Identification of Endogenous Gibberellins by Feeding of [14C] GA12 in Chinese Yam, Dioscorea opposite

  • The metabolism of [14C] GA12 in the Chinese yam (Dioscorea opposita Thunb. var. Tsukune) was examined to determine the identification of endogenous gibberellins. [14C] GA12 was metabolized to GA53, GA44, GA19, GA20, GA1, GA8, GA15, GA24, GA9, GA36 and GA4. Radioactivity of GAs in non C-13 hydroxylation route was five-fold higher than that of early C-13 hydroxylation in analyzed GA-metabolites. Radioactivity of GA4 was always four times higher than that of GA1 at every feeding time. GA1 radioactivity has always a lower level to below 200 DPM. The major pathway of endogenous GA metabolism in seedlings of the Chinese yam might be the non C-13 hydroxylation pathway.

  • Korean movies are now entering the global market without staying in the domestic market. Especially, despite the fact that the foreign films are imported and opened to the domestic market very much, there are more domestic films that have succeeded in box office success. In this paper, we try to clarify the characteristics of the voices of movies in order to feel horror among various genres of domestic movies. For this reason, the criterion for the success of the movie is the number of paying audiences, so differences of the voice of the characters of the horror movie that succeeded to hit the box office and the voice of the characters of the horror movie that failed to hit the box are analyzed for verifying the success conditions in voice. In addition, we would like to suggest what kind of voice should be used in order to succeed in the horror movie from the voice point of view.

Isolation of Antimicrobial Components from Moutan Cortex (목단피로부터 항균활성 성분의 분리)

  • To evaluate antimicrobial activity of Moutan cortex the compounds isolated from CHCl3 and EtOAc fractions of Moutan cortex were subjected to eight pathogenic strains. Benzoic acid, witch was identified from the CHCl3 fraction, had MICs with 6251,250μg/ml against all of the strains tested. Methyl gallate, p-hydroxy benzoic acid, gallic acid and 1,2,3,4,6pentaOgallyolβDglucose, which were identified from the EtOAc fraction, showed the antimicrobial activity, and the methyl gallate had the widest antimicrobial activity with MICs of 6255,000μg/ml against all strains tested. p-Hydroxy benzoic acid showed MICs of 1,2502,500μg/ml against all of the strains tested except C.albicans. Gallic acid had the best antimicrobial activities with MICs against the Shigella dysenteriae and Streptococcus mutans-strains of 78.1 and 312.5μg/ml, respectively, but not against the C. albicans. And 1,2,3,4,6pentaOgallyolβDglucose had the best antimicrobial activitie with MICs against the B. cereus, Staph. epidermidis and C. albicans strains of 39.1, 39.1 and 156.3μg/ml, respectively, but not against the E. coli and Shig. Dysenteriae.

Environmental Factors Affecting Maturation Rate of Pseudorhecia of Mycosphaerella nawae, the Causal Organism of the Spotted Leaf Castin of Persimmon (감나무 둥근무늬낙엽병균(Mycosphaerella nawae)의 위자낭각 성숙에 영향을 미치는 환경요인)

  • The environmental factors affecting maturity of pseudothecia overwintered in iufected leaves by Mycosphaserella nawae was investigated. The pseudothecia in the overwinteringinfected leaves were matured at the end of April when the average temperature was 14C and precipitation was enough. Pseudothecia initiation was preceded by the fungal biomass development in a given host. The maturity of the pseudothecia from the leaves defoliated in early October was earlier and higher than those defoliated in November of the previous year. Pseudothecia development was also positively affected by low temperature. The maturity time, as determined by percentage of matured pseudothecia out of prematured ones, was also 20 days earlier, and the rate of maturity was higher for the leaves overwintered in door, than for those kept in greenhouse. We have providedevidence that the conidia play a significant role in the epidemiology of this pathogen. Many pseudothecia were developed in the leaves infected by artificially inoculated conidia and maturation rate of the pseudothecia was not different from that of the typical symptom by ascospores infection of Mycosphaerella nawae.

