  • There are many application areas of wireless sensor networks, such as combat field surveillance, terrorist tracking and highway traffic monitoring. These applications collect sensed data from sensor nodes to monitor events in the territory of interest. One of the important issues in these applications is the existence of the radio-jamming zone between source nodes and the base station. Depending on the routing protocol the transmission of the sensed data may not be delivered to the base station. To solve this problem we propose a genetic algorithm based routing method for reliable transmission while considering the balanced energy depletion of the sensor nodes. The genetic algorithm finds an efficient routing path by considering the radio-jamming zone, energy consumption needed fur data transmission and average remaining energy level. The fitness function employed in genetic algorithm is implemented by applying the fuzzy logic. In simulation, our proposed method is compared with LEACH and Hierarchical PEGASIS. The simulation results show that the proposed method is efficient in both the energy consumption and success ratio of delivery.

  • Purpose: To study the internal psychological conflicts among nursing students during an infection control protocol carried out in the hospital by measuring their observation skills and performance during clinical training. Methods: Investigation of both pre- and post- infection control was conducted using questionnaires for clinical infection practices. We identified and evaluated the students' observation skills, clinical performance, clinical perception, and internal conflict regarding clinical infection control. We also interviewed the students as part of our study. Results: Among parameters such as clinical performance, observation skills, clinical perception, and internal conflict, the average observation skills (t=5.49, p<.001) were significantly lower, while internal conflict among students (t=-7.23, p<.001) was significantly higher than expected prior to clinical training. Generally, there was a negative correlation between observation skills and internal conflict in every aspect of infection control practice (r=-.281, p=.031). Internal conflict was significantly higher than expected in the context of hand hygiene (t=-2.135, p=.037), personal hygiene (t=-3.48, p=.002), and ventilator management (t=-3.69, p<.001). Clinical performance of students in the context of hand hygiene (t=4.69, p<.001), personal hygiene (t=2.06, p=.044), and ventilator management (t=2.68, p<.001) was significantly lower than expected prior to clinical training. Conclusion: Our findings showed that internal psychological conflict is higher when infection control practices are observed or performed to a lesser degree. Therefore, reinforcing education regarding infection control among students, such as developing a systematic program, or consecutive training and monitoring, is suggested.

  • In this study, we implemented IoT Sensor Network using Mobius Platform and implemented four kinds of Z-wave sensors applicable to smart home service to verify its performance. The 12 common service functions (CSF) provided by Mobius enable application services including status monitoring of sensors to be implemented quickly. The standard service procedures and protocols have eliminated the design process of the system and shortened the meeting time for establishing protocol between application software developer, gateway developer and sensor developer, and discussion time for adjustment of opinion. We confirmed that the application service based on the implemented sensor network and the implementation of IoT sensor can shorten the development schedule, and confirmed that most of the products purchased in the market can be accommodated without change. We hope that such speediness and openness will be able to meet the demands of various services and contribute to expanding services and creating new markets.

  • Background: We strived to evaluate the status of nivolumab use and associated factors on the clinical efficacy of the drug. Methods: The study was retrospectively conducted in patients who had been administered nivolumab at least once at the cancer center of Seoul National University Hospital from June 2015 to April 2017. Data were collected from electronic medical records. A medication-use evaluation was performed based on the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists mediation-use guidelines. Results: Sixty-six of the 74 patients (89.2%) showed indications approved for nivolumab use by the Korean Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS; n=55) or the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA; n=11). Approximately 73.0% of the patients were administered the approved dose of 3 mg/kg but 25.7% were administered an unapproved fixed dose of 100 mg. The overall response rate was 21.7%, and the response rate of non-small cell lung cancer patients, who accounted for the largest number of indications, was 18.8%. Adverse reactions were found in 90.1% of the patients and were mostly mild (86%). The expression of programmed death-ligand 1 (PD-L1) was analyzed as a factor affecting treatment response (p=0.028, odds ratio [OR]=11.331). Conclusion: PD-L1 expression was found to affect treatment response. However, caution is required while using an unapproved dosage and in the absence of monitoring for effectiveness and safety. Therefore, an effective protocol or instruction manual for the proper use of nivolumab should be considered.

