Purpose: The main purpose of this study is to develop an evaluation system using the weighted-values of various users and experts for the public space to apply Universal Design, and additionally to find out the commonalities and differences by comparing the importance of evaluation indicators between users and expert groups. Method: A one-sample t-test was conducted to verify that the components of the public space to universal design application are suitable as evaluation indicators, and AHP(analytic hierarchy process) was performed to derive weight-values for the evaluation system. Results: The importance-values for the total 23 facilities to be used as evaluation indicators were derived by multiplying the weighted-values of each sector, domain, and facility by the disabled, non-disabled, and experts. To summarize the results of overall importance-values derived from the AHP, The disabled showed high-rank weighted-values in facilities of building sector > park & recreation sector > cross domain and low-rank weighted-values for sidewalk and roadway domain. The non-disabled showed high-rank weighted-values in facilities of park & recreation sector > roadway domain > building sector > cross domain and low-rank weighted-values for sidewalk domain. Experts mainly showed high-rank weighted-values in the cross domain and in facilities related to entry and movement to the target space in all sectors and domains. However, it showed moderate importance-values in the sanitary space. The disabled who are restricted to movement have a high demand for universal design in buildings consisting of vertical moving line, and non-disabled people who are not limited to physical movement have a high demand for universal design in parks and recreation sector for increased leisure time. It means that experts are important to recognize the principles of making space because they value cross domain and the key spaces and facilities for suitable the purpose of use. In addition, it can be inferred that non-disabled people have a higher demand for safety than disabled people due to their high importance in roadway domain and facilities of safety and disaster prevention. Implications: The significance of this study is the establishment of a quantitative universal design evaluation system for public spaces considering the different perspectives of the disabled and the non-disabled.
Cherishing the dead is based in sadness. Designing a memorial space therefore has an inherent challenge to evoke the feeling that is so personal and varied by providing a physical space. The tendency of memorials, especially in the US after the mid 20th century, has been to emphasis each dead individual, as seen at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D. C., the Oklahoma City National Memorial in Oklahoma City, and so forth. In the process of designing the memorial of the Taiwanese Chi-chi earth-quake, Cheng Kim Park Robidoux tried to set up a series of spaces through which not only the relatives of the dead but also unrelated visitors could have their own spatial experiences, private rituals and public events, so that they can finally build up a collective memory. Sky-Well consists of a large bamboo forest enclosing a void. Without a particular entrance and guiding system, visitors stroll and get lost in the bamboo forest before they find the central void. The horror they experienced during the earthquake is melted down into the motion and phenomenology of the bamboo forest whereas the central void is reinterpreted as an empty mind, where people find solace from the sky. Details, such as the bamboo wall to place commemorative flowers and lotus blossom paving, are echoing the theme of rebirth.
This research purposes to understand architectural aim which the owners of buildings in the Doa-Rak-Dang block pursue through the history of family and construction. Moreover its other purpose is to find the design concepts which were selected to achieve the aim and the design elements which were applied to realize the design concepts. To accomplish the objects, it got rid of a stationary viewpoint but it approached with a dynamic viewpoint which can read the changes in the steps during various periods. Through the 100-year history of construction, the architectural aim of the Doa-Rak-Dang block is to establish the tradition of the Ok-San-Pa family to get over the social limitations of the family of a child by a concubine which began from Lee, Eun-Juk's mistress. The design concepts which were used by the owners of the Dok-Rak-Dang block to achieve the purpose are the extension of public territory and the enrichment of territoriality which have social-political, economical and symbolic means. The geometric applications such as axises and regulating lines were the design elements which were chosen to fulfill the concepts. If the establishment of the architectural aim and design concepts, the process of selecting and constructing proper design elements, and the geometric application in the process are the design principles of the Doa-Rak-Dang block, the principles can be summarized as the geometric applications of axises and regulating lines interacting as the standard of the extension of public area.
