In this paper, a new design method of H$H_\infty$-Qn PSS using genetic algorithm(GA) is proposed to efficiently damp low frequency oscillations despite the uncertainties and various disturbances of power systems. The selection method of evaluation function is proposed for selecting the robust PSS parameters. All QFT boundaries are satisfied automatically and H$H_\infty$-norm is minimized simultaneously without trial and error procedure. The eigenvalues and the damping ratio of dominant oscillation mode are investigated to evaluate performance of designed controller for one machine infinite bus system. A disturbance attenuation performance is investigated through singular value bode diagram of the system. Dynamic characteristics are considered to verify robustness of the proposed PSS by means of nonlinear simulations under various disturbances for various operating conditions. The results show that the proposed PSS is more robust than conventional PSS.
In this paper, optimal tuning problem of power system stabilizer(PSS) using Immune Algorithm(IA) is investigated to improve power system dynamic stability. In proposed method, objective function is represented as antigens. An affinity calculation is embedded within the algorithm for determining the promotion or suppression of antibody. An antibody that most fits the antigen is considered as the solution to PSS tuning problem. The computaton performance by the proposed method is compared with Genetic Algorithm(GA). The porposed PSS using IA has been applied for two sample system, single-machine infinite bus system and multi-machine power system. The performance of the proposed PSS is compared with that of conventional PSS. It is shown that the proposed PSS tuned using immune algorithm is more robust than conventional PSS.

The purpose of PSS is used to enhance damping of power system oscillations through injection of auxiliary signal for an excitation control terminal. The Proposed series and Parallel Sin+Cos PSS is connected adding the Sin+Cos terms additionally with serial and with parallel connection in a conventional PSS1A. The proposed controller is aim to considering of a damping of oscillation when it changes parameter fluctuations or operational load variations in a power system. The object of electric power system is KEPCO system and the voltage of power transmission line is a 154kV and a 345kV. The PSCAD/EMTDC package is used to authorize the effect of the proposed controller. Simulations were shown by and compared with the waveforms for frequency, voltage and electric power.
In this paper, a novel and robust Power System Stabilizer (PSS) is proposed as an effective approach to improve stability in electric power systems. The dynamic performance of proposed PSS has been thoroughly compared with Conventional PSS (CPSS). Both the Real Coded Genetic Algorithm (RCGA) and Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) techniques are applied to optimum tune the parameter of both the proposed PSS and CPSS in order to damp-out power system oscillations. Due to the high sufficiency of both the RCGA and PSO techniques to solve the very non-linear objective, they have been employed for solution of the optimization problem. In order to verify the dynamic performance of these devices, different conditions of disturbance are taken into account in Single Machine Infinite Bus (SMIB) power system. Moreover, to ensure the robustness of proposed PSS in damping the power system multi-mode oscillations, a Multi Machine (MM) power system under various disturbances are considered as a test system. The results of nonlinear simulation strongly suggest that the proposed PSS significantly enhances the power system dynamic stability in both of the SMIB and MM power system as compared to CPSS.

Novel power system stabilizers (PSSs) have been proposed to effectively dampen low frequency oscillations (LFOs) in multi-machine power systems and have attracted increasing research interest in recent years. Due to this attention, recently, fractional order controllers (FOCs) have found new applications in power system stability issues. Here, a tilt-integral-derivative power system stabilizer (TID-PSS) is proposed to enhance the dynamic stability of a multi-machine power system by providing additional damping to the LFOs. The TID is an extended version of the classical proportional-integral-derivative (PID) applying fractional calculus. The design of the proposed three-parameter tunable TID-PSS is systematized as a nonlinear time domain optimization problem in which the tunable parameters are adjusted concurrently using a modified group search optimization (MGSO) algorithm. An integral of the time multiplied squared error (ITSE) performance index is considered as the objective function. The proposed stabilizer is simulated in the MATLAB/SIMULINK environment using the FOMCON toolbox and the dynamic performance is evaluated on a 3-machine 6-bus power system. The TID-PSS is compared with both classical PID-PSS (PID-PSS) and conventional PSS (CPSS) using eigenvalue analysis and time domain simulations. Sensitivity analyses are performed to assess the robustness of the proposed controller against large changes in system loading conditions and parameters. The results indicate that the proposed TID-PSS provides the better dynamic performance and robustness compared with the PID-PSS and CPSS.

The power system stabilizer(PSS) is important for the suppression of low-frequency oscillation and the improvement of system stability. In this paper, An Adaptive Neurofuzzy-based Power System Stabilizer(ANF PSS) is proposed as the new PSS type. The proposed PSS employs a multi-layer adaptive network. The network is trained directly from the input and the output of the generating unit. The algorithm combines the advantages of the Artificial Neural Network(ANN) and Fuzzy Logic Control(FLC) schemes. Studies show that the proposed ANF PSS can provide good damping of the power system over the wide range of operating conditions and improve the dynamic performance of the system.
We propose a new generic design methodology for different types of PSS. Product - Service System (PSS) has received much attention recently from academia and industry because of its benefits. PSS can provide customers values and functionalities, as well as physical products, to fulfill economic, social and environmental goals. Many methodologies have been proposed for designing PSSs. Most of the existing methodologies are domain specific and were proposed to solve specific problems in certain projects. Some methodologies are generic but they provide neither guideline to practitioners and designers nor reflect the differences in various PSS types. As a generic approach to guide practitioners and designers in designing PSS effectively, the proposed methodology also takes into account user involvement, business model and organizational structure. The proposed methodology is demonstrated through design examples of different types of PSSs.
One important issue in power systems is dynamic instability due to loosing balance relation between electrical generation and a varying load demand that justifies the necessity of stabilization. Moreover, Power System Stabilizer (PSS) must have capability of producing appropriate stabilizing signals over a wide range of operating conditions and disturbances. To overcome these drawbacks, this paper proposes a new method for robust design of PSS by using an auto-tuning fuzzy control in combination with Real-Coded Genetic Algorithm (RCGA). This method includes two fuzzy controllers; internal fuzzy controller and supervisor fuzzy controller. The supervisor controller tunes the internal one by on-line applying of nonlinear scaling factors to inputs and outputs. The RCGA-based method is used for off-line training of this supervisor controller. The proposed PSS is tested in three operational conditions; nominal load, heavy load, and in the case of fault occurrence in transmission line. The simulation results are provided to compare the proposed PSS with conventional fuzzy PSS and conventional PSS. By evaluating the simulation results, it is shown that the performance and robustness of proposed PSS in different operating conditions is more acceptable
