  • This study investigates the anti-corrosion properties of two eco-friendly pyridinium ionic liquids; 4DMN and 4DMP, in a 3.5% NaCl solution. Utilizing weight loss tests, EIS, PDP, quantum chemical calculations, and molecular dynamics simulations, the study demonstrates concentration-dependent inhibition efficiencies of 94% and 92% for 4DMN and 4DMP, respectively. The compounds modulate both anodic and cathodic reactions without altering the corrosion mechanism. EIS data suggest that a protective layer forms, supported by FE-SEM and AFM surface analyses, which reveal improved morphology and reduced roughness. Computational validations corroborate these empirical findings, highlighting the feasibility of these ionic liquids for effective, sustainable corrosion mitigation.

  • The effect of 2-(4-cyanophenyl)amino-1,4-naphthalenedione-3-pyridinium perchlorate (PQ5) on pla-telet aggregation and its action mechanisms were investigated with rat platelet. PQ5 inhibited the platelet aggregation induced by collagen ($6{\;}{\mu\textrm{g}}/ml$), thrombin (0.4 U/ml) and A23187 ($3{\mu}M$) in concentration-dependent manner with $IC_{50}$ values of 5.50, 25.89 and $37.12{\;}{\mu}M$, respectively. PQ5 also significantly reduced the thromboxane $A_2$ (TXA2) formation in a concentration dependent manner. The collagen-induced arachidonic acid (AA) release in [-3H]-AA incorporated platelet, an indication of the phospholipase $A_2$ activity, was decreased by PQ5 pretreatment PQ5 significantly inhibited the activity of thormboxane synthase only at high concentration ($100{\mu}M$), but did not affect the cyclooxygenase activity at all. Collagen-induced ATP release was significantly reduced by PQ5. Calcium-induced platelet aggregation experiment suggests that the elevation of intracellular free $Ca^{2+}$ concentration ($[Ca^{2+}]_i$) by collagen stimulation is decreased by the pretreatment of PQ5, which is due to the inhibition of calcium release from intracellular store and influx from outside of the cell. PQ5 did not showed the effect of anticoagulation as prothrombin time (PT) or activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT). Form these results, it is suggested that PQ5 exerts its antiplatelet activity through the inhibition of the intracellular $Ca^{2+}$ mobilization and the decrease of the $TXA_2$ synthesis.

  • In relation to the preparation of Langmuir-Blodgett thin film, four kinds of N-alkylpyridiniurn bromide were synthesized. The values of surface tensions of these materials, measured with a Traube stalagmometer, gave the relationship between the critical micells hydrophobic radical and between CMC and temperature. Values of thermodynamic properties(${\Delta}H^0_m,\;{\Delta}S^0_m,\;{\Delta}G^0_m,$) for the formatoin of micelle were also obtained. Experiments gave the following results; at the temperature range between 40 and 60$^{\circ}C, CMC of Hexadecyl-, Octadecyl-, Eicosyl-, and Docosyl-Pyridinium Bromide were $7.64{\times}10^{-4}{\sim}9.13{\times}10^{-4},\;3.85{\times}10^{-4}{\sim}4.60{\times}10^{-4},\;2.00{\times}10^{-4}{\sim}2.39{\times}10^{-4},\;and\;1.07{\times}10^{-4}{\sim}1.28{\times}10^{-4}$ mol/l, respectively. Surface tension, ${\Gamma}_{CMC}$, of those were 33.49${\sim}$36.00, 34.78${\sim}$37.61, 35.49${\sim}$37.61 and 38.76${\sim}$55.80 dyne/cm, respectively, The relationship between CMC and the mumber of carbon atoms in the hydrophobic radical, N was expressed as follows : Log(CMC)=A-BN where A and B are constants. At the temperature range between 40 and 60$^{\circ}C$, the change of Gibbs evergy (${\Delta}G_m$) for one methylene group ($-CH_2-$) were -0.65RT, respectively, The minus values of enthalpy change (${\Delta}H_m$) suggest that the formation of micelle is exothermic. Additionally, the overall increase in the entropy change (${\Delta}S_m$) with respect to the temperature increase suggests that the formation of micelle is attained by a exothermic enthalpy directed process.

  • A new solid oxidizer, pyridinium dinitramide (Py-DN) is a low toxic energetic material which can be utilized as a HPGP (high performance green propellant). In this work, Py-DN was synthesized using various starting materials including potassium sulfamate, pyridine hydrochloride, strong nitric acid and sulfuric acid. Physical and chemical properties of the Py-DN were characterized using UV-Vis, FT-IR and a thermal analyzer and their properties were compared to those of previously prepared salts including ammonium dinitramide[ADN, $NH_4N(NO_2)_2$] and guanidine dinitramide[GDN, $NH_2C(NH_2)NH_2N(NO_2)_2$] in our lab. Endothermic and exothermic decomposition temperatures of Py-DN were $77.4^{\circ}C$ and $144.7^{\circ}C$, respectively. The combustion caloric value was 1739 J/g, which is thermally more sensitive than that of conventional dinitramides. It may enable to lower the decomposition temperature, which can reduce preheating temperature required for satellite thruster applications.

  • The ultrasonic absorption of Dodecyl pyridinium bromide (D.P.B.) in aqueous solution has been measured at $20^{\circ}C$ over a range of frequencies between 0.1 mc and 90 mc and a range of concentrations from 5 to 100 mM. The excess absorption was observed only in the solutions the concentration of which was higher than the critical micellar concentration (c.m.c.) both in the presence and absence of salt. The excess absorption of sound and the relaxation frequencies obtained from the absorption curves show a discontinuity with the variation of the concentration of D.P.B. in the neighborhood of 60 mM. Other properties such as viscosity, conductivity and velocity of sound also exhibit such a change near the same concentration. It is concluded that a change in the properties of the micelles of D.P.B. occurs in the neighborhood of this concentration. The mechanism of the observed ultrasonic excess absorption in attributed to the reaction $M_2{\rightleftarrow}M_1+2Br^-$where$M_2$ and$M_1$are two types of micelles. The rate constants of forward and backward reactions are found to be $6.9 {\times} 10^5 sec^{-1)$and $6.7{\times}10^{10}sec^{-1}mole{-2}$ respectively. Some kinetic characteristics including free energy, enthalpy, entropy and activation energy were calculated.