In architectural design studios, students' needs are evaluated from a diverse and objective point of view. And the evaluation process and results are to use a design evaluation method that everyone can recognize. Therefore, in this study, we propose Crowdsourcing, in which a large number of participants participate in the evaluation to solve fundamental problems. However, the field of architecture is an area in which expertise such as evacuation, firefighting, rescue, and regulations is essential. Therefore, we expanded the concept by participation of a large number of architects, not the general public. And It presented a new word, Prowdsourcing. Prowdsourcing is a group of architects working on-line as an evaluator. It is a method that can have objectivity and expertise of evaluation at the same time. Therefore, prowdsourcing will provide students with a variety of objective assessments, which will be a recognized design evaluation method by everyone.
Purpose: In recent years, since 2000 many hospitals have established a master plan. However, there are some hospitals proceeding in different way from the master plan while the process of execution plan. This is because the study of master plan has been incomplete yet and there is no feedback on the master plan. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to find the reasons why differences are occurred. Methods: Comparison analysis of five hospitals which have established master plans and constructed with execution plans and Questionnaire to an architect of execution plan have been conducted. Results: This study has found three points. The first one is the change in scope of business and the change of administrator. The second one is that administrator and staff of hospital have more demands for improvement in functional area rather than public area, like lobby. The last one is to check a possibility of the solution by architectural analysis. Implications: It is necessary to determine the cause of changes from master plan and execution plan, in order to reduce the change in advance.
As the local self-government are stabilized and the environmental value is becoming more important among local residents, the occurrence of the anti-movements against waste treatment facilities is getting more frequent. Opposing to build the reuse facilities of wastes takes place because of concerning of health and hygiene, as well as matters of unclear policy making process. However, these facilities must be built in somewhere for the convenience and profit of the public. The NIMBY phenomenon against reuse facilities of wastes could be a burden for the city operation system, and it could worsen citizens' quality of life in the long run. In these lights, reuse and recycling facilities of wastes in East region are necessary facilities improving citizens' quality of life and enhancing the growth of cities in the region. However, there have been concerning of deforestation during the construction process of the facilities. The landscape design presented here for these facilities considers the features of the environmental ecosystem and tries to establish a plan to preserve the natural environment of the City of Ichon. This paper presents methods minimizing adverse effects of the facilities on the existing environments and promoting the city image with integrating culture, tourism, landscape and environment of the city. The landscape design makes efforts to harmonize natural environments in the site, human activities and culture. Well-being park was aimed to lead healthy and energetic outdoor activities of local residents. Ecological park was aimed to enhance the ecological functions of the forests and restore the valley ecology. Culture park was aimed to capture the city identity by creating a place that contains all the variety of meanings of the City of Ichon.

The quality of performance evaluation on engineering consultants that provide design-related technical services is difficult to be measured, and only a handful of papers discussed the quality during the design stage. Although design cost is relatively far less than construction cost for a project, the decisions made in the design phase have a significant impact on the final products of the project, especially for large public construction projects. Therefore, this research focuses on reviewing and then establishing a performance evaluation framework for the consulting firms that execute detailed design and provide technical services for the Taipei Rapid Transit Systems (TRTS). By interviewing experts, this study first established a set of indicators to evaluate these firms' performance. Then, those indicators were incorporated into the four aspects of balanced scorecard (BSC) to establish the architecture of the evaluation mechanism. The weight of each indicator was calculated by analytic hierarchy process (AHP) from a survey conducted among experts. The results showed that the top-three indicators were quantity take-off, functions conformity, and budgeting. The framework of performance evaluation established by this study can be applied to measure service performance during the design stage. It not only facilitates the monitoring of consulting firms, but also helps to reduce unnecessary change orders and disputes during the construction stage.
In 1990s, interest on Environment has been increased and Environment-oriented consumer's economic power accelerated the trend of preference for 'Environment-friendly material'. Moreover, the concept of 'Sick Building' Syndrome has been spread to the public and solution for the syndrome is required. 'Environment-friendly material'means that the material used is not harmful for the user's health, and on top of that, causes least harm to the environment during production/scrap process of the material itself. Decision of designers and architectures, as a result, is really crucial tot he environment issues. Above all, selecting the most environment-friendly material and design among possible candidates is natural and cost saving way. In the paper, couple of Evaluation Criterium for Material Selection are analyzed and objective linkage has been identified. With the result of analysis, methodology to minimize damage on environment during whole life cycle of the Interior Design has been sought for.
