  • In this paper, the image segmentation method based on the hierarchical pyramid image structure of reduced resolution versions of the image for solving the problems in the conventional methods is presented. This method is described the object detection and delineation by statistical approach. In the object detection method, IFSVR( Inverse-father-son variance ratio) method and FSVR(father-son variance ratio ) method are proposed for solving clustering validity problem occurred In the hierarchical pyramid image structure. An optimal object pixel Is detected at some level by this method. In the object delineation method, the iterative algorithm by top-down traversing method is proposed for moving the optimal object pixel to levels of higher resolution. Using the computer simulation, the results by the proposed statistical methods and object traversing method are investigated for the binary Image and the real image. At the results of computer simulation, the proposed methods of image segmentation based on the hierarchical pyramid Image structure seem to have useful properties and deserve consideration as a possible alternative to existing methods of image segmentation. The computation for the proposed method is required 0(log n) for n${\times}$n input image.

  • In the closed range space, the parallel two CCD cameras are used to acquire a pair of stereo image. The acquired stereo image are computed with Wavelet Transform repeatedly and including the low frequency component, the image size of those are reduced. It is the pyramid structure. The optimum matching point is searched to the pixel. Then appling the optimum matching point to DLT, it extract the three - dimensional surface coordinate from a stereo image. The direct linear transformation(DLT) method is used to calibrate the stereo camera compute the coordinate on a three dimensional space. To find the parameters for the DLT method, 30 control points which marked on the cylinder type object are used. To improve the matching algorithm, the paper select the pyramid structure for Wavelet Transform. The acquired disparity information is used to represent the really three-dimensional surface coordinate.

  • Before performing an adaptive stereo matching using satellite images, classification is needed as a preprocessing step. This paper describes that classification of three land cover types : river, mountain, and agricultural fields. We proposed that classification algorithm using pyramid structure and texture features. Results of applying the proposed algorithm to satellite image improved classification accuracy.

  • We present a detailed analysis of the light extraction efficiency (LEE) of a core-shell nanorod light emitting diode (LED) using finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) simulations. We found that the LEE has a deep dependence on source positions and polarization directions based on the calculated LEE results for every x and z position inside the core-shell nanorod structure. The LEEs are different for the upper part (pyramid) and the lower part (sidewall) of the core-shell nanorod owing to total internal reflection (TIR) and the generated optical modes in the structure. As a result, the LEE of sidewall is much larger than that of pyramid. The averaged LEE of the core-shell nanorod LED is also investigated with variable p-GaN thickness, n-GaN thickness, and height for the design guidelines for the optimized LEE of core-shell nanorod LEDs.

  • The number of explosive attacks on civilian structures has recently increased. Protection of structure subjected to blast load remains quite sophisticated to predict. The use of the pyramid cover system (PCS) to strengthen sandwich structures against a blast terror has great interests from engineering experts in structural retrofitting. The sandwich steel structure performance under the impact of blast wave effect is highlighted. A 3-D numerical model is proposed to study the PCS layer to strengthen sandwich steel structures using finite element analysis (FEA). Hexagonal core sandwich (XCS) steel panels are used to study structural retrofitting using the PCS layer. Field blast test is conducted. The study presents a comparison between the results obtained by both the field blast test and the FEA to validate the accuracy of the 3-D finite element model. The effects are expressed in terms of displacement-time history of the sandwich steel panels and pressure-time history effect on the sandwich steel panels as the explosive wave propagates. The results obtained by the field blast test have a good agreement with those obtained by the numerical model. The PCS layer improves the sandwich steel panel performance under impact of detonating different TNT explosive charges.

  • The optical film for light luminance improvement of BLU that is used in LCD/LED and retro-reflective film is used as luminous sign consist of square and triangular pyramid structure pattern based on V-shape micro prism pattern. In this study, we analyzed machining characteristics of Cu-plated flat mold by shaping with diamond tool. First, cutting conditions were optimizing as V-groove machining for the experiment of micro prism structure mold machining with prism pattern shape, cutting force and roughness. Second, the micro prism structure such as square and triangular pyramid pattern were machined by cross machining method with optimizing cutting conditions. Burr and chip shape were discussed with material properties and machining method.

  • Palletized color images are the dominant type of the image used on Internet and World-Wide Web. In spite of this, most image compression and progressive transmission algorithm have been designed for continuous-tone images. Pallettize images. Palletized images differ from continuous-tone images in such a aspect that values are lookup table indices a new pyramid structure for compression and progressive transmission of a palletized image. In the proposed pyramid structure, the color of a node at higher level is the one that occupies the most part in 4 sons and each node is represented by a type code and several color codes. Since the proposed method do not exploit spatial correlation in an image, it is ideally applied to lossless compression and progressive transmission of palletized images. We have confirmed this through the experimental results.

  • Auxetic is a structure that behave as negative Poisson's ratio. It is known for high mechanical property like energy absorption and destruction toughness so far. In this paper, we aimed to design auxetic structure which has small internal energy when force is applied and high NPR and over 50N/mm stiffness by using optimization method. We defined length(L), thickness(t), angle(${\theta}_1$, ${\theta}_2$) as design factors and also von-Mises stress, NPR, stiffness as reaction factors. We used Box-Behnken method and conducted 4factors - 3levels experiment design. We also analyzed each models by using CSD_EPLAST, Edison program, and did extra analysis for more accurate results. Finally, we found out the optimal design factors which is satisfied aimed value and increased reliability through factor analysis and validity verification.
