Implementing Character Education in the Family and Consumer Sciences Education Curriculum

  • Character education is an opportunity for students to develop character through teaching values in schools. In the past, students have been taught values at home but contemporary society has strongly encouraged the public schools to provide time for children to learn values because society is facing a crisis of human values that affects the behavior of individuals. According to research findings, the primary benefit of character education is to develop the intellectual, personal, and social aspects of students. However, there are some problems concerning how to teach values and how to evaluate student outcomes in public schools. This article explores the current character education in the U. S. through a review of the literature in order to reach a better understanding of how character education might be included in the Family and Consumer Sciences Education curriculum.

  • 국내 캐릭터산업의 발전과 함께 산업적 콘텐츠로써의 캐릭터와 함께 공공캐릭터에 대한 관심도가 높아지고 있다. 공공캐릭터란 특정 지역, 기관, 단체, 조직, 행사 등의 구성원이 공유하거나 지향하는 상징성을 함축적으로 표현하고 있는 비영리적 캐릭터이다. 특정의 개인이나 단체의 이윤을 목적으로 하는 상업디자인과 구별되며, 디자인의 주체와 객체, 지향하는 가치, 역할 등에 있어 시민의 안녕과 행복과 같은 사회적인 가치를 추구하는 공공디자인의 목적과 부합하는 역할을 부여받았다. 공공캐릭터는 지자체 캐릭터 개발을 중심으로 발전하기 시작했으나, 대부분의 캐릭터가 활용되지 못했다. 그러나 공공캐릭터에 대한 관심이 높아지면서 캐릭터를 활용하여 지역에 대한 고유성과 정체성을 표현하기 위한 수단으로 다시금 환영받고 있다. 본 논문은 공공캐릭터가 가지는 지역에 대한 정체성 표현을 장소특정성(Site-Specificity)에 대입하여 연구해보고자 한다. 장소특정성은 동시대미술에서 장소에 초점을 맞춘 미술, 특정 장소 및 상황에 의해 의미가 생성되는 작품을 의미한다. 현재 공공캐릭터는 주로 한 지역 또는 기관을 대표하는 역할을 맡은 바, 어느 공동체 속에 속해있느냐에 따라 정체성과 그에 따른 가치를 판단할 수 있다. 이를 통해 지역 속 캐릭터가 공공디자인으로써 어떠한 사회적 의미를 가지는지에 대해 연구하고자 한다.

  • 현대에 와서 동물캐릭터의 도상적 상징성은 자의로 만들어져 사회적 약속에 의해 기호작용을 하게 되었고, 공공기관이나 기업을 상징하기 위해 동물캐릭터는 심벌로 만들어져 적극 활용되고 있다. 오늘날은 이 환영의 동물캐릭터들이 중요한 아이콘으로 작용하고 있고, 상품개발자는 세속적인 동물 콘텐츠를 지속적으로 만들어내고 있다. 본 논문에서는 미학사에서의 '상징성'을 이론적 배경으로 하며, 동물캐릭터의 시작이었던 애니메이션과 동물캐릭터의 접목을 통해서 살펴본 매체 발달에 의한 현대 동물캐릭터의 응용을 기술한다. 그리고 기업 및 공공기관 홍보용 동물캐릭터의 활용 사례 중 대표적이라 할 수 있는 서울시의 동물캐릭터 '해치'의 상징성을 분석한다.

공공임대아파트의 거주특성과 주거이동의식에 관한 연구 - 영구임대와 50년 임대아파트를 중심으로 - (A Study on the Residential Character and the Consciousness of Housing Movement in the Public Rental Apartment - Focused on Permanent Rental and Fifty Years Period Rental Apartment -)

  • Considering the present development situation of public rental apartment since 1982, the supply of homeless housing for low-income dwellers has contributed a amount of quantities, but has been deficient qualities in housing policy. To reflect the architect the properties of dwellers in rental apartment, this study is aimed at investigating the residential character and the consciousness of housing movement through questionaries in permanent rental apartment and fifty years period rental apartment complexes. The results of this study were as follows; The permanent rental apartment is dissatisfied with site location, site shape and building layout in housing environment view, the fifty years period rental apartment is dissatisfied with building area, rental bond, rental fee and maintenance cost in economics view. Housing type of movement preference hereafter is showed “rental apartment” as priority. Therefore, it is necessary to construct public rental apartment for low-income dwellers increasingly.

복합용도개발 내부공간의 외부공간 지향성에 관한 계획특성 연구 (A Study on the Planning Characteristics of Interior Space Aiming for the Exterior Space in Mixed-Use Development)

  • The purpose of this study is analysing the characteristics of interior space aiming for the exterior space in mixed-used development. The range of this study is limited as passage, department store, shoppingmall and Mixed Use Development. The method of this study is as follows. First, analysing the 7 samples of the interior space aiming for the exterior space in MXD through the framework of public character categorized as 5 factors, accessibility, openness, comfort properties, connectivity, convenience in use. Second, drawing a conclusion from the precedent step. The result of this study is as follows. First, the interior space has become bigger with time. And the public character is expanded with having the same structure of the city space. Second, the interior space solves the problem of the exterior space of city but prefers the same factors with the exterior space. Third, the street in the interior space has the characteristics of openness and comfort properties through diversification. And the open space is planned in various parts of the MXD and has the character of accessibility and connectivity.

