This research seeks to provide evidence about how political connections, proxied by government ownership and the existence of politically connected board members, affect the extent of corporate social responsibility (CSR) disclosures in Indonesian listed companies. This research uses the legitimacy theory as a basis for explaining management's motivation for disclosing its CSR. The sample consists of 131 firm-year observations from 38 non-financial public companies that published sustainability reports from 2013 to 2017. We measured the CSR disclosures using a disclosure checklist on the sustainability reports. We subsequently processed the data using a random effect (RE) linear regression. The result shows that CSR disclosures were greater in government-owned companies but lower in companies that have politically connected board members. The results support the legitimacy theory that the government intends to demonstrate legitimate national economic and political conditions by showing that government-owned companies are sustainable. However, CSR disclosures seem to have a substitutive relationship with the existence of politically connected board members, since those political connections may protect the company from public pressure and/or the risk of litigation, reducing the need for CSR disclosures. This research provides evidence that different types of political connections may have different impacts on corporate disclosures.
The involuntary delisting of public companies has a detrimental effect on economies caused by the loss of stock value and confidence in the capital market. Previous studies have focused on prediction or prevention models for firm delisting events using various financial and accounting information. However, the timely disclosure of companies, another important indicator, has not been investigated before in connection with companies that have been delisted. To address this gap, this study investigates the timely disclosure behavior of companies prior to delisting using sample firms listed on the Korean stock market between 2000 and 2014. The results show a significant correlation between the frequency of timely disclosure and delisted firms prior to their delisting on the Korean stock market. The delisted companies appear to increase their timely disclosure to deliver specific information to the public. Furthermore, these companies are likely to increase the frequency of timely disclosure as they get closer to their delisting. Notably, the timely disclosure of delisted firms has a capital market effect; namely, timely disclosure increases trading volume while decreasing the market value of the shares, reflecting price efficiency. This study appears to be the first that considers timely disclosure in the involuntary delisting literature.

High-profile corporate crises have sparked a surge in interest in corporate governance (CG) and corporate reputation (CR). Company governance issues in many companies contribute to corporate failures and a bad reputation. Transparency is the glue that holds any group or organization together while also connecting it to a coalition of key stakeholders. This research focuses on how corporate governance factors (such as board independence, board size, board meetings, and board gender) and company characteristics affect the reputation of Malaysian public listed companies (PLCs). Many studies have looked into the characteristics of corporate governance in Malaysian businesses. However, none of the research has explored this issue using the new reputation measurement. A sample of the 100 largest companies listed on Bursa Malaysia based on their market capitalization for the year ended 2018 was selected. A new measurement, the disclosure index, was created and used to analyze reputation disclosure in the annual report of a corporation. The independent director, board size, and board meeting were statistically significant and associated with the level of reputation disclosure, according to the findings of this study. The results suggest that company directors prioritize good governance and management quality to boost their firm's reputation and acquire a competitive edge.
Corporate Social Responsibility(CSR) is considered recently a key factor for the firm's success and sustainable growth in today's changing business environments. Discussions on CSR are extensively unfolding in various sectors, public, civil society and business organizations, across the world. Consumer in foreign markets have been insisted that multinational corporations and foreign supplier need to adapt their business activities to not only the economic, but also social needs of the consumer. Therefore Korean companies operating in global markets need their global CSR strategy, which will contribute to the improvement of their international competitiveness and long term growth. Thus, the purpose of this study is to report on the strategy of corporate social responsibility through the literature review and illustration of CSR activities of the leading companies in global market. In addition, this paper is aimed to provide Korean firms the insight in reinforcement of global competitiveness in relation of strategic CSR.
Even though social intervention in child abuse has begun in Korean society, there are many problems in terms of basic principles of child welfare services. Focusing on the principle of family preservation in child welfare services, this comparative study reviewed services for abused children and their families in the USA and Sweden. Results indicated directions for effective services for abused children are comprehensive and should be provided by community resources. Comprehensive services and follow-up of reported cases should be managed by public agencies and community networks. Education curricula for professionals and inter-disciplinary collaboration should be organized. A most important task in the future is to set up firm laws and policies for effective services in Korean society.
In a day and age when contemporary businesses are transformed, driven by a service-dominance logic and dependent upon IT, we need to understand how firms cope with technological adaptations and how such technological adaptations can lead to service adaptations. Drawing on a framework on technological transitions and an interpretive longitudinal case study of the services provided by a team within a large public IT firm, this article addresses the following questions : How do service transitions come about? Can we distinguish particular patterns in service transition processes? This research unveils how technological and social dimensions mutually constitute each other within development and implementation of service provisioning. The findings show how:(a) IT plays a fundamental role in service provisioning; (b) technological transitions are the necessary but insufficient preconditions for service transitions; and (c) there are attenuation effects when it comes to the move from technology transition to service transition.
This paper documents how the net profit margin of private firms improves when the CEOs of the companies relocate their primary residence to be closer to the corporate headquarters. By reviewing 127 Korean non-public companies belonging to 66 private business groups, we find that the top managers move closer to the headquarters when the profitability of the firms has recently deteriorated. A one basis point decline in the margin causes CEOs to relocate their homes approximately two kilometers closer to their corporate headquarters. The profit margin rebounds after their relocation. This finding implies that physical proximity can serve as a proxy for personal commitment.
This paper reviews studies on potential health effects of electric and magnetic fields at extremely low frequencies(ELF). Recent studies focus on the epidemiological investigation of cancer, reproductive outcome and neurobehavioral effects due to residential and occupational exposure to ELF. Laboratory experiments are also carried out to find the possible mechanism of biological effects of ELF. Firm conclusion regarding whether ELF cause cancer are not yet conclusive but suggestive and other health effects of exposure to ELF have also been suggested but the evidence is even weaker than that related to cancer.

The paper explores determinants of corporate adoption of social media and the role of technology acceptance model in the path. This paper assimilates some components of the technology acceptance dimension and social expectation theories to determine corporate intentions to use social media. Six hundred and forty-eight samples collected from hotel staff in Korea are analyzed using factor analysis, structural equation model techniques and one-way analysis of variance. The results show that corporate needs, social expectations, ease of use and usefulness should be viewed as important antecedents explaining the firm's behavioral intention to use social media. The study also finds that the ease of use and usefulness of the technology acceptance model have positive directional mediation effects in the path diagram.
