Corrosion of metallic materials occurs by the reaction with corrosive environment. In general, corrosive environments are classified as atmospheric, marine, soil etc. and regardless of any corrosive environments, reduction of thickness and cracking and degradation are induced by corrosion. Among several corrosive environments, knowing the atmospheric corrosiveness of a region, city, or country is considered of ultimate importance for major industrialists and investors who require knowledge of the corrosive impact of the atmosphere on everyday materials such as carbon steel, weathering steel, zinc, copper, and aluminium. This is why the atmospheric corrosiveness map is needed. This paper dealt with corrosion properties between several waters in the region and carbon steel, weathering steel, galvanized steel, pure copper, and pure aluminium at the representative rural area of Korea - Andong.
The effect of passive film on corrosion of metals and alloys in a static corrosive environment has been studied by many researchers and is well known, however few studies have been conducted on the electrochemical measurement of metals and alloys during cavitation corrosion conditions, and there are no test standards for electrochemical measurements 'During cavitation' conditions. This study used commercially additive manufactured(AM) pure titanium in tests of anodic polarization, corrosion potential measurements, AC impedance measurements, and repassivation. Tests were performed in 3.5% NaCl solution under three conditions, 'No cavitation', 'After cavitation', and 'During cavitation' condition. When cavitation corrosion occurred, the passive current density was greatly increased, the corrosion potential largely lowered, and the passive film revealed a small polarization resistance. The current fluctuation by the passivation and repassivation phenomena was measured first, and this behavior was repeatedly generated at a very high speed. The electrochemical corrosion mechanism that occurred during cavitation corrosion was based on result of the electrochemical properties 'No cavitation', 'After cavitation', and 'During cavitation' conditions.
Deformation behavior of pure aluminum during equal channel angular pressing (ECAP) was simulated using a three-dimensional version of the finite element method in conjunction with a constitutive model based on the dislocation density and cell evolution. The three-dimensional finite element analyses for the prediction of microstructural features, such as the variation of the dislocation density and the cell size with the number of ECAP, are reported. The calculated stress and strain and their distributions are also investigated for the route Bc ECAP processed pure aluminum. The results of finite element analyses are found to be in good agreement with experimental results for the dislocation cell size. Due to the accumulation of strain throughout the workpiece and an overall trend to saturation in cell size, a decrease of the difference in cell size with the number of passes (1~4) was predicted.
The present study describes a new technique to extract the primary silicon from an Al-Si alloy melt using centrifugal force during its solidification. The primary silicon was separated from an Al-50 wt.%Si alloy by centrifugal force in the form of a foam, which facilitated subsequent acid leaching to extract the pure silicon due to its wide surface area. The foam recovery after centrifugal separation was decreased as centrifugal acceleration was increased. The final recovery after acid leaching became closer to the solid fraction of the alloy, which was calculated from the Al-Si binary phase diagram, with increasing centrifugal acceleration due to the effective removal of the attached Al on the foam. The purity of the primary silicon obtained by the centrifugal separation method was over 99.99%, with only aluminum being also present.
The purpose of this study is to develop new V-free Ti alloys which have good mechanical properties and corrosion resistance. Although pure Ti has an excellent biocompatibility and corrosion resistance in body, it is inferior to Ti alloys in mechanical properties, and Ti-6Al-4V which has good mechanical properties was known to be cytotoxic due to the alloying element V. New Ti based alloys which do not contain the toxic metallic components were developed by the alloy design technique. Their corrosion and mechanical characteristics were compared with pure Ti and Ti-6Al-4V in this study. The results showed that Ti-20Zr-3Nb-3Ta-0.2Pd-1In and Ti-5AI-4Zr-2.5Mo exhibit good mechanical oroperties and an excellent corrosion resistance in 0.9% NaCl solution.

