  • The disabled suffer great difficulties from public library access and data use due to reasons such as disabilities, mobility limitations, and lack of alternative materials and services. To overcome this, through outreach services for the disabled, public libraries should meet the multiple needs of people with disabilities. As such, the purpose of this study is to derive suitable strengthening plans of outreach services based on the size of the targeted user and disability type by analyzing outreach service operation practices in libraries in Korea and overseas and by researching and analyzing the status and awareness of outreach services for the disabled in Korean public libraries.

  • Astronomical outreach activities for the general public who are unfamiliar to astronomy is a challenging task. It requires creative thinking to solve the problem. The amateur astronomical clubs in a number of cities in Indonesia routinely schedule observations at public parks. The interaction between these clubs and formal education institutions is established by face to face interaction and assisted by social media. The physics teachers who took astronomy courses in university are potential resources to enlarge the outreach scope by creating astronomical clubs as an extracurricular activity. Recent progressive trends in astronomy dissemination for the disabled are also a great opportunity to assist the disabled in experiencing hands-on activities based on formal and informal education.

  • We here report on the outreach activity using the Keio University Internet telescope performed by Science agora 2012 and 2013 in Tokyo. Many visitors came to our booth and operated the Keio University Internet telescope, and our project was awarded the prize of the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology. In addition, based on the questionnaire for that occasion, the usefulness of the Internet telescopes in outreach activities is considered.

  • In recent years, many users preferred video records, and as the broadcasting video data becomes necessary, the demand for video records' use has increased. However, most broadcasters' archive agencies currently provide archive services only for internal employees, and for the general public. In this study, the web-based online information services provided to the general public in the archive sites of domestic and foreign public broadcasting companies were examined and analyzed. The evaluation criteria for the web-based records information services were identified in three service areas: online accessibility, search and online browsing, and outreach or expansion services. The overseas public broadcasters' web-based services and the public broadcasting companies' current status were examined for each area. Based on the examination, direction improvements, such as providing online search and records, developing various outreach services, and expanding user levels were proposed for the information services on broadcasting video data in public broadcasting companies for the general public.

  • The Physics Outreach Unit at UNSW Australia contributes to the goals of the IAU's Commission 55 by collaborating with established institutions to improve public engagement with science. We aim to not only increase public awareness of astronomy but also ensure the benefits to society of our scientific endeavours are understood. We have found collaborating with like-minded institutions who are working in similar spaces allows both parties to make a larger impact than working alone. For example, our long-term collaboration with the Australian Museum provides the opportunity to engage urban and rural communities with science, audiences to which we do not normally have easy access. To increase our national presence we are exploring new relationships with other institutions, in particular the Astronomical Society of Australia (ASA), in hosting events such as public talks with eminent astronomers, star parties and astronomical workshops. These partnerships help build firm foundations for planning future events, in particular during the International Year of Light 2015.

  • Purpose: This study aimed at identifying the factors affecting the service satisfaction of urban elderly, focusing on the outreach community health service in Seoul, and suggesting policy directions for the successful implementation of community care. Method: Individuals aged 65 and 70 who used the outreach community health service from July 2017 to June 2019 were eligible for the survey. A total of 2,028 people were sampled using a proportional allocation method for each autonomous district in the survey which covered 25 districts. A multi-level logistic regression analysis was conducted, taking into account the individual's socioeconomic level, health status, type of service provided, and the healthcare-related environment and service provision period of the autonomous district. Result: The results revealed that the health status of the urban elderly, the type of services provided (health screening, linkage to community health center and clinic/hospital, medical checkup results counseling, frailty evaluation), and personal experience of the service were the major factors associated with the satisfaction with the outreach health services. Conclusion: The development of customized health services based on the close relationship between visiting nurses and the elderly may be considered to promote a sustainable community health care model.

  • The purpose of this study is to carry out a comparative analysis of Korean and US Sea Grant College Program (SGCP). The important lesson learned from the US SGCP is that ocean policy requires active interaction among public and oceans since oceans are far from constituents, law makers and government officials. Also, Sea Grant Program (SGP) should be based on universities so as to facilitate the use of equipment and expertise, there is a need for a well-organized control system, legislative mandates and strong government financial support, and sea grant activities must be well combined with regional/local outreach, education and research at the appropriate level.
