Effect of $LaNiO_3$ electrodes on Structural and Ferroelectric Proerties of $Bi_{3.25}Eu_{0.75}Ti_3O_{12}$ Thin films ($Bi_{3.25}Eu_{0.75}Ti_3O_{12}$ 박막의 구조 및 강유전 특성에 미치는 $LaNiO_3$전극의 영향)

  • $Bi_{3.25}Eu_{0.75}Ti_3O_{12}$ (BET) thin films were deposited on the $LaNiO_3$ (LNO (100))/Si and Pt/Ti/$SiO_2$/Si substrates by the metal-organic decomposition method. Structural and dielectric properties of BLT thin films for the applications in nonvolatile ferroelectric random access memories were investigated. Both the structure and morphology of the films were analyzed by x-ray diffraction (XRD) and atomic force microscope (AFM). Even at low temperatures $650^{\circ}C$, the BET thinfilms were successfully deposited on LNO bottom electrode and exhibited (001) and (117) orientation. Compared with the Pt electrode films, the BET thin films on the LNO electrode annealed at $650^{\circ}C$ showed better dielectric constantsand remanent polarization. The BET thin films on the LNO electrode for the annealing temperature of $650^{\circ}C$, the remanent polarization Pr and coercive field were $45.6\;C/cm^2$ and 171 kV/cm, respectively.

Effect of TiO2 Coating Thickness on Photovoltaic Performance of Dye-sensitized Solar Cells Prepared by Screen-printing Using TiO2 Powders

  • Dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) were synthesized using a $0.25cm^2$ area of a $TiO_2$ nanoparticle layer as the electrode and platinum (Pt) as the counter electrode. The $TiO_2$ nanoparticle layers (12 to 22 ${\mu}m$) were screen-printed on fluorine-doped tin oxide glass. Glancing angle X-ray diffraction results indicated that the $TiO_2$ layer is composed of pure anatase with no traces of rutile $TiO_2$. The Pt counter electrode and the ruthenium dye anchored $TiO_2$ electrode were then assembled. The best photovoltaic performance of DSSC, which consists of a $18{\mu}m$ thick $TiO_2$ nanoparticle layer, was observed at a short circuit current density ($J_{sc}$) of $14.68mA{\cdot}cm^{-2}$, an open circuit voltage ($V_{oc}$) of 0.72V, a fill factor (FF) of 63.0%, and an energy conversion efficiency (${\eta}$) of 6.65%. It can be concluded that the electrode thickness is attributed to the energy conversion efficiency of DSSCs.

  • 강유전체 재료의 하부전극으로 사용되고 있는 Pt/Ti 박막의 접착력에 대한 열처리 분위기의 영향을 연구하였다. 시편의 접착력은 90$^{\circ}$ 필 테스트 방법을 사용하여 정량적으로 측정하였다. 열처리 후 사용된 분이기에 관계없이 모두 접착력이 감소하였는데 특히 산소분위기에서 열처리 한 시편의 접착력이 매우 크게 감소하였다. AES depth profile과 단면 TEM을 이용하여 계면반응을 관찰한 결과 산소열처리시에는 Ti가 외부에서 확산해 온 산소와 반응하여 rutile TiO2상이 형성됨을 알 수 있었다. 그러므로 산소열처리 후에 일어나는 접착력의 급격한 감소 원인은 열처리시 취약한 TiO2상이 형성되며 이로 인해 Ti 접착층이 고갈되기 때문임을 알 수 있었다.

Electrocatalytic activity of the bimetallic Pt-Ru catalysts doped TiO2-hollow sphere nanocomposites (Pt-Ru@TiO2-H 나노구조체촉매의 합성 및 전기화학적 특성평가)

  • This paper describes the electrocatalytic activity for the oxidation of small biomolecules on the surface of Pt-Ru nanoparticles supported by $TiO_2$-hollow sphere prepared for use in sensor applications or fuel cells. The $TiO_2$-hollow sphere supports were first prepared by sol-gel reaction of titanium tetraisopropoxide with poly(styrene-co-vinylphenylboronic acid), PSB used as a template. Pt-Ru nanoparticles were then deposited by chemical reduction of the $Pt^{4+}$ and $Ru^{3+}$ ions onto $TiO_2$-hollow sphere ($Pt-Ru@TiO_2-H$). The prepared $Pt-Ru@TiO_2-H$ nanocomposites were characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and elemental analysis. The electrocatalytic efficiency of Pt-Ru nanoparticles was evaluated via ethanol, methanol, dopamine, ascorbic acid, formalin, and glucose oxidation. The cyclic voltammograms (CV) obtained during the oxidation studies revealed that the $Pt-Ru@TiO_2-H$ nanocomposites showed high electrocatalytic activity for the oxidation of biomolecules. As a result, the prepared Pt-Ru catalysts doped onto $TiO_2$-H sphere nanocomposites supports can be used for non-enzymatic biosensor or fuel cell anode electrode.

Sewage Sludge Thickening Using Electroflotation (전기부상을 이용한 하수슬러지 농축)

  • The performance of EF (electroflotation) on the thickening of activated sludge were investigated using laboratory scale batch flotation reactor. In this paper, the effects of parameters such as electrode material, NaCl dosage, initial sludge concentration and electrode distance were examined. The results showed that the performance for sludge thickening of the five electrodes lay in: Pt/Ti > Ru/Ti > Ir/Ti > Ti mesh > Ti plate. The more NaCl dosage was high, the more sludge was thickened and the shorter thickening time was obtained. However, considering the final thickening time and sludge concentration, optimum NaCl dosage was 0.5 g/L. Thickening time and sludge concentration was not affected by electrode distance. In DAF (dissolved air flotation) system, optimum recycle ratio was 40% and thickening performance was lower than that of the EF.

