  • Device-to-device (D2D) communications, a subset of Proximity-based Services that enables direct communication between LTE network subscribers, is gaining popularity. It is well underway to be adopted in cellular communication systems for pedestrian and connected-vehicles alike. In this paper, we briefly present our model of an Evolved Packet Core Network-assisted device discovery simulator and show the applicability of Proximity-based Services for Vehicular Ad-hoc Networks. Through the performance evaluation based on the developed simulation environment, it is shown that in case when users gather in the same vicinity, as in public transportation, LTE network data can be efficiently offloaded and multicasted through Wi-Fi for e.g. delivering traffic-related information and for the benefit of infotainment service consumers.

  • In this study, we proposed Interactive Visualization methods that can be analyzed relations between nations in various viewpoints such as period, issue using total 5211 of the UN General Assembly voting data. For this research, we devised a similarity matrix between nations and developed two visualization method based similarity matrix. The first one is Network Graph Visualization that can be showed relations between nations which participated in the vote of the UN General Assembly like Social Network Graph by year. and the second one is Proximity based Circular Visualization that can be analyzed relations between nations focus on one nation or Changes in voting patterns between nations according to time. This study have a great signification. that's because we proposed Proximity based Circular Visualization methods which merged Line and Circle Graph for network analysis that never tried from other cases of studies that utilize conventional voting data and made it. We also derived co-operatives of each visualization through conducting a comparative experiment for the two visualization. As a research result, we found that Proximity based Circular Visualization can be better analysis each node and Network Graph Visualization can be better analysis patterns for the nations.

  • A novel intravenous (IV) infusion monitoring sensor is presented to measure the drop rate in the drip chamber of an IV infusion set. It is based on a capacitive proximity sensor and detects the variation of the longitudinal electric field induced by the drop falling into the drip chamber. Unlike the conventional capacitor sensor with two semi-cylindrical conductor plates, the proximity sensor for IV monitoring is composed of a pair of conductor rings which are mounted on the outer surface of the drip chamber with a specific gap between them. The characteristics of the proximity sensor for IV monitoring were investigated through three dimensional electrostatic simulations. It showed quite superior performances in comparison with the conventional capacitor sensor. Especially, the proposed proximity sensor exhibits consistent sensitivity regardless of its mounting position on the drip chamber, operates normally though the drip chamber is tilted and shows robustness to the changes of the drop size and the drip factor of the IV infusion set. Thus, the proximity sensor for IV monitoring is more suitable for use in actual environment of IV therapy compared with the conventional capacitor sensor.

  • Background: Varicella is the most common infectious disease reported despite the high vaccination rate. Interventions that target humans are particularly effective for varicella because humans are its only natural host. On the other hand, the existing national varicella surveillance systems lack the information to identify an outbreak. Therefore, a new index to assess varicella outbreaks was developed. Methods: The residential addresses of 2,718 varicella cases reported in Daegu in 2016 were converted to geographic coordinates and the distances between new varicella case and previous cases within 21 days were calculated from the date analyzed. Two cases were considered to be adjacent if the distance between them was less than 1 km. Finally, a proximity index was introduced by dividing the number of adjacent cases by the number of new cases on the date analyzed. Results: First, time-series charts and scatter plots were used to verify that the proximity index reflected the spatial closeness of the different varicella cases. The proximity index is helpful in identifying outbreaks from a list of single varicella cases. In addition, in this study, a new epidemic characteristic of varicella based on the proximity index was shown. Conclusion: The proximity index introduced in this study can be used to determine the likelihood of an outbreak from a single case of varicella, and it can be embedded in a web-based national varicella surveillance system that is currently in operation.

  • We report on the improvement of critical dimension (CD) linearity on a photomask by applying the concept of process proximity correction to a laser lithographic process used for the fabrication of photomasks. Rule-based laser process proximity correction (LPC) was performed using an automated optical proximity correction tool and we obtained dramatic improvement of CD linearity on a photomask. A study on model-based LPC was executed using a two-Gaussian kernel function and we extracted model parameters for the laser lithographic process by fitting the model-predicted CD linearity data with measured ones. Model-predicted bias values of isolated space (I/S), arrayed contact (A/C) and isolated contact (I/C) were in good agreement with those obtained by the nonlinear curve-fitting method used for the rule-based LPC.

  • As ubiquitous devices are fast spreading, the communication problem between humans and these devices is on the rise. The use of context is important in interactive application such as handhold and ubiquitous computing. Context is not crisp data, so it is necessary to introduce the fuzzy concept. The proxity relation is represented by the degree of closeness or similarity between data objects of a scalar domain. A context manager of context-awareness system evaluates imprecise queries with the proximity relations. in this paper, a systematic proximity elicitation method are proposed. The proposed generation method is simple and systematic. It is based on the well-known fuzzy set theory and applicable to the real world applications because it has tuning parameter and weighting factor. The proposed representations of proximity relation is more efficient than the ordinary matrix representation since it reflects some properties of a proximity relation to save space. We show an experiments of quantitative calculate for the proximity relation. And we analyze the time complexity and the space occupancy of the proposed representation method.

  • A collision query determines the intersection between given objects, and is used in computer-aided design and manufacturing, animation and simulation systems, and physically-based modeling. Bounding volume hierarchies are one of the simplest and most widely used data structures for performing collision detection on complex models. In this paper, we present hierarchy of oriented rounded bounding volume for fast proximity queries. Designing hierarchies of new bounding volumes, we use to combine multiple bounding volume types in a single hierarchy. The new bounding volume corresponds to geometric shape composed of a core primitive shape grown outward by some offset such as the Minkowski sum of rectangular box and a sphere shape. In the experiment of parallel close proximity, a number of benchmarks to measure the performance of the new bounding box and compare to that of other bounding volumes.

  • An integrated system composed of guidance, navigation and control (GNC) system for autonomous proximity operations and the docking of two spacecraft was developed. The position maneuvers were determined through the integration of the state-dependent Riccati equation formulated from nonlinear relative motion dynamics and relative navigation using rendezvous laser vision (Lidar) and a vision sensor system. In the vision sensor system, a switch between sensors was made along the approach phase in order to provide continuously effective navigation. As an extension of the rendezvous laser vision system, an automated terminal guidance scheme based on the Clohessy-Wiltshire state transition matrix was used to formulate a "V-bar hopping approach" reference trajectory. A proximity operations strategy was then adapted from the approach strategy used with the automated transfer vehicle. The attitude maneuvers, determined from a linear quadratic Gaussian-type control including quaternion based attitude estimation using star trackers or a vision sensor system, provided precise attitude control and robustness under uncertainties in the moments of inertia and external disturbances. These functions were then integrated into an autonomous GNC system that can perform proximity operations and meet all conditions for successful docking. A six-degree of freedom simulation was used to demonstrate the effectiveness of the integrated system.
