-q-n distribution. The skewness-kurtosis(Sk-Ku) plot from K-means clustering results was defined to quantify cluster distribution and classify distribution patterns. The Sk-Ku plot is composed of skewness and kurtosis along abscissa and ordinate which indicate the asymmetry and the sharpness of distribution. As a result of the Sk-Ku plot, it was confirmed that the data was distributed in 1st 2nd and 3rd quadrant at copper foreign substance defect, but in case of semiconductive foreign substance, the data was distributed in 2nd quadrant only.

  • PLS methods are suited for regressing q-variate Y variables on p-variate X variables even in the presence of multicollinearity problem among X variables. Consequently, they are useful for analyzing datasets with smaller number of observations compared to the number of variables, such as NIR(near-infrared) spectroscopy data in chemometrics. In this study, we propose two visualizing methods of p-variate X variables and q-variate Y variable that can be used in connection with PLS analysis.

  • To investigate plant community structure of Uiryung valley, Harujae valley, Kugi valley, Songchu valley, Tobongsan valley in Bukhansan National Park, each thirty eight, forty, twenty six. twenty eight, thirty six plots (plot size 100$m^2$) were set up and surveyed. The surveyed data were integrated and classification by TWINSPAN and DCA ordination techniques were applied to the study area. The plant community were divided into nine groups in seventy nine plots by TWINBPAN and the dividing groups were Carpinus laxiflora community(I), Quercus mongolica community(II), Pinus densiflora community(III), Q. mongolica-P. densiflora community(IV) Q. mongolica-Q. serrata- Prunus sargentii community(V), Q. mongolica Q. variabilis community(Ⅵ), Robinia pseudoacacia-Q. serrata community(Ⅶ). P. rigida-Q. serrata community(Ⅷ), Q. mongolica- Q. variabilis- Styrax obassia community(Ⅸ). So the successional trends of tree species at the natural forest seem to be from P. densiflora to Q. mongolica and at the artificial forest seem to be from R. pseudoacacia, P. rigida to Q. acutissima, Fraxinus rhynchophylla in canopy layer And in the subtree and shrub layer, it wag supposed that from Deotzia prunifolia, Rhus trichocarpa. Rhododendron yedoense var. poukhasleilse, Euonymus oxyphyllous to Magnolia sieboldii, Acer psuedo-sieboldianum, Lindera obtusiloba. In comparing successional trends with past study, it was postulated that successtion is not progressed by human disturbance and soil acidification by the air pollution.
