  • An analysis model is proposed for the performance prediction of typical ball and tube type mechanical crash sensors based upon mass-spring-viscous gas damping idealization. Also a construction of mechanical crash pulse generator is suggested as an experimental tool for calibration and verification of model predictions. A sensor tuning procedure for a particular set of crash pulses is suggested based upon the analysis model and the experimental tools.

  • This paper describes the development and testing results of a high density High Voltage Power Supply (HVPS) that drives microwave Traveling Wave Tubes (TWTs) of phased array transmitters for airborne EW systems. The HVPS is designed to consist of a number of modules connected in series. Among them, especially, the high-density pulse transformer module including the resonant circuit is newly designed to make the HVPS much more reliable. In addition, this paper describes the development of high voltage solid-state modulation using fast switching devices (FETs) and also represents the test results of a modulator module.

  • The Impingement of a weak shock wave discharged from the open end of a shock tube upon a flat plate was investigated using shock tube experiments and numerical simulations. Harten-Yee Total Variation Diminishing method was used to solve axisymmetric, unsteady, compressible flow governing equations. Computations predicted the experimented results with a good accuracy. The peak pressure on the flat plate was not strongly dependent of the shock wave Mach number in the present range of Mach Number from 1.05 to 1.20. The distance between the plate and shock tube was changed to investigate the effect on the peak pressure. From both the results of experiments and computations we obtained a good empirical equation to predict the peak pressure on the flat plate.

  • A method to test thin-walled tubes by guided ultrasonic wave is reported. The principle is that applicate two types of axially symmetric ultrasonic tube modes and "longitudinal" modes with particle displacement, which is coupled in axial and radial directions for transverse failures and torsional modes, oscillating in the circumferential direction only, for longitudinal failures. Both types of modes propagate along the tube in the axial direction. Therefore, a pulse-echo technique is possible. The pulses are excited and received at one end of the tube without contact electro-dynamic transducers. As soon as the tubes is put into a transducer coil at one end, the test of the whole tube can be accomplished in a few milliseconds. It is not necessary to rotate and transport the tubes during the test.

  • A pulse measurement by tonometry provides useful information for diagnosis, including not only blood pressure and heart rate but also parameters for estimating a condition of the cardiovascular system. Currently, various pulse measurement devices based on the tonometry have been developed. A reliability of these devices is determined by a positioning technic between the sensor and the blood vessel and a controlling technique of the pressurization level. An angle of the sensor for the pulse measurement seems to be highly related with a measured signal, however, the objective studies for this issue have been not published. In this paper, the variation of the pulse signals by tonometry direction was experimentally assessed according to the angle of the sensor. In order for guaranteeing the repeatability of the experiment, we used a pulse generator device, which can generate human pulse signal by using silicon tube and fluid pump, and developed a structure for precise adjustment of the angle and the pressurization level of the sensor. The angle of the sensor was acquired by an inclinometer, which was attached at the opposite side of the sensor. As results, a coefficient of variation (CV) of a maximum amplitude (MA) of the pulse wave was largely increased over the angle range of $-9{\sim}9^{\circ}$. Furthermore, the changes of the pulse shape showed different aspects according to the sign of the angle tilted along the blood vessel. It is expected that the results of this study can be helpful for developing more precise pulse measurement devices based on the tonometry and applying in clinic.

  • The main purpose of this study was to identify the effect of hand massage on pain and anxiety related to chest tube removal in patients with a lobectomy. The research design of this study was a nonequivalent control group non-synchronized design. Of the twenty nine adult subjects, fourteen were assigned to the experimental group and fifteen to the control group. The data were obtained over 3 months from a medical center in Seoul. The instruments used to assess trait state anxiety was the Spielberger Trait-State anxiety Inventory. For pain and psychological anxiety. The Visual Analogue Scale was used. Hiko analogue sphygmo-manometer(2001) was used to check blood pressure and pulse rate as indicators of physiological anxiety Subjects in the experimental group received hand massage for 5 minutes just before chest tube was removed, and subjects assigned to the control group did not receive hand massage. Data were analysed with $x^2$-test and Mann-Whitney U test using the SPSSWIN 10.0 program. The results of the study are as follows : 1. Hypothesis 1: 'there will be a significant difference between two groups in the level of pain after chest tube removal' was supported (u = 23.00, p < 0.001). 2. Hypothesis 2: 'there will be a significant difference between the two groups in the level of psychological anxiety after chest tube removal' was supported (u = 3.00, p < 0.001). 3. Hypothesis 3: 'there will be a significant difference between the two groups in physiological anxiety(systolic, diastolic blood pressure and pulse rate) after chest tube removal' was supported(u =55.50, p = 0.01 ; u = 41.50, p = 0.01 ; u = 20.50, p < 0.001, relatively). The findings of this study indicate that hand massage is effective for pain and anxiety related to chest tube removal in patients with lobectomy. Therefore, hand massage is recommended as an effective nursing intervention for relieving pain and anxiety in patients undergoing chest tube removal. Further research is needed to identify the proper duration and timing to achieve the optimal effect of hand massage. A larger subject population is required to apply the current findings to the general population. Further research is also needed to assess the effects of hand massage in other patient subsets. Finally, it would be interesting to see if the effects of hand massaging would be attenuated when performed by a non-medical specialist.

  • We demonstrate a simple pulsed $CO_2$ laser with millisecond long pulse duration in a tube at a low pressure of less than 30 Torr. The novel power supply for our laser system switches the voltage of the AC power line (60Hz) directly. The power supply doesn't need elements such as a rectifier bridge, energy-storage capacitors, or a current-limiting resistor in the discharge circuit. To control the laser output power, the pulse repetition rate is adjusted up to 60Hz and the firing angle of SCR(Silicon Controlled Rectifier) gate is varied from 30。 to 150。. A ZCS (Zero Crossing Switch) circuit and a PIC one-chip microprocessor are used to control precisely the gate signal of the SCR. The maximum laser output of 35 W is obtained at a total pressure of 18 Torr, a pulse repetition rate of 60 Hz, and a SCR gate firing angle of 90。 . In addition, the resulting laser pulse width is approximately 3㎳(FWHM). This is a relatively long pulse width, compared with other repetitively pulsed $CO_2$ lasers.

  • This paper presents the DOD (Drop-On-Demand) characteristic using the electrostatic field induced inkjet printing system. In order to achieve the DOD characteristic of electrostatic field induced inkjet printing, applied the bias voltage of 1.4 kV and the pulse voltage of $2.0\;kV\;{\sim}\;2.7\;kV$ using high voltage pulse generator. Electrostatic field induced droplet ejection is directly observed using a high-speed camera and for investigated DOD characteristic, CNT ink used. The electrostatic field induced inkjet head system has DOD characteristic using pulse generator which can be applied pulse voltage. The bias voltage has a good condition which form meniscus and has micro dripping mode for small size micro droplet. Also, the droplet size decreases with increasing the applied pulse voltage. This paper shows DOD characteristic at electrostatic field induced inkjet head system, Therefore. electrostatic DOD inkjet head system will be applied industrial area comparing conventional electrostatic inkjet head system.
