  • In the vector controlled induction machine drives, mechanical speed sensors such as shaft encoder and resolver have been used. However, the mechanical speed sensors present some problems and restrict the wide applications of high performance AC drives. This paper describes the vector control strategy with the speed estimation algorithm in which motor slip frequency is calculated. Also, the angle deviation of the rotor flux vector is calculated and instaneously compensated to keep the q axis flux zero in the rotationary reference frame.

  • In order to investigate the spatial orientation of the spin vectors of galaxies in the Virgo cluster, we carried out a detailed identification of all the certain and possible member disk galaxies with four UK Schmidt Telescope (UKST) III a-j direct plates digitized by the Automated Plate Measuring System (APM). As a result, a relatively large and complete database with no selection effect of the member galaxies has been established. We provide the APM measured values of the position angle (P.A.) and diameters at the isophotal level of 24.5 $m_j / arcsec^2$. Based on this newly generated database, an initial study on the spatial orientation of the spin vectors of galaxies in the Virgo cluster is shown.

  • A tubular centrifugal fin is designed by using various methods of analysis and design. A preliminary design method based on empirical optimum curves for centrifugal fin is used to determine the geometric parameters for tubular centrifugal fan. And, Quasi-3D streamline curvature duct-flow analysis is used to provide the primary position of streamlines and spanwise distribution of flow angle f3r generation of blade geometry based on S1 surface. Three-dimensional CFD solution then is obtained to optimize the blade design. Constriction of flow path in the region of impeller, backward swept blade, and central cone, which are introduced to improve the design, successfully remove or suppress the vortices downstream of the impeller.

  • The necessity of nondestructively inspecting austenitic steels, fiber-reinforced composites, and other inherently anisotropic materials has stimulated considerable interest in developing beam models for anisotropic media. The properties of slowness surface playa key role in the beam models based on the paraxial approximation. In this paper, we apply a modular multi-Gaussian beam (MMGB) model to study the effects of material anisotropy on ultrasonic beam profile. It is shown that the anisotropic effects of beam skew and excess beam divergence enter into the MMGB model through parameters defining the slope and curvature of the slowness surface. The overall beam profile is found when the quasilongitudinal(qL) beam propagates in the symmetry plane of transversely isotropic austenitic steels. Simulation results are presented to illustrate the effects of these parameters on ultrasonic beam diffraction and beam skew. The MMGB calculations are also checked by comparing the anisotropy factor and beam skew angle with other analytical solutions.

  • Recently, the necessity of establishing the way to diagnose the aging of insulation materials and to predict of insulation breakdown become important. The purpose of our work are to investigate the treeing phenomena with a artificial needle shape void by the charge of partial discharge and acoustic emission pulse in each phase angle area at the same time. We have analyzed the ${\Phi}-Q-n$ pattern and the insulation diagnosis of the samples using statistic operators such as charge magnitude and A.E pulse factor, skweness, kurtosis, G,C. Therefore, the relation between the charge of partial discharge and A.E pulse will be helpful and efficient to predict the breakdown just before the breakdown occure.

  • Isophotes and surface brightness distribution were obtained for the late type normal spiral galaxy NGC 7793 (morphological type SA(s)d) which is one of the Sculptor group. The calculated total luminosity $M_{T}$ is obtained as 9.44 and the corrected face on magnitude ${B_T}^{circ}$ is 9.10. The revised distance to this galaxy $\Delta$=3.1 Mpc (de Vaucouleurs and Davoust 1980) is used for calculating the absolute magnitude ${M_T}^{circ}$ = -18.36. From the isophotes, the position angle to the major axis is $101^{circ}$, the mean axial ratio is q=b/a =0.65, and the inclination is i=50$^{circ}$. The concentric indices $C_{21}$=1069 and $C_{32}$ =1.50 are well agreed to the average value of Sd type galaxies.

  • A control method of UPFC (Unified Power Flow Controller) to reduce low frequency oscillation is proposed. UPFC is modelled by voltage source, which magnitude and phase angle can be controlled. Because there needs some time to change to desired value, d-axis voltage and Q-axis voltage is modeled by 1st order delay. LQG(Linear Quadratic Gaussian) is used. It is shown that low frequency can be damped by control of UPFC effectively.

  • Spectral features of the seismic wave propagation from Odaesan Earthquake were evaluated based on the commonly treated random error between the observed data and the prediction values by the stochastic point-source ground-motion spectral model regarding the source, path and site effects. Radiation pattern of the error according to azimuth angle was found to be similar to the theoretical estimate. It was also observed that the spatial distribution of the errors was correlated with the geological map and the Q0 map which are indicatives of seismic boundaries.

  • In this paper, the d, q-axis inductance of IPMSM(Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor) was calculated by the FEA(Finite Element Analysis). And the CVCT(Current Vector Control Test) was performed, and compared with FEA. Therefore the inductance experiment according to the variation of the current phase angle was performed. However, the error was generated in the fundamental wave detection of the voltage and current waveform. So, error has largely effect on the result of computation, it has to note specially. In addition, by using the calculated inductance, the torque calculation was performed and this result was compared through the dynamometer experiment.

  • This paper describes the performance of small waterjet propulsion system and show the influence of performance for nozzle shape and area. The installed engine sets a limit on maximum power in below 1800 rpm for fuel saving. Our designated target is reached by redesign of the impeller considering engine characteristics and extention of nozzle pararell part. The results of the full-scale ships are compared with thoes of the model test. In the future, those experimental data will be applied to the relation study between engine characteristics and powering performance prediction.
