Cooperation with public libraries for strengthening the solid foundation and the reading education of school library have been recommended in Korea. However with the immensity of the task, public libraries are under considerable pressure for the unilateral support. Under these circumstances this study developed and implemented the reading mentoring programs for school libraries with the help of public libraries, LIS schools, and Busan Metropolitan office of Education. On the basis of the result, this study analyzed the effect and the feasibility of the reading mentoring programs for improving the reading education in school libraries. This study emphasized to derive a lesson of immeasurable value from 7 months' experience in the 2 elementary schools.

The purpose of this study was attempted to investigate the social opinion and their lives and jobs of the public library directors in Korea. The author attained data through questionaires by mail to about 180 directors of public libraries. The Major finding of this study are summarized as follows： 1) The more or higher the director"s revenue and degree of satisfaction for his/her revenur, and rich feeling in content for his/her job, the higher he/she recognize his/her social class. 2) Although many directors make it their principles to support for females to go to work. 87.4% of them also recognize the existence of discrimination by sex in attainment of their job positions. 3) Female directors feel more discriminated than male directors. Male are rather supporting or neutral for those discriminations. 4) The obstracles for conducting their jobs are insufficiency of budget for libraries. insufficiency of their job powers and so forth. 5) The Most disirable type of library directors is the mixed nature of type of research specialist and administrative specialist. Only the research talent is not sufficient for a library director and the administrative specialty is also strongly expected to the director.ctor.

Regional central library have to reflect the characteristics of the each region. And it must to set priority the various tasks. The purpose of this study is to investigate and analyze the librarian's recognition about roles of regional central library for support to the local libraries. As a result, librarians was recognized the direction of library policy and cooperation between the local libraries as the most urgent task. Also, librarians was considered the educational and cultural programs and interlibrary loan as the top task to perform in the future. The results is very useful in deciding contents of library cooperation and establishing of the Library Policy.

The aim of this study is to investigate current status of archiving activities related to producing, collecting and managing information resources of multicultural agencies and organizations in Dae Gu. To do this, 12 agencies and organizations including Multicultural Team of Dae Gu, multicultural family support centers, foreign worker support center, NGOs for immigrants and public libraries were visited. As a result, these agencies and organizations have struggled for producing information resources through online and off-line, collecting information resources from external bodies and managing information resources like official documents, counseling reports, multicultural books and artifacts. But there were problems in archiving information resources. In order to solve problems, first, multicultural agencies and organizations should reinforce responsibilities to produce, collect and manage information resources. Second, public libraries should actively try to collect and organize information resources from these agencies and organizations. Finally, cooperative archiving activities between multicultural agencies and organizations and public libraries are needed.

This study aims to investigate the problems in conducting the first year project of a five-year school library revitalization project and to suggest the alterative to the present system for the following years. The method of evaluation was to visit the 16 local ministries of education and to interview the government school inspectors, school principals, teachers-in-chief, teacher librarians and parents. The evaluation was conducted based on the following criteria； school library facilities and increase in collection, enrichment of education W through school library, location of manpower and enhancement of profession and building the cooperation system with the private and public sectors. Additionally, school library service training and library support system were evaluated.

This study proposes to analyze the concept and introduction of infinite creative space (makerspace) to redefine the roles of existing library spaces. This study also attempts to formulate a suitable program for public library makerspaces by analyzing case studies. Literature review and case study methods are used for deriving the makerspace concept, the evolution of makerspace, the implications posed by makerspace operation domestically and abroad, and the utilization of makerspace. Finally, we suggest story creation programs, topic-based programs reflecting the library characteristics, professional mentoring programs, expert consulting programs, various training programs, patent application support programs, incubator programs, and so on.

Since 2010, the itinerant librarian project has aimed to support small libraries and to establish cooperative systems between public libraries and small libraries. However, the project has been criticized for several issues, although there are some positive evaluations. In this context this study aims to analyze various issues of the project and to provide alternative strategies. Based on analyzing previous studies the study discusses the concept and social background of itinerant librarians. Furthermore, it explores the issues of the project, including low awareness and employment instability of itinerant librarians through the interviews with participants of the project. As a result, the study provides six alternative strategies to improve the project.

Recently, small libraries have greatly increased by the support and interest of the central, or local government. Since 2004, 47 small libraries were established in Jeon-buk province. These libraries are equipping a new facility and collection with their support. Nevertheless, they still have many problems in operating process. This is causing degradation of the quality level of information service for local residents, further, this becomes the obstacle which solves a information divide and improves the cultural welfare. The purpose of this study is to analyze the status of small libraries in Jeon-buk province, and then, to propose solutions to problems.

Today's public libraries in communities are on the processes of changes to integrate information and communication technology into traditional library system in order to support current users' demands for the new digital era. The purpose of this study is to examine the changing characters on space design and space uses of community based public libraries by conducting case studies of three branch libraries which were built after 2004 in Ann Arbor, Michigan in the United States. As the conclusion of this research, the findings of the case studies are utilized as basic data for planning and design guidelines for public libraries as community resources. The study summarizes the characteristics of space design and space uses in public libraries as follow; first, the floor plans of small-scale public libraries are open visually as well as spatially. The space organization of the libraries is arranged by potential noise levels, as placing noisy spaces near the entrance halls and quiet spaces at the back. Main book shelves are located in the middle of the library buildings, while seats are arranged along the window sides. By placing various kinds of furniture in open reading areas, library users can select different types of seats and tables for their comforts. Second. the survey of observation also finds that a large number of users often use library computers and personal computers to connect the internet at the libraries. These personal computer users who are new user group in community based libraries preferred to sit in casual study areas and individual tables with one or two seats only. Third, the libraries, in addition, develop and provide various programs and events for people in communities. Especially, the programs for children, the elderly and new comers from the abroad are well prepared, thus provide opportunities for them to visit the libraries in regular bases. The survey finds that family entertainment and leisure activities are the important parts of the program as well as renting music CD and movie DVD are also important reasons for people to come. Thus, the libraries prepare high quality children's space and CD shelves near the entrance hall.

Many local governments in Korea have competitively shown great interests in establishing and operating public libraries and carried out various projects. With this, an increasing number of local governments have recently established and implemented medium- and long-term development plans for their public libraries, based mostly on the findings from researches committed to the outside experts. Cheongju City has formulated the First Medium- and Long-Term Development Plan for Public Libraries in Cheongju City (2012-2016) in 2011 and the Second Plan (2017-2021) in 2016. The goal of this study is to help accomplish the planned goals of the Second Plan by conducting an interim check on the current state of execution and content of the Second Plan. To reach the research goals, first, we identified the outcome and limitations of the First Plan, as previously carried out. Second, we analyzed the trend in the change of the cultural environments of public libraries in Cheongju City. Third and lastly, we reviewed the promotion strategy and operation outcome of the Second Plan. In particular, this study focused on the expansion of an organizational structure, the reinforcement of professional workforce, and the increase in budgetary support as the core elements required for developing public libraries in Cheongju City.
