  • Photovoltaic (PV) module can generate electricity using sunlight without causing any environmental degradation. Due to higher fossil fuel prices and environmental awareness, PV applications are becoming more popular as clean source of electricity generation. PV output is sensitive to the operating temperature and can be drastically affected in Building Integrated PV (BIPV) systems. PV Solarwall (SWPV) combination and PV systems have been evaluated in this study for improvement in electrical output and system costs. PV modules under forced ventilation. A 75W polycrystalline silicon PV module was fixed on SW in front of the ventilation fan as it was indicated to be the coolest position on the SW in phoenix simulations. The effectiveness of cooling by means of the forced ventilating air stream has been studied experimentally. The results indicate that there appears to be significant difference in temperature as well as electricity output comparing the SWPV and BIPV options. Electrical output power recovered is about $4\%$ during the typical day of the month of February. RETScreen(R) analysis of a 3kW PV system hypothetically located at Taegu has shown that with typical temperature reduction of $15^{{\circ}C$, it is possible to reduce the simple payback periods by one year. The work described in this paper may be viewed as an appraisal of a SWPV system based on its improved electrical and financial performances due to its ability to operate at relatively lower temperatures.

Inhibitory Activity of Sedum middendorffianum-Derived 4-Hydroxybenzoic Acid and Vanillic Acid on the Type III Secretion System of Pseudomonas syringae pv. tomato DC3000

  • The type III secretion system (T3SS) is a key virulence determinant in the infection process of Pseudomonas syringae pv. tomato DC3000 (Pst DC3000). Pathogen constructs a type III apparatus to translocate effector proteins into host cells, which have various roles in pathogenesis. 4-Hydroxybenozic acid and vanillic acid were identified from root extract of Sedum middendorffianum to have inhibitory effect on promoter activity of hrpA gene encoding the structural protein of the T3SS apparatus. The phenolic acids at 2.5 mM significantly suppressed the expression of hopP1, hrpA, and hrpL in the hrp/hrc gene cluster without growth retardation of Pst DC3000. Auto-agglutination of Pst DC3000 cells, which is induced by T3SS, was impaired by the treatment of 4-hydroxybenzoic acid and vanillic acid. Additionally, 2.5 mM of each two phenolic acids attenuated disease symptoms including chlorosis surrounding bacterial specks on tomato leaves. Our results suggest that 4-hydroxybenzoic acid and vanillic acid are potential anti-virulence agents suppressing T3SS of Pst DC3000 for the control of bacterial diseases.

  • Type VI secretion system (T6SS) is a contact-dependent secretion system, employed by most gram-negative bacteria for translocating effector proteins to target cells. The present study was conducted to investigate T6SS in Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae (Xoo), which causes bacterial blight in rice, and to unveil its functions. Two T6SS clusters were found in the genome of Xoo PXO99A. The deletion mutants, Δhcp1, Δhcp2, and Δhcp12, targeting the hcp gene in each cluster, and a double-deletion mutant targeting both genes were constructed and tested for growth rate, pathogenicity to rice, and inter-bacterial competition ability. The results indicated that hcp in T6SS-2, but not T6SS-1, was involved in bacterial virulence to rice plants. However, neither T6SS-1 nor T6SS-2 had any effect on the ability to compete with Escherichia coli or other bacterial cells. In conclusion, T6SS gene clusters in Xoo have been characterized, and its role in virulence to rice was confirmed.

  • It is saving material cost and construction cost by replacing conventional building materials, and It has advantages for aesthetic value. In the Europe, the United States, Japan and other country research about BIPV is actively being carried out and marketability is also being infinity expanding. Arch type PV systems efficiency characteristics is different depending on PV array's directly connection, parallel connection and arches angle, but is a lack of analysis on this nowadays. When the arch type PV system design up, they consider about aesthetic value and they didn't consider about generation efficiency. In this paper, we try to improve the efficiency through optimization of arch type PV system and estimation of the efficiency parameters of the arch type PV system, such as latitude, longitude, temperature, insolation, arch angle and each kind loss from system organization. For improving Arched PV system efficiency, proposed multiple control inverter system, and using simulation tool of Arched PV system "Solar pro", flat-plate type and many arch type PV system configuration the driving characteristics were compared and analyzed.

