  • In order to get more higher integration density of devices, it is getting to be used more and more micro via interconnection lines for interconnecting layers or devices. However, it is very important to enhance the electrical characteristic by reducing the electrical resistivity of micro via interconnection line because it affects the reliability of packaging. In this paper, Micro vias were patterned with a diameter from 10 to 100 um by increasing the step of 10 um and 100 um height and were fabricated by micromachining technology to investigate the electrical characteristic of micro via interconnection lines. These micro vias were filled with copper by electroplating process with appling pulse current mode. And the electrical characteristics of micro via interconnection lines were measured. The measured value of electrical resistivity shows with a range from 20 to $26\;m{\Omega}$. This value from micro via interconnection lines fabricated by pulse current mode electroplating process shows better result than the resistivity from than micro via interconnection lines fabricated by DC mode ($31\;m{\Omega}$).

  • We demonstrate a simple method to multiply the repetition rate of an optical pulse train by a fiber Fabry-Parot interferometer (FFPI) spectral filtering. A stable 40 GHz pulse train at 1550 nm is successfully generated by removing unwanted spectral components of a 10 GHz actively mode-locked laser source by passing a high finesse FFPI.

  • This paper presents a novel prototype of the utility AC power interfaced soft-switching sinewave pulse modulated inverter using the high-frequency flyback for the small scale distributed renewable energy power conditioner. The proposed cricuit with a high-frequency isolation link has a funtion of electrical isolation, which is more cost-effective and reliable for the small-scale distributed renwal energy utilization system from a safety point of riew. The discontinuous conduction mode(DCM) operation of the high-frequency flyback transformer is adopted to establish a simple and low-cost circuit configuration and control scheme. For the simplicity, the circuit operating principle is described on the basis of the modified conventional full bridge inverter, whitch is the typical conventional high-frequency full-bridge inverter employing the high requency flyback transformer to eanble the effictive function of the electrical isolation. Than, the new circuit topology of the unility-interfaced soft-switching sinewave pulse modulated inverter using IGBTs is proposed. The proposed cricuit topology is additionally composed of the auxiliary power regenerating snubber cricuits, which are also mathematically analyzed for the parameter desigen settings. Finally, the performance of the propose inverter is evaluated on the basis of computer-aid simulation. It is noted that the sinewave pulse modulated output current of the inverter is synchronous to the AC main voltage.

  • Recently many solid-state laser systems were widely used in the medical applications. So it is necessary to study various optimal laser parameters for adopting new medical treatments. Alexandrite laser using switching mode power supply has designed and experimented to adjust a pulse repetition rate by PIC one-chip microprocessor. The fundamental results have been obtained during the first financial year in 2002. We will be able to find out the optimal hair removal characteristics by the repetitive experiments of Alexandrite laser as the parameters such as pulse repetition rate, pulse width, and pulse energy etc.

  • The cavity-length detuning characteristics of the hybridly mode-locked dye laser have been studied with a collinear autocorrelator. In the optimum condition, the pulse width is 0.65 ps about three times as short as that of the synchronously mode-locked dye laser. As the cavity length is increased, the pulse width becomes broader than that at the optimum cavity length because of the effect of spontaneous emission. Also, the spectrum width becomes broad, therefore the time bandwidth product ($\Deltat\Deltav$) is increased. The peak power of autocorrelation is maximum at $\Deltat=5.0\umm$ longer than the optimum cavity length. On the other hand, as the cavity length is decreased, the pulse width becomes broader and the satellite pulses appear because of the gain recovery. Also the spectrum width becomes narrower than that at the optimum cavity length. In particular, at the mismatched cavity length the center of the lasing spectrum moves to shorter wavelengths. ngths.

  • This paper presents a carrier-based pulse-width modulation(PWM) method for reducing the common-mode voltage of a three-level four-leg converter. The idea of the proposed PWM method is intuitive and easy to be implemented in digital signal processor-based converter control systems. On the basis of the analysis of space-vector PWM(SVPWM) and sinusoidal PWM(SPWM) switching patterns, the fourth leg pole voltage of the three-phase converter called "f leg pole voltage" is manipulated to reduce the common-mode voltage. To synthesize f leg pole voltage for the suppression of the common-mode voltage, positive and negative pole voltage references of f leg are calculated. An offset voltage is also deduced to prevent the distortion of a, b, and c phase voltages. The feasibility of the proposed PWM method is verified by simulation and experimental results. The common-mode voltage of the proposed PWM method in peak-to-peak value is 33% in comparison with that of the conventional SVPWM method. The transition number of the common-mode voltage is also reduced to 25%.

  • This study describes the structure and operation modes of vertical stabilization (VS) converter for international thermonuclear experimental reactor (ITER) and proposes a protection method. ITER VS converter supplies voltage (${\pm}1000V$)/current (${\pm}22.5kA$) to superconducting magnets for plasma current vertical stabilization. A four-quadrant operation must be achieved without zero-current discontinuous section. The operation mode of the VS converter is separated in 12-pulse mode, 6-pulse mode and circulation current mode according to the magnitude of the load current. Protection measures, such as bypass and discharge, are proposed for abnormal conditions, such as over current, over voltage, short circuit, and voltage sag. VS converter output voltage is controlled to satisfy voltage response time within 20 msec. Bypass operation is completed within 60 msec and discharge operation is performed successfully. The feasibility of the proposed control algorithm and protection measure is verified by assembling a real controller and implementing a power system including the VS converter in RTDS for a hardware-in-loop (HIL) facility.
