Coaxial-type Transient Voltage Suppressor for Antenna Circuit Protection (안테나용 동축형 과도전압 차단장치)

  • This paper describes a new transient voltage suppressor(TVS) with a low insertion loss and a very wide frequency bandwidth to protect antenna circuit from transient voltages. Conventional protection devices have some problems such as low frequency bandwidth and high insertion loss. In order to improve these limitations, a coaxal type TVS, which consists of a gas tube is developed. The performance of the proposed transient voltage suppressor is tested by using a combination surge generator specified in IEC 61000-4-5 standard and by using a network analyzer of 40 MHz ∼ 5GHz bandwidth. From the experimental results, it is confirmed that the proposed TVS has an enough protection performance in low insertion loss and in wide frequency bandwidth

  • This paper deals with an I/O simulator design for performance evaluation of reactor protection systems in nuclear power plants. The I/O simulator provides input signals for the reactor protection system, and acquires output signals from the initiation circuits. The simulator is based on VMEbus system, and all VMEbus boards are developed within the country.

  • The design of an occupant protection equipment has been considered as the important process in developing a new car since the crash performance plays an important role on the market. The cost is increased when an unexpected real test is carried out in the proto-design stage. Thus, the exact prediction of a crash performance can reduce the number of full-car test. In this research, the robust design of an airbag system considering the frontal crash is suggested to predict the more reliable responses. On the contrary, most existing researches do not consider the uncertainties. The uncertainties treated in this research are the tolerances of the vent hole, the time to fire and the length of a strap in airbag and the tolerance of the load limiter load in seat belt. Using multi-type sensor measurements for damage detection of shear connectors in composite bridges under moving loads

  • This paper proposes using the multi-type sensor vibration measurements, such as from a relative displacement sensors and a traditional accelerometer for the damage detection of shear connectors in composite bridge under moving loads. Hilbert-Huang Transform (HHT) spectra of these responses will be fused with a data fusion approach i.e., Dempster-Shafer method, to detect the damage of shear connectors. Experimental studies on a composite bridge model in the laboratory are conducted to demonstrate the effectiveness and performance of using the proposed approach in detecting the damage of shear connectors in composite bridges. Both undamaged and damaged scenarios are considered. The detection results with the data fusion of multi-type sensor measurements show a more reliable and robust performance and accuracy, avoiding the false identifications.

  • An extensive corrosion study was initiated by galvalume steel sheet manufacturing company to clarify the corrosion behavior of zinc and zinc-alloy coated automotive sheet steel in out panel and electrical application. Since the early 1980's the use of zinc and aluminum alloy coated steel for vehicular corrosion protection has increased drastically. This paper describes the evaluation of formability, weldability and painted corrosion performance of galvalume steel sheet. This paper presents an overview of the program and some initial test results on the weldability, lifetime of the electrode tip shape of the spot welding and corrosion protection. Galvalume steel sheet improved corrosion performance and spot weldability of galvalume steel sheet has no problem for the variation of welding current. And tip lifetime was changed according to the influence of shape.

Protection performance of dual flying oblique plates against yawed long rod penetrator (Yaw가 있는 긴 관통자에 대한 이중 비행경사판재의 방호성능 분석)

  • The protection capability against an enhanced long rod(L/D=30) with yaw is investigated numerically and compared with that of shorter one(L/D=15). In addition details of interactions between yawed long rods and oblique plate velocity are examined. Through the simulation results, we find that dual flying plates system is more effective with longer rod due to the elongated disturbance. The protection performance is more effective for the penetrator with $+6^{\circ}$ of yaw angle than that with a yaw angle of $-6^{\circ}$.

  • This study evaluated the impedance characteristics of earth termination system and developed a variable frequency-typed inverter (measuring tool) for the utilization in ground design for lightning protection. The variable-frequency-typed inverter were composed of rectification part, voltage adjuster, IGBT controller and measuring part. Meanwhile, the square wave signal of variable frequency converted its frequency up to lightning surge band by using an IGBT after rectifying an alternating current (AC). It conducted performance evaluation of ground impedance of actual earth termination system by using the developed measuring tool for ground impedance and confirmed that such impedance-oriented performance evaluation was effective in the design of lightning protection.

  • Background doping concentration (BDC) is proven to be a critical factor to affect the high current behavior of the extended drain NMOSFET (EDNMOS) devices. The EDNMOS device with low BDC suffers from strong snapback in the high current region, which results in poor electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection performance and high latchup risk. However, the strong snapback can be avoided in the EDNMOS device with high BDC. This implies that both the good ESD protection performance and the latchup immunity can be realized in terms of the EDNMOS by properly controlling its BDC.

  • Firesafety design engineerings have been mainly derived from complicated rearrangement of descriptive specifications in codes or regulations through a great number of lessons from fire disasters. In this paper, the author refers to some recent developments in the field of building fire protection. At first, the author expresses his viewpoints concerning performance-based design codes, which have been popular throughout the world as a symbol of freedom from restricted usage of building materials and components prescrived in regulation or bylaws, in spite of some conflicts between objects-oriented design method and industrial mass production. Secondly, the author introduces several innovative fire protection methods adopted for large or void spaces in building complex. Finally, the author forcasts a next development of firesafety science and technology, aimed at securing personal safety in hyperscale urban areas.

  • 현대사회가 핵가족화 되면서 2000년에는 노인인구비율이 7%에 육박하였고, 2022년에는 고령사회의 기준이 되는 14%를 넘게 될 전망이다. 실버타운은 노인들이 안락을 위해 자녀를 벗어나 독립된 생활을 하는 건축물로서, 고령화 노인들이 크게 증가함에 따라 대형화, 고층화, 다기능화 되는 추세에 있으며, 이에 따라 화재로 인한 잠재적 위험성이 커지게 된다. 이에 본 연구에서는 성능위주설계(PBD : Performance Based Design)에 입각하여 실제 A 건물의 실버타운을 선정하고 이에 대한 화재 및 피난 시나리오를 작성 후 화재 및 피난 시뮬레이션 해석을 통해 피난성능을 평가하여 향후 개선방안을 제시하고자 한다.
