  • The installation of lightning protection system has recently been increasing, but the amount of damage has still been increasing. In this study, survey (interview) and field conditions were conducted to identify the installation and safety standards of the lightning protection system. it was analyzed that the safety management system is non-existent at the stage of the design, manufacturing and construction of the site lightning protection system, and that the safety inspection of the lightning protection facility is not properly managed. It has been shown that lightning protection systems, that can solve these problems, need to be re-established according to the reality so that safety inspection can be carried out in accordance with safety standards such as management of safety certification products, operation of survey institutions, design, manufacturing, and construction of safety standards at a national level.

  • Neutron reference fields of Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute (KAERI) for calibrating neutron measuring devices to be used in radiation workplace monitoring consist of two kinds of neutron spectra, the direct and the scattered neutron fields, which are produced by using radionuclide neutron sources, 252Cf and 241AmBe sources. Necessary parameters for calibration such as the anisotropy factor of each neutron source and the room-scattered fraction of some neutron surveymeters in the KAERI calibration facility were determined by calculation or measurement. Spectral measurement of scattered neutron fields were performed at each reference calibration point using a Bonner Multi-sphere Spectrometer (BMS) and the dosimetric quantities for calibration also estimated from the neutron energy spectra which were unfolded using the BUNKI code.

  • In Japan, there are over the 100's fires in the social welfare organs every years. People are interested in fire protection who live in an institution for the aged or weak person's places and worried about it. I surveyed the social welfare organs were safety from fire to firewarden who worked at an institution for the aged in Tokyo. In the paper, I asked how do you think about the fire safety problems and condition of the facilities. And base on firewarden's view, I reviewed(examined) the fire prevention measures, each facility's problems and how to improve the fire protection.

  • The effective dose of the Seoul subway staffs due to inhaled radon ($^{222}Rn$) in their workplace was investigated depended on radon concentration exposed at each workplace, and working hours and working types of the staffs. Annual average radon concentrations ranged from 16.5 to 93.0 $Bq{\cdot}m^{-3}$. The staffs commonly spend 2,304 hours in the underground spaces a year. With the radon concentrations and the working hours of the staffs, estimated annual effective doses ranged from 0.23 to 0.73 $mSv{\cdot}y^{-1}$.

  • To design protection coordination for an electric power distribution system, an expert system is developed, using both the veteran expert's heuristics and the guide book for the distribution facility operation considering feeder configuration, service route, load characteristics fault current and load current. The expert system developed in this papaer determines the type of protective device(clearing current and sequence). The location and rating change of protective device in the old feeder is realized by using old database. Current(T-C) curves of various kinds of protective devices are stored in Knowledge Base (KB). The expert system is developed on a 32 bit personal computer using PROLOG, AutoCAD,dBASEIIIPLUS and FORTRAN. To compute the fault current and loadflow, FORTRAN is used.

  • Background: The moderated neutron calibration fields using $^{241}Am$-Be sources and a graphite moderator have been constructed at the Facility of Radiation Standard (FRS) in the Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA). Materials and Methods: The neutron spectra of the fields were evaluated by the Monte-Carlo calculations and measurements using the Bonner Multi-sphere Spectrometer. Results and Discussion: The fields have continuous neutron spectra from several MeV to thermal neutron energy, with fluence-averaged energies of 0.84 MeV and 0.60 MeV. Reference values of fluence rates and ambient/personal dose equivalent rates were determined from neutron spectra by measurements. Conclusion: Currently, the fields are available for calibration or performance test of neutron measuring instruments.

  • The present study was numerically and experimentally performed to investigate the fire suppression performance of water mist spray subjected to thermal radiation in closed space. Downward-directed water mist sprays to interact with an under kerosine pool fire were investigated in test facility The mass mean diameters of water mist droplet were measured by PMAS under various flow conditions. The developed water mist spray nozzle was satisfied to the criteria of NFPA 750, Class 1. The mechanism of the fire suppression by water mist was attributed to the cooling of the fire surface which lead to suppressed of fuel evaporation. It was proved that the water mist spray system under lower pressures could be applied to underground fire protection system.

  • This Paper presents circuit improvement of 345kV Bus bar protection panel by using VDD (Voltage disturbance detection) relay with distinctive ability between human error in the field test and real facility faults. Therefore, We expect that this improvement of circuit helps decrease of blackout coming from human error. In order to guarantee electric power system reliability, consistent study of human error prevention in the event of field test is necessarily required

  • Based on the fact that studies on the use of radiations have not been largely conducted reflected on the importance of the use of radiations, the survey was performed to investigate the attitude on the use of radiations for some university students who have a high level of knowledges among average persons in order to extract certain directions for the education program to provide right information. The survey was performed for 517 university students from Oct. 10 to Oct. 15, 2005. The results of this survey can be summarized as follows. 1. Students who have experienced in the radiation related education presented statical differences in the results according to the majoring and monthly incomes. 2. Regarding the survey on the attitude of the use of radiations, the item of 'I agree to build a general hospital or university hospital where I lives in' was presented as the highest points of $3.73{\pm}1.004$, and the lowest point was recorded in the item of 'I agree to build an atomic wastes treatment facility where I live in' as the point of $2.63{\pm}1.091$. 3. The level of attitudes on 'I agree to build an atomic power plant or atomic wastes treatment facility where I live in' presented lower levels than that of the attitude on 'I agree to build an atomic power plant or atomic wastes treatment facility in my country'. 4. The lowest level recorded in the level of attitudes on 'I agree to build an atomic wastes treatment facility where I live in 'presented a significant difference according to the sex and grade.