  • The heat from PV modules should be removed for better electrical performance, and can be converted into useful thermal energy. A photovoltaic-thermal(PVT)module is a combination of PV module with a solar thermal collector which forms one device that converts solar radiation into electricity and heat simultaneously. The performance of the PV/Thermal combined collector module is directly influenced by solar radiation that also has an effect on PV module temperature. It is also has believe that the energy performance of PV/T collector is related to absorber design as well as PV module temperature. The existing study has been paid to the PV/Thermal combined collector module with circle tube absorbers. The aim of this study is to analyze the experimental performance of the PV/Thermal combined collector rectangular tube absorbers according to solar radiation. The experimental result show that the average thermal and electrical efficiencies of the PVT collector were 43% and14.81% respectively. Solar radiation is one of the most influential factors to determine the energy performance of PVT collector, but from a certain level of solar radiation the PVT collector receives on, its efficiencies began to decrease.

Optimization of photovoltaic thermal (PV/T) hybrid collectors by genetic algorithm in Iran's residential areas

  • In the present study, PV/T collector was modeled via analysis of governing equations and physics of the problem. Specifications of solar radiation were computed based on geographical characteristics of the location and the corresponding time. Temperature of the collector plate was calculated as a function of time using the energy equations and temperature behavior of the photovoltaic cell was incorporated in the model with the aid of curve fitting. Subsequently, operational range for reaching to maximal efficiency was studied using Genetic Algorithm (GA) technique. Optimization was performed by defining an objective function based on equivalent value of electrical and thermal energies. Optimal values for equipment components were determined. The optimal value of water flow rate was approximately 1 gallon per minute (gpm). The collector angle was around 50 degrees, respectively. By selecting the optimal values of parameters, efficiency of photovoltaic collector was improved about 17% at initial moments of collector operation. Efficiency increase was around 5% at steady condition. It was demonstrated that utilization of photovoltaic collector can improve efficiency of solar energy-based systems.

  • Molding shrinkage s variation is one of the problems to be solved in conventional injection molding. Despite many trying-out has been to solve these, intrinsic causes of shrinkage such as orientation and thermal exchange between melt and mold has yet not solved. For reducing shrinkage and residual stress on molding, injection compression molding process was invented. In this study, experiments about effect of injection compression molding's parameters on shrinkage of molding were conducted with PMMA and compared with conventional injection molding's shrinkage. Before the injection compression molding experiment, molding shrinkage rate was predicted by analyzing pvT graph and was compared with the results of experiment. The shrinkage rate of injection compression molding was lower than convention injection molding' one but was different from the predicted shrinkage. The reason was observed that experiment mold as not positive type, flowing backward of melt into nozzle and unreasonable mechanism of injection molding machine.

  • 일반적인 FOCV MPPT는 VOC와 VMPP와의 관계인 ${\alpha}$를 외부에서 지정해준다. 하지만 외부환경 (조도나 온도)에 따라서 태양전지의 ${\alpha}$값이 변화할 가능성이 있다. 본 논문에서는 저전력 IoT 센서의 구동을 위한 태양열 에너지 하베스팅을 위해 IV Curve를 이용한 태양전지 전력 계싼회로를 제안한다. IV Curve를 이용한 태양전지 전력을 직접 계산하여 FOCV MPPT를 개선함으로써 보다 높은 효율의 MPPT가 가능하고 외부환경의 변화에도 충분히 Maximum Power Point Tracking이 가능해지게 된다.

  • The standard for the frequency protection of distributed generation in Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO)'s standard doesn't include the setting of frequency protection. Therefore, this paper analyzes the correlation between the frequency protection requirements and the stability of grid-connected PV system for the adjustable operating setting of frequency protection. The distribution system interconnected with 3 MW PV system is modeled by Matlab/Simulink. The various value of frequency is simulated. For studied cases, the stability of PV system is analyzed. It is concluded that the operating setting of frequency protection can be determined by the stability of PV system.
