  • The differentiation of this study is largely based on the above discussion. First, I would like to examine the main factors that affect the image of the local government's special transport agencies in terms of users and suggest strategic options for promoting the local government's special traffic. Second, a public service approach is very necessary considering the concept of new public transport such as local government special transport, individual use experience and social impact. The purpose of this study is to demonstrate the characteristics of local government special traffic through the five important factors of the service quality which are not capable of objectively measuring the characteristics of the service.

  • In this study, we propose an improved group location tracking scheme (GLS) called integrated GLS (IGLS) which, in addition to the group location registration of the GLS, sends an integrated group registration message to a virtual visitor location register (VVLR) instead of sending an individual group registration message. This integrated procedure of proposed scheme leads registration cost of group registration and group location registration to be reduced significantly. Numerical results demonstrate that our proposed IGLS outperforms conventional GLS and delayed GLS (dGLS). The IGLS can be applied effectively on public transportation systems such as subway, train and bus.

  • Dynamic route guidance (DRG) finds the fastest path from a source to a destination location considering the real-time congestion information. In Korea, the traffic state information is available by the public transportation data (PTD) which is indexed on top of the node-link map (NLM). While the NLM is the authoritative low-detailed road network for major roads only, the OpenStreetMap road network (ORN) supports not only a high-detailed road network but also a few open-source routing engines, such as OSRM and Valhalla. In this paper, we propose a DRG framework based on road network matching between the NLM and ORN. This framework regularly retrieves the NLM-indexed PTD to construct a historical speed profile which is then mapped to ORN. Next, we extend the Valhalla routing engine to support dynamic routing based on the historical speed profile. The numerical results at the Yeoui-do island with collected 11-month PTD show that our DRG framework reduces the travel time up to 15.24 % and improves the estimation accuracy of travel time more than 5 times.

  • Background: Air pollution is increasing together with industrialization and urbanization. In order to reduce air pollution, public transportation is recommended rather than private cars, and the number of passengers using public transportation is increasing accordingly. This study observes the concentration of indoor pollutants in city buses over time. Through this means, we intend to suggest a plan to manage the indoor air quality in city buses. Objectives: The concentration of indoor pollution in public transportation was investigated from April 2021 to January 2022. Based on this, we evaluated the exposure to indoor pollutants. Methods: Six city bus lines in an industrial city were selected for the research, and indoor pollution was measured through IoT (Internet of Things)-based sensor-type measuring devices. The concentration of pollutants was measured every minute, and statistical data were constructed based on the measurement results. Results: In all the city buses studied, the average concentration of pollutants were below the guidelines. However, some measurement results showed cases of exceeding the guidelines. As a result of the analysis by time zone, there were more cases in which pollutants exceeded the standard value during rush hour compared to at other times. A risk assessment for PM10 was performed by evaluating the excess mortality risk from exposure and the risk from inhalation exposure. Conclusions: All measured indoor pollutants in the city buses did not exceed the guidelines. Also, the risk assessment results were found to be within the level of safety. However, if a city bus is used for a long time, there is a possibility that there may be an impact on the human body due to inhalation exposure, so additional management is required.

  • Public transportation card data, which is collected for purposes of the Integrated Public Transportation Fare System, provides neither transfer time nor transfer frequency occurring on the metropolitan city-rail (MCR). And because there are no transfer toll gates installed on the MCR, data on transfers between lines are estimated through means such as elicitations using survey questionnaire, or otherwise through macroscopic observations, which poses the risk of transfer time and frequencies being underestimated. For the accurate estimation thereof, an explanation of the transit path that arises between the Entry-and Exit-Gates must be provided. The purpose of this research is twofold : 1) to build a transit path model to reflect the current state of transfer movements on the basis of transportation card reader data, and 2) to deduce information on transfers occurring in the greater metropolis. To achieve these aims, the idea of Big Nodes is introduced in the model to align transportation card reader operation system characteristics with those of the MCR network. The link-label method is applied in the model as well to make certain that the MCR network runs in an effective manner. Administrative information obtained by the transportation card reader is used to derive transfer time and frequency both in the city's mid-zones, and in the Seoul-Gyeonggi-Incheon district's large-zones. Public transportation card data from a single specific day in year 2014 is employed in the building of the quantified transfer specific data. Extended usage thereof as providing comprehensive data of transfer resistance on the MCR is also examined.

  • Major approaches of Social epidemiology; 1)holistic, ecological approach, 2)population based approach, 3)development and life-course approach, 4)contextual multi-level approach, have stressed the importance of not only social context of health and illness, but also the population based strategy in the health interventions. Ultimately, it provides the conceptual guidelines and methodological tools to lead toward the healthy public policies; integrated efforts to improve condition which people live: secure, safe, adequate, and sustainable livelihoods, lifestyles, and environments, including housing, education, nutrition, information exchange, child care, transportation, and necessary community and personal social and health services.

  • This study is to identify the factors affecting commuting time and modes in urban and rural areas using household traffic survey data. The findings indicated that commuting time using passenger car in rural areas was 1.6 times longer than those in urban areas. When citizen use public transportation, however, there was not much difference in commuting time in urban and rural areas. Among the various factors affecting commuting time in rural areas (13 factors have statistical significance), the most influential factors were that public transportation, managers and office workers, functional and device managers, and passenger car. In urban areas, the highly influential factors were public transportation and walking among the 16 affecting factors which have statistical significance. The commuting time in rural areas increased according to the occupation types, but the commuting time of full-time workers decreased. This phenomenom means that occupation groups with the full-time system prefer residential areas in the densely populated town.

  • Downtown cities in Japan are facing sharp fall in customers and continued shut down of shops due to decrease of population, increase in family cars and flowing of customers into the suburban large-scale retail stores. Omura City in Nagasaki Prefecture, Japan is no exception to this. For the revitalization of the downtown, many actions have been taken to open the vacant shops. However, transportation problem is the most important one to be solved for the citizens including the elderly people having difficulty in movement. Accordingly, this study was aimed at the revitalization of the downtown by substantiality public transportation. We have attempted to develop routes from the view-point of convenience by using Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) and Geographic Information Systems (GIS). As a result of the study, we were able to select three bus transportation areas by incorporating qualitative factors into the analysis. Finally, the study concluded that, revitalization activities of the downtown city itself is required in addition to re-structuring of bus transportation system for the revitalization of the downtown city.
