  • This article describes optimization for PGS(Patterned Ground Shield) of rectangular spiral inductor using Taguchi's Design of Experiment. PGS is decrease method of parasite component by silicon substrate among dielectric loss reduction method. Using taguchi's design of experiment, each parameter is fixed upon that PGS high poison(A), slot spacing(B), strip width(C) and overlap turn number(D) of PGS design parameter. Then we verified that percentage contribution and design sensitivity analysis of each parameter and level by signal to noise ratio of larger-the-better type. We consider percentage contribution and design sensitivity of each parameter and level, and then verify that model of optimization for PGS is lower inductance decreasing ratio and higher Q-factor increasing ratio by EM simulation.

  • Inductors material utilized in the downsizing passive devices and Rf components requires the physical and electrical properties at given area such as inductors thickness reduction, inductance and q-factor increase, low leakage current and thermal stability. In this study, Spiral inductors on the $SiO_2/Si$(100) substrate were fabricated by the magnetron sputtering method. Cu thin film with the thickness of $2{\mu}m$ was deposited on the substrate. Also we fabricated square inductors through the wet chemical etching technique. The inductors are completely specified by the turn width and the spacing between spirals. Both the width and spacing between spirals were varied from 10 to $60{\mu}m$ and from 20 to $70{\mu}m$, respectively. Inductance and Q factor dependent on the RF frequency were investigated to analyze performance of inductor arrays

  • The characteristics of on-chip spiral rectangular inductors in CMOS process are investigated through the simulation and experiment. The ADS-momentum is used for EM simulation, and the spiral inductors are fabricated with Hynix 0.35㎛ CMOS process. This research mainly concerned the effects of the geometric change in terms of the number of turns and the width of micro strip line. The measured and simulated results show that the Hynix 0.35㎛ process could support a top metal spiral inductor of 1nH to 6nH with Q-factor less than 5.

  • A low phase-noise microwave oscillator is presented by a substrate integrated waveguide(SIW) loading a complementary split ring resonator(CSRR) in this paper. The unloaded $Q$-factor of the SIW cavity is increased by loading a complementary split ring resonator(CSRR) and its value exhibits 1960. It is theoretically and experimentally demonstrated that the proposed circuit generates 11.3 dBm of output power at 9.3 GHz and a phase-noise of -127.9 dBc/Hz at 1-MHz offset.

  • Purpose : To investigate the effect of coating material in RF coil, which is one of main parts in MRI machine, on the Q-factor and SNR(signal-to-noise ratio) in MR images. Materials and Methods : RF coils with inner diameter of 1.7 mm were made by using copper wires coated with polyester, polyurethane, polyimide, polyamideimide, and polyester-imide, and by using copper wires in which coating materials had been removed. Q-factors of the RF coils were measured by network analyzer, and SNR values in the spin-echo MR images obtained by 600 MHz (14.1 T, Bruker DMX600) micro-imaging system for the coated and uncoated cases. Results : The measured SNRs were almost same for the RF coils with coat-removed copper wires, however SNRs and Q-factors were different for the coated cases depending on the coating material. They were maximized in the polyurethane-coated case in which the SNR was > 30% greater than polyester-coated case. Conclusion : We made solenoid-type RF coils which were easily used for MR micro-imaging in Bruker MRI probe. There was a significant coating-material dependence in the measured Q values and SNRs for the home-made RF coils. The study demonstrated that the choice of coating material of RF coil may be a critical factor in the MRI sensitivity based on SNR value.

