  • ITO/Ag/ITO conductive films on PET (polyethylene terephthalate) was etched by a Q-switched diode-pumped neodymiun-doped yttrium vanadate (Nd:YVO4, ${\lambda}=1064nm$) laser. During the laser direct etching, the laser beam was incident on the two different directions of PET and the etching patterns were investigated and analyzed. At a lower repetition rate of laser pulse, the larger laser etched patterns were obtained by laser beam incident on reverse side of PET substrate. On the contrary, at a higher repetition rate, it was possible to find the larger etched patterns in case of the laser beam incidence on forward side of PET substrate. For the laser beam incidence on reverse side, the laser beam is expected to be transferred and scattered through the PET substrate and the laser beam energy is thought to be dependent on the etch laser pulse beam energy.

  • Pulsed Nd:YAG laser is used widely for materials processing and instrumentation. It is very important to control the laser energy density in materials processing by a pulsed Nd:YAG laser. A pulse repetition rate and a pulse width are regarded as the most dominant factors to control the energy density of laser beam. In this study, the alternating charge-discharge system was designed to adjust a pulse repetition rate. And the parallel mesh is added to increase laser output power. This system is controlled by one chip microprocessor and allows to replace an expensive condenser for high frequency to a cheap condenser for low frequency. In addition, we have investigated the current pulse shape of flashlamp and the operating characteristics of a pulsed Nd:YAG laser. As a result, it is found that the laser output of the power supply using the parallel mesh and the alternating charge-discharge system is not less than that of typical power supply. As the pulse repetition rate rises from 10pps to 110pps by the step of 20pps at 1000V and 1200V, it is found that the laser efficiency decreases but the laser output power increases about 5W at each step.

  • In this paper, we propose a simulator to evaluate the performance of the semi-active laser guidance or the quadrant photodetector and to simulate the laser power reflected from a target. The laser pulse repetition frequency was generated and synchronized with the laser pulse repetition(PRF) code. To evaluate the performances of the proposed methods, we implemented a prototype system and performed experiments. As a result, the generated high voltage was variable in the range of DC 3V to 340V and has the rate of change of 2000 V/s. PRF code can be generated within 50ms ∼ 100ms and the error is implemented within 0.3ns. The laser output is synchronized with the PRF code and has a dynamic range of 23.6dB.

  • A connection between pulse-periodical laser radiation power and stability of liquid-metal contacts between powder particles during selective laser sintering (SLS) is determined based on analysis solving the problem of stability of liquid column in the gravity and capillary forces field. On the grounds of obtained relationships the optimization of pulse-periodical laser radiation power and SLS-process duration is realized, that allows to produce voluminous powder porous materials with pre-determined physical and mechanical properties and surface geometry. Results of metallographic investigations of powder porous materials of titanium powder produced with technological regimes calculated by means of obtained relationships are given in the work

  • The pulsed Nd:YAG laser is the most commonly used type of solid-state laser in many fields. In material processing and medical treatment, the power density control of a laser beam Considered to be significant, which depends on the flashlamp current pulse width and pulse repetition rate. For general laser power supply to control the laser power density, the secondary of the power transformer is connected to the rectifier and filter capacitor. The output of a rectifier is applied to a switching element in the secondary of the transformer. So power supply is complicated and the loss of switching is considerably. In addition, according to increasing pulse repetition rate, charged energy of energy-storage capacitor bank is not transferred sufficiently to flashlamp, and laser output efficiency decreases. In this study, we have ...

  • A Kerr cell was utilized as an optical shutter to generate a shortened pulse and as an isolator between amplifiers in an iodine laser system. By rotating the polarization of incident laser pulse only during the timing window of high voltage applied to the Kerr cell, shortened pulses of 5 ns and 1 ns, corresponding to the difference in propagation time of two coaxial cables, were obtained. It was also noticed that more than one timing window of Kerr cell was produced with a long incident laser pulse from the oscillator. The measured transmittance of Kerr cell with respect to applied voltage was compared with the theoretical estimation using the electro-optic Kerr effect theory. Through the amplification of the shortened pulse in iodine amplifiers. a pulse of 0.5 GW(2 J in 4 ns) was obtained. ained.

  • This experiment was performed to confirm the hypothesis that LLLT had biostimulation effect for all kinds of cells and there would be differences in the growth of cells among different types of pulsed laser. 360 samples were used in this study. The samples were randomly divided in 6 groups according to the pulse type : quasi continuous type (CW), pulse 1(P1), pulse 7(P7), pulse 9(P9), pulse 15(P15) and shame-irradiated control(Co) groups. Energy fluences of all experimental groups, P1, P7, P9, P15 and CW were 2.12, 2.12, 6.37, 57.32 and 31.85 mj/cm2 respectively. All samples were irradiated for every 1 minute at 0, 12, 24, 36, 48 and 60 hours. Ten samples of each group were sacrificed at 0 and every 12 hours and then the optical density of all samples was measured with the spectrophotometer. As a result, some types of pulses showed significant differences among groups. The increase of cells were markedly stimulated with laser irradiation in P7 and P9 groups, while inhibited in CW, P1, and P15 groups compared with control group. It is therefore, suggested that specific laser pulse should be recommanded to have the biostimulation effects on the specific tissue or cells, although the biostimulation effect is does dependant.

  • The blast wave released during the initiation of energetic materials gives rise to pulse energy generation, characterized by a sudden increase of potential energy. A highly efficient energy source, sought from pulse-type lasers, may be utilized in various space propulsion and power applications. This paper introduces a scheme of utilizing the laser energy in 1) attitude control of a satellite requiring of a low thrust, 2) innovative laser-induced drug delivery, 3) implosion-based micro piston development, 4) deflecting and zapping of space debris for laser kill purpose, and 5) finally lunar detection using laser induced breakdown spectroscopy.

  • Picosecond lasers are a very effective tool for micromachining metals, especially when high accuracy, high surface roughness and no heat affected zone are required. However, low productivity has been a limit to broadening the spectrum of their industrial applications. Recently it was reported that in the micromachining of copper with a 1064nm picosecond laser, there exist the optimal pulse energy and repetition rate to achieve the maximum volume ablation rate. In this paper, we used a 515nm picosecond laser, which is more efficient for micromachining copper in terms of laser energy absorption, to obtain its optimal pulse energy and repetition rate. Theoretical analysis based on the experimental data on copper ablation showed that using a 515nm picosecond laser instead of a 1064nm picosecond laser is more favorable in that the calculated threshold fluence is 75% lower and optical penetration depth is 50% deeper.

  • [ $Al_[2}O_{3}$ ] ceramics are generally used as components in processing equipment, devices or machinery. But it's difficult to machining as being machanical because $Al_[2}O_{3}$ ceramics are brittle materials. This study described a basic study of the input parameters effect on the dimension of the microhole at the $Al_[2}O_{3}$ ceramics using Nd:YAG laser. Major input parameters are peak power, pulse frequency and pulse duration in the laser microhole machining of $Al_[2}O_{3}$ ceramics. We will get a smaller microhole and diameter rate by an appropriate peak power, pulse duration.