DSSC Efficiency Characteristics by Annealing Temperature and Thickness of Electrodes (전극의 두께와 소성 온도에 따른 DSSC의 효율 특성)

  • The photovoltaic performance of DSSCs fabricated with different electrode thickness and different annealing temperature with the P25 $TiO_2$ and the Dyesol $TiO_2$ was measured. Thickness change of $TiO_2$ electrodes was measured using cross-sectional FE-SEM before and after annealing. Photovoltaic efficiencies of DSSCs were also measured by changing annealing temperature of platinum (Pt) paste on the counter electrode. Photovoltaic performances of DSSCs made with one layer of P25 (${\sim}20.4\;{\mu}m$) and one layer of Dyesol $TiO_2$ (${\sim}9.1\;{\mu}m$) annealed at $500^{\circ}C$ for 30 min. showed highest efficiencies of 3.8% and 5.8%, respectively.

Phase Formation of $BaTiO_3$ Thin Films by Sputtering (Sputtering법에 의한 $BaTiO_3$ 박막의 상형성에 관한 연구)

  • BaTiO3 sputtering targets of 3 inch diameter were prepared by sintering the CIP (Cold Isotatic Pressing) compacts at 136$0^{\circ}C$ for 3hrs. The apparent density and grain size were 97% and 30${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$, respectively. After BaTiO3 films were deposited on Si and Pt/Ti/SiO2/Si substrates using these targets, films were annealed at various conditions and the crystallization behavior, reaction with the substrate and the electrical properties were investigated. The films on both substrates required 5~20hrs furnace annealing for crystallization at the temperatures from $600^{\circ}C$ to 80$0^{\circ}C$. For the films on Si substrate, interaction between the film and the substrate was suppressed upt o $700^{\circ}C$ for 10 hrs and the relative dielectric constant was 30. As the annelaing temperature and time were increased, the relative dielectric constants of the films decreased due to the formation of silicate phases through the reaction with the substrate. For the BaTiO3 films on Pt/Ti/SiO2/Si substrate, the reaction with the substrate was further reduced when the annealing condition was identical to that for Si substrate, but the reaction between the layers in Pt electrode took place above $700^{\circ}C$. When the films were annealed at $600^{\circ}C$ where the stability of Pt electrode was sustained, relative dielectric constant was increased to 110 since the reaction with substrate was effectively reduced even for a longer annealing time and the crystallization was enhanced.

Efficiency Improvement of Metal-Mesh Electrode Type Photoelectrochemical Cells by Oxides Layer Coatings (산화물박막 증착에 의한 금속 메쉬전극 구조 광전기화학셀의 효율 개선에 관한 연구)

  • In this work, the $TiO_2$ and $SnO_2$ thin films as blocking layers were coated directly onto the metal-mesh electrode surface to prevent unnecessary inflow of back-transfer electrons from the electrolyte ($I^-/I_3^-$) to the metal-mesh electrode. The DSCs were fabricated with working electrode of SUS mesh coated with blocking $TiO_2$ and $SnO_2$ layers, dye-attached mesoporous $TiO_2$ film, gel electrolyte and counter electrode of Pt-deposited F:$SnO_2$. From the experimental result, it was ascertained that the efficiency of metal electrode coated with $TiO_2$ by Dip-coating was superior to that of metal electrode coated with $SnO_2$ by Dip-coating and screen printing with the results of experiments. The photo-current conversion efficiency of the cell obtained from optimum fabrication condition was 3% ($V_{oc}$=0.61V, $J_{sc}$=11.64 mA/$cm^2$, ff=0.64) under AM1.5, 100 mW/$cm^2$ illumination.

Degradation of Ferroelectric Properties of Pt/PZT/Pt Capacitors in Hydrogen-containing Environment

  • The ferroelectric properties of the $Pt/PZT(Pb(Zr,Ti)O_3)/Pt$ capacitors are severely degraded when they are annealed in hydrogen-containing environment. Hydrogen atoms created by the catalytic reaction of Pt top electrode during annealing in hydrogen ambient penetrate into PZT films and generate oxygen vacancies by the reduction of the PZT films, which is likely to cause the degradation. The degree of hydrogen-induced degradation and the direction of voltage shift in P-E curves of the pre-poled PZT capacitors after annealing in hydrogen ambient is dependent on the polarity of the pre-poling voltage. This implies that oxygen vacancies causing hydrogen induced degradation are generated by hydrogen ions having a polarity. The degraded ferroelectricity of the PZT capacitors can be effectively recovered by the shift of oxygen vacancies toward the Pt top electrode interface during post-annealing in oxygen environment with applying negative unipolar stressing.

  • (S $r_{0.85}$/C $a_{0.15}$)Ti $O_3$(SCT) thin films at various deposition temperature and rf power were grown by rf magnetron sputtering method on optimized Pt-based electrodes (Pt/TiN/ $SiO_2$/Si). The crystallinity of the films increases with increasing deposition temperature. SCT thin film is depend on the surface morphology and crystallinity of Pt films for bottom electrode. Dielectric constant of (S $r_{0.85}$C $a_{0.15}$)Ti $O_3$ thin films deposited on Si wafer substrate are larger with the increase of deposition temperature and gain size.in size.
