  • To secure the thermal crack resistance of mass concrete, researches and the field applications of low heat portland cement (LPC), ternary blended cement (TBC) which is produced by blending ordinary portland cement with blast furnace slag and fly ash, and early strength low heat blended cement (EBC) increased in recent years. Although the model for adiabatic temperature rise is necessary for estimating the risk of thermal cracking of concrete structures, sufficient data have not been accumulated for these mixtures. In addition, the differences in adiabatic test results have been reported for the volume of test specimens. Therefore, the present study evaluated the characteristics of adiabatic temperature rise based on the type of binder and the volume of the adiabatic test specimen. Test results indicated that the maximum temperature rise ($Q_{\infty}$) and the reaction factor (r) of TBC were the lowest. Test results also showed that $Q_{\infty}$ and r changed with respect to the volume of test specimen. $Q_{\infty}$ and r obtained from 6l equipment were lower than those of 50l equipment. Therefore, corrections with respect to this phenomenon was confirmed and the corrections factors are presented.

  • In this study, microscale, high-performance, solenoid-type RF chip inductors were investigated. The size of the RF chip inductors fabricated in this work was 1.0${\times}$0.5${\times}$0.5㎣. The materials (96% Al2O3) and shape (I-type) of the core were determined by a Maxwell three-dimensional field simulator to maximize the performance of the inductors. The copper (Cu) wire with 40${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ diameter was used as the coils. High frequency characteristics of the inductance (L), quality-factor (Q), and capacitance (C) of developed inductors were measured using an RF Impedance/Material Analyzer (HP4291B with HP16193A test fixture). The inductors developed have inductances of 11 to 39 nH and quality factors of 28 to 50 over the frequency ranges of 250MHz to 1 GHz, and show results comparable to those measured for the inductors prepared by CoilCraf $t^{Tm}$ that is one of the best chip inductor company in the world. The simulated data predicted the high-frequency data of the L, Q, and C of the inductors developed well.l.

  • It was aimed to investigate the effects of caffeic acid on the rates of Maillard reaction. The rates of browning reaction increased as the browning temperature increased. The color intensity of the browning mixtures indicated to depend on the amino acid rather than reducing sugar. Also, the color intensity of the browning mixtures increased more rapidly in the presence of caffeic acid. The increase in color intensity seemed to depend mainly to the polymerization of o-quinones formed from caffeic acid. The caffeic acid, furthermore, appeared to enhance the color intensity of the browning mixtures through the interaction with amino acid, especially methionine and phenylalanine. The activation ener-gies of the browning reaction without caffeic acid were 108∼130 J/mol, and Q10 values were 2.6∼3.2. The activation energies and Q10 values of browning mixtures decreased in the presence of CA. The activation energies of the browning mixtures with caffeic acid were 90∼101J/mol, and Q$\_$10/ values were 2.0∼2.6.

  • The influence of vertical eddy viscosity to the nonlinear interaction of tidal current and wind-induced current is examined using a point model. A zero-equation turbulence model is derived by simplifying the q$^2$-q$^2$1 turbulence model under the assumption that the generation of turbulence kinetic energy is balanced with its dissipation and is further modified to include the depth of frictional influence properly The zero-equation turbulence model is derived and the possibility of resonance in the presence of Coriolis effect is suggested. The amplitudes of tidal currents remain the same regardless of the applied wind stress, but the over-tide component is generated due to the nonlinear interaction of tidal current and wind-induced current. Significant changes in the vertical profile of wind-induced currents can occur according to tide-induced background turbulence. The turbulence model can give rise to misleading results when applied to the wind-driven circulation in the tide-dominated sea such as Yellow Sea unless the tide-induced background turbulence is adequately included in the parameterization of vertical eddy viscosity.

  • Single linkage dendrograms by Mahalanobis's D$^2$, Q correlation, and distance from Principal Component Analysis, respectively, were made to eight rice breeding lines in the none and high fertilizer levels. The dendrograms in the two fertilizer levels were similar in shape. The shape of dendrograms by D$^2$ and Q correlation were identical and they were very similar in shape to that by PCA in the both fertilizer levels.

  • This study was conduced to provide a method of tending practices for natural mixed stands, which have a possibility of inducing to selection cutting stand based on the analysis of stand structures. For this, first, diameter distribution for a balanced selection cutting stand was predicted using Q theory applied to natural stands. The method of estimating diminution ratio coefficient Q is presented. The possible tending practice method which could be adopted to natural stands is discussed based on two different diameter distributions and side conditions.

  • Interactions of phosphorus and zinc in soils are important to determine the availability of the elements because those elements are closely related in the agricultural environment. The objective of this study was to investigate the interactions of P and Zn using desorption quantity (Q)-intensily(I) isotherms. Physically and chemically different soils, acidic Egan, acidic sandy Egeland, calcareous Glenham, and neutral Maddock, were used. The soils were enriched with different concentrations of P and Zn as $KH_2PO_4$ and $ZnSO_4$ solutions, respectively. Zinc enrichments affected availability of P in the Egan soil, which contained higher amounts of clay, organic matter, and exchangeable Fe than the other soils tested. After Zn enrichments, the pH drastically decreased in Egeland sandy soil, not changed in the calcarious Glenham soil, and slightly decreased in Egan and Maddock soil systems. The values of $Q_{max}$ and $I_0$ of phosphorus decreased with increasing Zn concentrations enriched in all soils, the changes of those values did not influence the P buffering power, |$BP_o$| values, in most soils. The influences of P treatment on Zn availability were varied. The values of Zn buffering capacity, $BC_{Zn}$, were lowest in the Egeland soil that had the lowest soil pH, amounts of clay minerals, organic matter, CEC, and exchangeable Fe, and were highest in the calcareous Glenham soil. The $BC_{Zn}$ values ranged from 202 to 4480. With P application, the changes of $BC_{Zn}$ values were more affected by the changes of soil solution Zn contents (I) than the changes of DTPA extractable Zn contents(Q). The change of Q and I values was found to be dependent upon soil properties, especially, soil pH.

  • Biot proposed the frequency dependent formulation for the propagation of elastic waves in saturated media based on the coupled theory mixtures. Based on Biot theory, a special frequency called 'the characteristic frequency' contains unique information of the permeability of soils. The characteristic frequency is measured from I/Q (inverse quality factor) versus frequency curve by an acoustic sweep test, and the permeability of soils is computed from Biot equation. In this paper, laboratory tests are performed at The University of Mississippi using a large test box. The measured characteristic frequency is consistently obtained at 3500 Hz for mortar sands. The computed permeability of mortar sands based on Biot equation turned out 2.01 $10^{-4}m/sec$, while the permeability from the laboratory constant head test turned out 1.49 $10^{-4}m/sec$. This paper addresses the theoretical background and experimental procedure of this technique.

  • This study examined the static characteristics of a spool valve with a hybrid lap between the spool land and the sleeve. The static equation for the pressure characteristics was derived from flow equations that depend on the spool displacement, and the final model was derived from $q_a=q_b=0$ because the pressure characteristics test needs to block the control port in the valve. The static equation for the flow characteristics was derived from the pressure characteristics when the control port is open ($q_a=q_b$, $p_a=p_b$). The characteristic equation in the shifted region was assumed from the proportional relationship between the pressure-flow characteristics and the spool displacement.
