The springback characteristics of some sheet metals such as commercially pure aluminium, mild steel and stainless steel in a forming process are investigated experimentally. Three geometrical parameters for evaluating springback in the plane-strain draw-bending, which was a benchmark model of NUMISHEET '93 conference, are defined. The measurement of the springback parameters is carried out accurately and easily by using an image analysis system developed in this study. The effects of the blank holding pressure and tensile strength of the material on the springback are also examined.
For ultra-pure water, the removal of various impirities is required, and the requirement level is rising year by year. To cope with this problem, various removing technologies and system technologies have been developed and the introduction of new materials for the piping, etc. to form the system have been positively made. For the element technologies to be used for ultra-pure water production, their range will be expanded from the technological and economic viewpoints. Therefore, it is absolutely necessary to develop trace analysis evaluation technologies for ultra-pure water. Especially to raise the analytical level of heavy metals and organic substances is important. It is also important to establish individual analysis methods of organic substances. It is expected that the analytical methods will be established and new treating methods will be put to practical use in the near future.

Refractory materials, such as W and Mo, are very useful elements for use in high-temperature applications. But it is not easy to fabricat pure W and Mo with very high density and retaining very fine grain size because of their high melting point. In this paper, a newly developed method named as resistance sintering under ultra high pressure was use to fabricate pure fine-grained W and Mo. The microstructure was analysis by SEM. The sintering mechanism is primary analyzed. Basic physical property of these sintered pure W and Mo, such as hardness, bend strength, are tested.
This study sought to investigate the reaction of Co-binder containing tungsten with molten zinc. Four kinds of Co-W alloys (pure, 10%W, 20%W, 30%W) were prepared using the powder metallurgy method. The specimens were immersion-tested in molten pure zinc baths at $460^{\circ}C$. To evaluate the corrosion property in molten zinc, the weight loss of the specimen was measured after the immersion tests at different immersion times (10~300 min.). Co-10%W alloys, compared with pure cobalt, showed no effect of tungsten addition on the reaction rate in molten zinc. The relationship between the weight loss and the square root of immersion period represents a straight line in both pure cobalt and Co-10%W alloy. The Co-Zn reaction layer in Co- 1O%W alloy consists of $\gamma2$, $\gamma1$, $\gamma$ and ($\beta1$ phases. The rate of weight loss significantly increases and the weight loss behavior is not well accord with the linear relationship as the tungsten content in the Co-W alloy increases. The $\beta1$ layer was not formed on the Co-20%W alloy and neither was a stable Co-Zn intermetallic compound layer found on the Co-30%W alloy. The main cause of increase in reaction rate with increasing tungsten content is related with the instability of the Co-Zn reaction phases as seen on micro-structural analysis.
Research advances in dental implantology have led to the development of several different types of materials and it is anticipated that continued research will lead to advanced dental implant materials. Currently used pure titanium has relatively low hardness and strength which may limit its ability to resist functional loads as a dental implant. Ti-6Al-4V also has potential problems such as corrosion resistance. osseointegration properties and neurologic disorder due to aluminium and vanadium, known as highly toxic elements, contained in Ti-6Al-4V. Newly developed titanium based alloys(Ti-20Zr-3Nb-3Ta-0.2Pd-1In, Ti-20Zr-3Nb-3Ta-0.2Pd) which do not contain toxic metallic components were designed by the Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST) with alloy design techniques using Zr, Nb, Ta, Pd, and In which are known as non-toxic elements. Biocompatibility and osseointegration properties of these newly designed alloys were evaluated after implantation in rabbit femur for 3 months. The conclusions were as follows : 1. Mechanical properties of the new designed Ti based alloys(Ti-20Zr-3Nb-3Ta-0.2Pd-1In, Ti-20Zr-3Nb-3Ta-0.2Pd) demonstrated close hardness and tensile strength values to Ti-6Al-4V. 2. New desinged experimental alloys showed stable corrosion resistance similar to the pure Ti but better than Ti-6Al-4V. However, the corrosion rate was higher for the new alloys. 3. Cell culture test showed that the new alloys have similar cell response compared with pure Ti and Ti-6Al-4V with no cell adverse reaction. 4. New designed alloys showed similar bone-metal contact ratio and osseointegration properties compared to pure Ti and Ti-6Al-4V after 3 months implantation in rabbit femur. 5. Four different surface treatments of the metals did not show any statistical difference of the cell growth and bone-metal contact ratio.
Cu based amorphous ($Cu_{54}Zr_{22}Ti_{18}Ni_6$) coating was produced by cold spraying as a new fabrication process. The microstructure and macroscopic properties of amorphous coating layer was investigated and compared with those of cold sprayed pure Cu coating. Amorphous powders were prepared by gas atomization and Al 6061 was used as the substrate plate. X-ray diffraction results showed that Cu based amorphous powder could be successfully deposited by cold spraying without any crystallization. The Cu based amorphous coating layer ($300{\sim}400{\mu}m$ thickness) contained 4.87% porosity. The hardness of Cu based amorphous coating represented $412.8H_v$, which was correspond to 68% of the hardness of injection casted bulk amorphous material. The wear resistance of Cu based amorphous coating was found to be three times higher than that of pure Cu coating. The 3-point bending test results showed that the adhesion strength of Cu based amorphous coating layer was higher than that pure Cu coating. It was also observed that hard Cu base amorphous particle could easily deform soft substrate by particle collisions and thus generated strong adhesion between coating and substrate. However, the amorphous coating layer unexpectedly represented lower corrosion resistance than pure Cu coating, which might be resulted from the higher content of porosity in the cold sprayed amorphous coating.
The instability of MOS devices is mainly caused by the oxide charges, and as the need to develop the gate metal grows researches for various new metal gate have been performed, and in these researches, the difference work function existing between the metal and the semiconductor should be considered. Here int his paper, the device is made by the sputtering and the LPCVD method using pure Al, compound metal. poly-si, as a gate metal, the result of the research was shown that the work function difference from using different gate metals effects on the flatband voltage shift. This means we can infer that the threshold voltage adjustment is possible by using different gate metals and this whole mechanism makes the devices behavior more stable.
Much research efforts have been made on the structure and properties of metals deformed to severe plastic deformation (SPD). Being deformed to SPD, ultra-fine grains (UFG) are usually formed, and UFG structure exhibits fundamental differences in original physical properties. One method often used to obtain SPD is equal channel angular pressing (ECAP). In order for this technique to be exploited, it is important to understand the deformation behavior during the ECAP processing with respect to friction. The finite element method (FEM) has been used to investigate this issue.
The corrosion behavior of metals and alloys for the safety of offshore structures in seawater was investigated for the application of sacrificial anodes. The experiments were focused on the polarization behaviors and the surface morphology of each metal after experiments. Pure Zn, pure Al (Al1050), Al alloys (Al5052, Al6061), Mg alloys (AZ31, AZ91D) and steel (SCM440) were assessed in 3.5% sodium chloride solution by means of potentiodynamic polarization to verify the galvanic corrosion potential ($E_{couple}$). Potentiostat plots were plotted to compare the surface and corrosion current density ($i_{couple}$) of metals as sacrificial anodes in seawater to protect steel alloy as a cathode. Al alloys showed the best performance as a sacrificial anode, on the other hand, Mg alloys showed overprotection behavior. The surface morphologies of sacrificial anodes were observed by FESEM and compared.