  • The purpose of this study is to understand the characteristics of bearing capacity of shallow foundation on the grounds. We made a comparative study of existing bearing capacity theory, based on the three-dimensional finite element analysis with a variety of conditions such as ground condition, foundation scale and foundation shape. In the finite element analysis, the ultimate bearing capacity showed a gradual convergence in the form of exponential function or logarithm function according to the foundation scale. Although the shear strength increased, the bearing capacity tended not to increase but change linearly. In the results of comparative study of existing bearing capacity theory, bearing capacity ratio ($q_{u(FEA)}/q_{u(theory)}$) of pure sand has the outcome closest to those of the Terzaghi method. Pure clay turned out to be about 0.4~0.6 while normal soil was changed in a range of 0.3~1.3. As shear strength is increased, the results turned out to be less than 1.0. Bearing capacity ratio ($q_u/q_{u(1.0)}$), normalized at 1.0m bearing capacity, was about 35%, 15% and 5% of theoretical formula under the condition of ${\phi}=25^{\circ}$, $30^{\circ}$ and $35^{\circ}$ of pure sand; no scale effect was found with pure clay and the normal soil with lower soil strength level showed less than 10% of the theoretical formula of pure sand. Bearing capacity ratio of each case, in accordance with, the shear strength increase, was largely influenced by the internal friction angle. Shape factor of bearing capacity ratios classified by foundation shapes have different results according to the shapes; the shape factor of circular foundation is 1.50, square foundation is 1.30, rectangular and continuous foundations are 1.1~1.0.

  • Dielectric properties of Ba(ZnS11/3TTaS12/3T)OS13T+x ZnO(x=0, 0.4, 0.8, 1.0 wt%) ceramics have been investigated at microwave frequencies. With excess ZnO, the sinterability was improved and the dielectric constant($\varepsilon$S1rT) and the unloaded quality factor(QS1UT) were increased. The structure changed into hexagonal from pseudocubic as being annealed at 140$0^{\circ}C$ in excess ZnO composition. Also, the temperature coefficient of the resonant frequency ($\tau$S1fT) turned into (-)ppm/$^{\circ}C$ when sintered at 155$0^{\circ}C$ for 2 hours. But the specimen sintered in ZnO muffling showed increased density and $\varepsilon$S1rT but lowerde QS1uT. Among the specimen investigated, expecially the composition added with 0.4wt% excess ZnO showed the most optimum dielectric values ($\varepsilon$S1rT=28, QS1uT x f=120000GHz) better than those of original Ba(ZnS11/2T TaS12/3T)OS13T ceramics.

  • The Markus ionization chamber(R) is a small plane parallel ionization chamber widely used in clinical electron beam dosimetry. Plane parallel chambers were recommended for low energy electron dosimetry with the beam quality at $R_{50}<4.0g/cm^2$ (${\bar{E}}{\approx}10MeV$) according to TRS-398 protocol. However, the quality correction factors ($k_{Q,Q_0}$) of the Markus chamber was not presented in TRS-398 protocol for electron beam quality at $R_{50}<2.0g/cm^2$ (${\bar{E}}{\approx}4MeV$). In this study, the $k_{Q,Q_0}$ factors of the Markus chambers (PTW-34045) for beam qualities at $R_{50}=1.0$, 1.4, 2.0, 2.5, 3.0, and $5.0g/cm^2$ were determined by Monte Carlo calculations (DOSRZnrc/EGSnrc) and the dosimetric formalism of quality correction factor. The derived $k_{Q,Q_0}$ values were evaluated using the produced data based on TRS-398 and TG-51 protocols and known values for the Markus chamber.

  • In this study, in order to develop multilayer piezo-actuator, PMN-PNN-PZT ceramics were fabricated using $Li_2CO_3,\;Na_2CO_3$, ZnO as sintering aids and their piezoelectric and dielectric properties were investigated according to the Bi substitution. Bi substitution enhanced electromechanical coupling factor$(k_p)$ and dielectric constant$({\varepsilon}_r)$. However, mechanical quality factor was deteriorated. At the sintering temperature of $870^{\circ}C$ and Bi substitution of 1mol%, density, electromechanical coupling factor$(k_p)$, mechanical quality factor$(Q_m)$, Dielectric constant$({\varepsilon}_r)$ and piezoelectric constant$(d_{33})$ of specimen showed the optimum value of $7.878g/cm^3$, 0.608, 835, 1603 and 397pC/N, respectively.