  • Wireless communication technologies, especially smartphones, have become increasingly common. Wireless technology is widely used in general industry and this trend is also expected to grow with the development of wireless technology. However, wireless technology is not currently applied in any domestic operating nuclear power plants (NPPs) because of the highest priority of the safety policy. Wireless technology is required in operating NPPs, however, in order to improve the emergency responses and work efficiency of the operators and maintenance personnel during its operation. The wired telephone network in domestic NPPs can be simply connected to a wireless local area network to use wireless devices. This design change can improve the ability of the operators and personnel to respond to an emergency situation by using important equipment for a safe shutdown. IEEE 802.11 smartphones (Wi-Fi standard), Internet Protocol (IP) phones, personal digital assistant (PDA) for field work, notebooks used with web cameras, and remote site monitoring tablet PCs for on-site testing may be considered as wireless devices that can be used in domestic operating NPPs. Despite its advantages, wireless technology has only been used during the overhaul period in Korean NPPs due to the electromagnetic influence of sensitive equipment and cyber security problems. This paper presents the electromagnetic verification results from major sensitive equipment after using wireless devices in domestic operating NPPs. It also provides a solution for electromagnetic interference/radio frequency interference (EMI/RFI) from portable and fixed wireless devices with a Wi-Fi communication environment within domestic NPPs.

  • The current railway control system in Korea is comprised of signaling, electric rail power, communication, and maintenance systems that are independent of each other. Further, these systems have different mediums and protocols for transmitting the field equipment data to the central control system. The Safety Supervision System has as its purpose the collecting of safety-related data from each system to predict and prevent accidents, this system utilizes standard protocol. Safety-related data need to be collected from field data transmission devices of the existing control system, the data should be collected without affecting the communication of the existing system. In this study, sniffing skill, which is typically used for network traffic monitoring or security, is used to collect data. The problems arising from the use of sniffing devices are noted, and the Packet Conversion Node is proposed as a solution to the problems. Further, functional and performance testing were completed for the prototype, and the software architecture and packet conversion process were verified.

  • The existing Proxy Mobile IPv6 suffers from a long handover latency which in turn causes significant packet loss that is unacceptable for seamless realtime services such as multimedia streaming. This paper proposes an OpenFlow-enabled proxy mobile IPv6 (OF-PMIPv6) in which the control of access gateways is centralized at an OpenFlow controller of a foreign network. The proposed OF-PMIPv6 separates the control path from the data path by performing the mobility control at the controller, whereas the data path remains direct between a mobile access gateway and a local mobility anchor in an IP tunnel form. A group of simple OpenFlow-enabled access gateways performs link-layer control and monitoring activities to support a comprehensive mobility of mobile nodes, and communicates with the controller through the standard OpenFlow protocol. The controller performs network-layer mobility control on behalf of mobile access gateways and communicates with the local mobility anchor in the Proxy Mobile IPv6 domain. Benefiting from the centralized view and information, the controller caches the authentication and configuration information and reuses it to significantly reduce the handover latency. An analytical analysis of the proposed OF-PMIPv6 reactive and proactive handover schemes shows 43% and 121% reduction in the handover latency, respectively, for highly utilized network. The results gathered from the OF-PMIPv6 testbed suggest similar performance improvements.

  • Compared to terrestrial RF communications, underwater acoustic communications have several limitations such as limited bandwidth, high level of fading effects, and a large underwater propagation delay. In this paper, in order to tackle those limitations of underwater communications and to make it possible to form a large underwater monitoring systems, we propose a hierarchical underwater network architecture, which consists of underwater sensors, clusterheads, underwater/surface sink nodes, autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs). In the proposed architecture, for the maximization of packet delivery ratio and the minimization of underwater sensor's energy consumption, a hybrid routing protocol is used. More specifically, cluster members use Tree based routing to transmit sensing data to clusterheads. AUVs on optimal trajectory movements collect the aggregated data from clusterhead and finally forward the data to the sink node. Also, in order to minimize the maximum travel distance of AUVs, an Integer Linear Programming based algorithm is employed. Performance analysis through simulations shows that the proposed architecture can achieve a higher data delivery ratio and lower energy consumption than existing routing schemes such as gradient based routing and geographical forwarding. • ubiquitous network management system (u-NMS) is the network management system based on smartphone which are recently of wide use. The purpose of the u-NMS is to provide convenience for network administrator utilizing the mobility of smartphone and to manage the network efficiently. This paper proposes the smart NMS agent and the mobility management server (MMS). The smart NMS agent enables to use the monitoring web server and remote control application on the smartphone in wireless network. The MMS is developed to reduce the problems such as handover latency and packet loss, which can be taken place in wireless network. The network manager can monitor traffic in real time through the smart NMS agent and remotely control the network efficiently when sudden failures happen in the u-NMS. In this paper, performance evaluation is carried out with our test-bed system implemented. We focus on the measurement of the MMS performance. When the MMS is compared to previous mobility management protocol, our mobility management server reduces the average latency up to 65% in initial access, handover latency and processing delay to the network management center.
