  • This paper presents a white-LED driver IC for a mobile application. It uses a high efficiency current mode boost converter method for a low voltage application. For a LED drive, it provides a PWM(Pulse Width Modulation) and analog dimming function. The device was designed and fabricated using 0.35um BCD process. The evaluated waveforms for an implemented IC show promising results.

  • In comparison to the conventional brazing, laser welding of ceramics has advantages of direct bonding without filler material, which causes the thermal stress due to the differences of thermal expansion coefficients. In pulse-mode, laser welding of dispersion ceramic having high thermal resistance is possible at relatively low preheating temperature of $1300^{\circ}C$ In CW-mode, alumina can be welded at high preheating temperature $1500^{\circ}C$ under the condition of low feed rate of 500 mm/min, respectively. Further studies on developing mechanism of pores in the bead during laser welding of ceramics is required.

  • This paper introduces a new pulse-width modulation (PWM) method to reduce common-mode voltages (CMVs) and compare its performance with other reduced CMV-PWM (RCMV-PWM) methods. To avoid the use of zero-vectors which cause high CMV peaks, the introduced method splits every reference vector into two vectors such that the peak-to-peak magnitude of CMV is reduced by one-third of conventional space-vector PWM (SVPWM). The performance of RCMV-PWMs altered by the modulation index are analyzed with simulation results.

  • In a recent years, a number of approaches have been studied, including passive, active, and hybrid mode-locking of semi-conductor lasers for short pulse generation and research has been devoted to achieve low timing-jitter operation since the timing jitter is unfavorable for system applications. Among the methods of mode locking, passive mode locking does not need external rf drives, and therefore the operation and fabrication procedures are simplified. In spite of these attractive advantages of passive mode-locked laser, it has critical drawbacks such as large timing jitter and the difficulty in synchronization with external circuits. Their inherent large timing jitter value was shown to be suppressed to certain levels by means of hybrid mode-locking technique$^{(1)}$ , where the saturable absorber section was modulated by an external signal with the cavity round trip frequency. Furthermore, the subharmonic mode-locking (SHML) technique alleviates the restrictions of high speed driving electronics. It has been demonstrated experimentally$^{(1)}$ that the hybrid subharmonic mode-locking technique has lead to significant reduction of the timing jitter. (omitted)

  • In this study, a Magnetic stimulation Pulse Train control technique is introduced and applied to Flyback converter operating in discontinuous conduction mode. In contrast to the conventional pulse width modulation control scheme, the principal idea of a Magnetic stimulation Pulse Train is to achieve output voltage regulation using high and low power pulses. The proposed technique is applicable to any converter operating in discontinuous conduction. However, this work mainly focuses on Flyback topology. In this paper, the main mathematical concept of the new control algorithm is introduced and simulations as well as experimental results are presented.

  • The present paper aims to study the influence of the magnetic field and initial stress on the 2-D problem of generalized thermo-viscoelastic material with voids subject to thermal loading by a laser pulse in the context of the Lord-Shulman and the classical dynamical coupled theories. The analytical expressions for the physical quantities are obtained in the physical domain by using the normal mode analysis. These expressions are calculated numerically for a specific material and explained graphically. Comparisons are made with the results predicted by the Lord-Shulman and the coupled theories in the presence and absence of the initial stress and the magnetic field.

  • DC/DC Switching power converters are commonly used to generate regulated DC output voltages with high-power efficiencies from different DC input sources. A switching converter utilizes one or more energy storage elements such as capacitors, or transformers to efficiently transfer energy from the input to the output at periodic intervals. The fundamental boost converter studied here consists of a power metal-oxide semiconductor field effect transistor switch, an inductor, a capacitor, a diode, and a pulse-width modulation circuit with oscillator, amplifier, and comparator. A buck converter containing a switched-mode power supply is also studied. In this paper, the electrical characteristics of DC/DC power converters are simulated by simulation program with integrated circuit emphasis (SPICE). Furthermore, power efficiency was analyzed based on the specifications of each component.

  • This paper presents a lossless inductor snubber-assisted series resonant high frequency inverter using the trench gate IGBTs for the electromagnetic induction eddy current-heated fixing roller in copy and printing machines in a new generation. This soft switching high-frequency inverter can completely achieve zero current soft switching (ZCS) commutation mode transitions and wide power regulation under its constant frequency pulse density modulation (PDM) scheme. Its transient and steady state operating principle is originally presented for a constant frequency PDM strategy under a ZCS operation, together with its output power regulation characteristics-based on the pulse density modulation. The effectiveness of this soft switching high-frequency inverter is confirmed for the fixing equipment with the induction-heated fixing roller.

  • DC/DC switching power converters produce DC output voltages from different stable DC input sources regulated by a bi-polar transistor. The converters can be used in regenerative braking of DC motors to return energy back in the supply, resulting in energy savings for the systems containing frequent stops. The voltage mode DC/DC converter is composed of a PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) controller, a MOSFET (Metal Oxide Semiconductor Field Effect Transistor), an inductor, and capacitors, etc. PWM is applied to control and regulate the total output voltage. It is shown that the output of DC/DC converter depends on the variation of threshold voltage at MOSFET and the variation of pulse width. In the PWM operation, the missing pulses, the changes in pulse width, and a change in the period of the output waveform are studied by SPICE (Simulation Program with Integrated Circuit Emphasis) and experiments.