Constituents of Flowers of Carthamus tinctorius L. and Their Antioxidant Activity (홍화의 성분 분리 및 항산화 활성)

  • As part of our ongoing study focused on the discovery of antioxidants from natural products by measuring the DPPH (1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl) radical scavenging activity, methanol extract of flowers of Carthamus tinctorius L. was found to show potent antioxidant activity. Activity-guided fractionation of the methanol extract lead to the isolation of twenty compounds including two flavonol glycosides, quercertin-3-O-β-D-glucopyranoside (12) and kaempferol-3-O-α-L-rhamnopyranosyl-β-D-glucopyranoside (18), two flavanone glycosides, (2S)-4',5,6,7-tetrahydroxyflavanone 6-O-β-D-glucopyranoside (15) and (2R)-5,7,8',4-tetrahydroxyflavanone 8-O-β-D-glucopyranoside (16), and two acetylenic glycosides, 8Z-decaene-4,6-diyne-1-O-β-D-glucopyranoside (13) and 4,6-decadiyne-1-O-β-D-glucopyranoside (14). Their chemical structures were identified by using spectroscopic analysis. Among them, compounds 12-18 were tested in DPPH assay. Compounds 13-16 were first reported to their antioxidant activity. Quercertin-3-O-β-D-glucopyranoside (12) showed the most potent inhibitory effect on DPPH with IC50 value of 56.7 μM.

  • This study was conducted to investigate the effect of municipal sludge application on the change of physico-chemical properties and contents of heavy metals in soils. The application of the sludge resulted in increasing the content of total nitrogen, available phosphate,exchangeable K, Ca, Mg, and the soil porosity and permeability but soil hardness was reduce. It is clear that application of municipal sewage sludge would not due to increase in the heavy metals content in soil because of the lower concentration of heavy metal in the sludge. Totally it is evident that municipal sewage sludge application should play an important role in improving soil physico-chemical properties.

Study on the Seed Production of Olive Flounder Paralichthys olivaceus in a Pilot Scale Recirculating Aquaculture System

  • Seed production of olive flounder Paralichthys olivaceus was performed in a pilot RAS. The growth of juvenile olive flounder and changes in water quality were monitored for the entire production period. The pilot RAS consisted of 8 circular culture tanks(4.0mD×1.0mH), 2 trickling biofilters(1.7mD×2.0mH), 2 protein skimmers (0.8mD×2.5mH), and 4 sedimentation chambers(0.7mD×1.5mH). The culture surface area was about 100.5m2 and the actual working volume was about 106.9m3. As many as 300,000 fertilized olive flounder eggs were initially distributed into 2 culture tanks with the water temperature at 19.0C. Live feeds such as rotifers and Artemia nauplii were fed until the 32nd day after hatching, and a commercial diet was fed from the 19th day to the end of the experiment. After 70 days, 150,256 juveniles with a body length of 65.8±3.9mm were produced in the RAS, with a daily growth rate for body length of 4.7%/day. At this time, the final culture density was 1,495 individuals m2, and 13.6 L of makeup water, 0.071 kW of electricity and 0.025 L of diesel fuel were used to produce a juvenile olive flounder. During metamorphosis of the larvae, the TAN concentration increased to 0.99 mg/L, which made the larvae sensitive to result in some mortality. However no more massive mortality occurred at the juvenile stage after metamorphosis even at a TAN concentration of 4.25 mg/L and a NO2N concentration of 2.45 mg/L.

  • Recently, false reports to governmental offices such as police stations have not been decreased. As a result, if a violent crime or a fire occurs that needs to be promptly responded to and reacted to these accidents in real time, it may lead to serious results such as loss of life. Also, the waste of police enforcement and administration due to false reporting can cause serious problems. In this paper, we try to clarify the difference between the actual and false reports based on the actual sound sources which were reported to the police stations. In addition, we will intend to develop a false report discrimination system that can identifies false reports and actual reports based on this.

  • Because Li-ion battery and Li-Polymer battery have high-energy storage density, they are used for various electronic devices such as electronic cigarette, electronic bicycle, drone, second battery, even golf cart and electronic car. Recently, however, battery explosion is sometimes occurring on electronic devices using Li-ion battery and is becoming serious as bodily harm is breaking out due to explosion. For this, this paper described the Li-ion Battery's operating principles and verified the cause of explosion by overload tests caused by the high-energy storage density. According to the these experiments, we conducted a study to develope scanning techniques of fire and safety measures.

Change in Chemical Components of Green Powder Tea during Storage Period at 5C Storage Temperature (가루녹차의 저온저장(5C) 중 품질 변화)

  • The effect of storage methods on green tea powder were investigated by examining quality changes of the tea during storage at 5C. aluminium-packing without any treatment showed the green powder tea quality of unchanged for 120 days storage, after which significant decrease in the green powder tea constituents connected quality such as total nitrogen, total amino acid, tannin, caffeine, chlorophyll, vitamin C, and fatty acid were observed. The changes in the green color indexes(a value) of green powder tea at 5C were resulted in the of -16.69, -16.20, and 13.69 for 30, 60, and 120 days with the storage period respectively. A sensuous examination for quality assay of the green powder tea demonstrated 93, 91, 88 and 73 points as a storage period 0, 30, 60 and 120 day, respectively. This study suggested that storage method at 5C was a successful method for storage of green powder tea.