Dynamic deformation behavior of ultra-fine-grained pure coppers fabricated by equal channel angular pressing (ECAP) was investigated in this study. Dynamic torsional tests were conducted on four copper specimens using a torsional Kolsky bar, and then the test data were analyzed by their microstructures and tensile properties. The 1-pass ECAP'ed specimen consisted of fine dislocation cell structures elongated along the ECAP direction, which were changed to very fine, equiaxed subgrains of 300~400 nm in size as the pass number increased. The dynamic torsional test results indicated that maximum shear stress increased with increasing ECAP pass number. Adiabatic shear bands were not found at the gage center of the dynamically deformed torsional specimen of the 1- or 4-pass ECAP'ed specimen, while some weak bands were observed in the 8-pass ECAP'ed specimen. These findings suggested that the grain refinement according to the ECAP was very effective in strengthening of pure coppers, and that ECAP'ed coppers could be used without serious reduction in fracture resistance under dynamic torsional loading as adiabatic shear bands were hardly formed.
Carbon nanotubes(CNTs) have outstanding mechanical, thermal, and electrical properties. Thus, by placing nanotubes into appropriate matrix, it is postulated that the resulting composites will have enhanced properties. Cold spray can produce thick metal-based composite coatings with very high density, low oxygen content, and phase purity, which leads to excellent physical properties. In this study, we applied cold spray coating process for the consolidation of Cu/CNT composite powder. The precursor powder mixture, in which CNTs were filled into copper particles, was prepared to improve the distribution of the CNT in copper matrix. Pure copper coating was also conducted by cold spraying as a reference. Annealing heat treatment was applied to the coating to examine its effect on the properties of the composite coating. The hardness of Cu/CNT composite coating represented similar value to that of pure copper coating. It was importantly found that the electrical conductivity of the Cu/CNT composite coating significantly increased from 53% for the standard condition to almost 55% in the optimized condition, taking annealed ($500^{\circ}C/1hr$.) copper coating as a reference (100%). The thermal conductivity of Cu/CNT composite coating layer was higher than that of pure Cu coating. It was also found that the electrical and thermal conductivities of Cu/CNT composite could be improved through annealing heat treatment. The microstructural evolution of Cu/CNT coating was also investigated and related to the macroscopic properties.

The goal of the current research was to assess the influence of the growth rate of Nocardia amarae on its overall metal binding capacity. Batch sorption isotherms for cadmium (Cd), copper (Cu), and nickel (Ni) showed that Nocardia cells harvested from chemostat cultures at a dilution rate of $0.33d^-1$ had a significantly higher metal sorption capacity than cells grown at 0.5 and $1d^-1$. The cell surface area estimated using a dye technique indicated that pure N. amarae cells grown at a lower growth rate had a significantly more specific surface area than cells harvested from a higher growth rate operation. Accordingly, this difference in the specific surface area seemed to indicate that the higher metal sorption capacity of the slowly growing Nocardia cells was due to their higher specific surface area.
A novel technology for recycling valuable metals contained in waste dry-battery by vacuum metallurgy was devised by theoretical analysis. On the condition of the total chamber pressure of 1.013$\upsilon$10$^1$Pa, Hg, Cd and Zn are distilled in the temperature range of 773~973K, Pb is volatilized in the range of 1173~1273K while Mn, Cu, Fe and C are remained in residual. MnO$_2$and ZnO are reduced by carbon in waste dry-battery in 773~1273K. Pure metals including Zn, Cd, Hg and Pb can be recovered respectively from their mixed vapor by fractional condensation. Metal Cu and MnO$_2$can be obtained from the residual by hydrometallguical method. The technology can eliminate the pollution of Cd, Hg and Pb to environment.

This study attempts to develop a process which can produce three-dimensional shapes of metals directly from CAD data. Prototypes made from metals, can not only be used to test the mecchanical properties of the product, but also potentially become the actual die or product itself. The test-device of the process has been designed and manufactured. The laser scanning method using a scanning path schedule composed of circle and arc elements, scanning speed variation method and dwell method have been developed, which resist warping phenomenon and increase the adhesiveness between the layers. For the production of prototypes with pure iron powder, the optimal values of the principal process parameters have been determined, through which cross-shaped and twisted clover-shaped prototypes have been fabricated. In order to improve the strength of the prototype, the experimental studies of solid-phase sintering, and copper infiltration have been done.