근무처별 간호사의 노년기 견해 (Nurses' View about Old Age by Workplace)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the view on old age of nurses working at general hospitals, geriatric hospitals, oriental hospitals and public health centers. Methods: Data were collected using a self-report questionnaire from 461 nurses working at 3 general hospitals, 8 geriatric hospitals, 7 oriental hospitals and 6 public health centers located in Seoul, Gyeonggi-do and Chungcheong-do from June 20 to September 6, 2012. Results: The mean score of the nurses' view about old age was 3.38 out of 5 points. The details show that the 'society character' was the highest at 4.58, followed by the 'capacity character' 3.94, the 'psychology-economical character' 3.02 and the 'physical-cognitive character' 2.71. As for workplace, oriental hospitals had the highest points on the view about old age, while geriatric hospitals had the lowest. Conclusion: The results of this study indicated that the nurses' view about old age were above the moderate level. As for workplace, geriatric hospital nurses had the lowest view about old age. Therefore, it is recommended to develop an educational program that may promote the nurses' view about old age and provide the better elderly care service.

  • There are a lot of differences in the Eastern and Western space culture. Especially, Comparing to Japanese, Koreans are not good at utilizing the small space and react effectively. Therefore, the interior space of public transportation needs to be relatively developed to highly reasonable level in Korea. The purpose of this paper is to propose the concept of Korean tradition in urban transit interior layout, which means vernacular design. The interior layout should be made in terms of the emotional aspect not functional one. In order to study the notion of national character, this study refers the concept of interior layout of the public transportation to the layout of traditional architecture and modern office. The research of vernacular design can provide national character and traditional design and can make a success in a practical use and a visual effect. This study based on the national differences of space will be proposed the outline of interior layout and the shape of interior trims in the public transportation in Korea.

공익연계마케팅을 위한 네오팝아트 캐릭터 티셔츠 개발 연구 - 로메로 브리토를 중심으로 - (Study on the Development of Neo-pop Art Character T-shirts for Cause Related Marketing - Focused on Romero Britto -)

  • The purpose of this study is to examine ways to vitalize cause related marketing (CRM) by proposing character T-shirts The campaign will employ Neo-Pop art, a genre popular with both companies and consumers. Study results are as follows: First, campaign T-shirts on the issue of human alienation resulting from digitalization can be utilized to generate financial profit that can be returned to society. This can lead to the acts of exchange for profit generation, public image improvemen of companies, and enhancement of their external status. As for the non-financial aspect, the campaign could lead to increased awareness of social issues and present opportunities to take actions of improvement. Second, the financial objective of character T-shirts dealing with environmental issue of sustainability involves brand distribution network support and revitalization of promotion such as shopping basket of love and eco-friendly store matching program for eco-friendly campaign. As for the non-financial aspect, it can help raise consumers' awareness of cause related activities such as crowd funding and fundraising and prepare opportunities of direct participation. Third, the financial objective of character T-shirts dealing with natural disaster relief activities on the global level involves brand recognition level increase and enhancement of positive association of companies through emergency relief and articles support as a result of drastic increases in casualties from nature disasters. As for the non-financial aspect, it can induce people's participation in relief activities and lead to the establishment of crisis response procedures. The information on the development of pop-art character T-shirts proposed in this study is expected to be used as basic information on cause marketing of fashion companies in the future, while providing inspiration to related fashion design.

Integrated Method for Text Detection in Natural Scene Images

  • In this paper, we present a novel image operator to extract textual information in natural scene images. First, a powerful refiner called the Stroke Color Extension, which extends the widely used Stroke Width Transform by incorporating color information of strokes, is proposed to achieve significantly enhanced performance on intra-character connection and non-character removal. Second, a character classifier is trained by using gradient features. The classifier not only eliminates non-character components but also remains a large number of characters. Third, an effective extractor called the Character Color Transform combines color information of characters and geometry features. It is used to extract potential characters which are not correctly extracted in previous steps. Fourth, a Convolutional Neural Network model is used to verify text candidates, improving the performance of text detection. The proposed technique is tested on two public datasets, i.e., ICDAR2011 dataset and ICDAR2013 dataset. The experimental results show that our approach achieves state-of-the-art performance.

공간의 성격변화에 따른 Hybrid Policing의 치안활동 영역에 관한 이론적 고찰 (A Study on the Hybrid Policing of Policing Space Follow Character Alteration of Space)

  • 공간의 성격 구분에 있어 기존의 공적인 공간과 사적인 공간의 이분법적 구분법이 가능했을 때는 치안제도에 있어서도 공적인 치안만으로 사회질서유지가 가능하였다. 그러나 자본주의의 발달로 인해 거대 사적 재산층이 형성되면서 사적인 공간의 규모가 커지고 그에 따른 사적인 치안제도의 필요성이 대두되기 시작하였다. 거대 자본가들은 자신들의 재산과 신변보호를 위한 별도의 치안제도를 두기 시작한 것이다. 그러나 사회변화 양상이 더욱 다양화 되고, 경제규모가 커지면서 공간의 성격도 단순한 이분법적 구분으로 설명할 수 없는 공간이 형성되기 시작하였다. 즉, 공적인 공간과 사적인 공간의 중간계층인 제3의 공간이 형성된 것이다. 제3의 공간은 기존의 공적인 치안과 사적인 치안외의 추가의 치안수요를 창출하게 되었으며, 이러한 치안수요를 담당할 치안제도를 혼성적 치안이라고 한다. 혼성적 치안제도는 공적인 치안과 사적인 치안의 성격과 법적 지위가 혼합된 치안제도로서 치안수요의 다양화에서 그 원인을 찾을 수 있다. Johston에 의하면 혼성적 치안제도의 수요는 더욱 늘어날 것이며, 미래 치안제도의 모델이 될 것이라고 주장한다. 우리나라에서도 청원경찰제도나 특수경비원제도의 경우 혼성적 치안의 유형으로 분류할 수 있다. 향후 치안수요의 다양화 추세에 따라 혼성적 치안제도의 한국적 모델을 개발하여 한국 사회의 치안 지수를 향상시키는데 활용할 것을 제안한다.
