Improved Collaborative Filtering Using Entropy Weighting

  • In this paper, we evaluate performance of existing similarity measurement metric and propose a novel method using user's preferences information entropy to reduce MAE in memory-based collaborative recommender systems. The proposed method applies a similarity of individual inclination to traditional similarity measurement methods. We experiment on various similarity metrics under different conditions, which include an amount of data and significance weighting from n/10 to n/60, to verify the proposed method. As a result, we confirm the proposed method is robust and efficient from the viewpoint of a sparse data set, applying existing various similarity measurement methods and Significance Weighting.

  • A practical approach of calculating the ultimate strength of composite beams with unreinforced web opening is proposed. In this method, the slab shear contribution at the opening is calculated as the smaller of the shear strength of the slab and the pullout capacity of the shear connectors at the high moment end. A simple interaction equation is used to predict the ultimate strength under simultaneous bending moment and shear force. Strength prediction by the proposed method is compared with previous test results and the predictions by other analytical method. The comparison shows that the proposed method predicts the ultimate capacity with resonable accuracy.

  • We proposed driving method with variable integration time for ambient light sensing. One operation period of the proposed driving method consists of several sub-integration periods with variable integration time which can enlarge dynamic range of ambient light sensing circuit. Temperature dependent characteristic of p-intrinsic-metal (p-i-m) diode can be compensated using the proposed driving method.

  • We propose a new static current source model and parameter extraction method for AlGaAs/GaAs HBT. The proposed model has 9 parameters describing internal currents and are experessed with the physically meaningful parameters.The proposed parameter extraction method uses the measured dC IV curves and does not need the gummel plt data and any optimization process. the constructed model based on the proposed method predicts the measured data well.

  • In this paper a new method is proposed to identify a modulation method in the case of unknown digitally modulated input signals. The proposed identification method is implemented with an artificial neural network which is based on characteristic feature extracted from the instantaneous amplitude the instantaneous phase and the instantaneous frequency of the input signals. The proposed method was simulated with 9 type signals (ASK2, FSK2, FSK4, PSK2, PSK4, PSK8, QAM8, QAM16) in a noisy communication environment. The results show that the artificial neural network can accurately recognize all kinds of patterns.

  • In this paper, a new watermarking method using an iterative scheme is proposed. The proposed method consists of two parts: watermark generation and its insertion. In the watermark generation, random signals with normalized distribution N(0,1) are produced and modified using an iterative scheme. In the watermark insertion, the resulting watermark signals are inserted into selected transform coefficients with various scaling parameters in order to achieve the invisibility and robustness against illegal attacks. The simulation results show that the proposed method has good performance for various attacks including image compression, filtering, etc.

  • We propose a new application method of the datamining technique that might help building an efficient trade strategy in the stock market, where the analysis of the huge database is essential. The proposed method utilizes the association rules among the price changes of individual stock from the market basket analysis (a datamining technique typically used in the Marketing field) in building the strategy We also apply the proposed method to the daily stock prices in Korean stock market, from Jan. 2000 to Dec. 2001. The application results show that the proposed method gives an significantly higher yield rate than the actual stock chage rate.

  • A learning control method is proposed in this paper, using a knowledge base which contains control rules, data, and patterns of the past experience of a plant. The knowledge for plant control is retrieved from measurement data during operation and continually modified after control performance evaluation. A control method is proposed using tinually modified after control performance evaluation. A control method is proposed using fuzzy model of the plant and a recursive statistic decision method of fuzzy subset for control rule generation. Also, the resulting knowledge-based control algorithm has been applied to aprocess and its performance improvement and proper generation of appropriate control rules have been verified.

  • The method proposed by Carson contains indefinite complex integral which simulates earth return current. Although the Carson solution is proposed with power series, the solution is limited and valid at special range of frequency. We proposed a simplified Carson solution by modelling earth current path analytical method using ground transmission line return current. In this paper, we studied on trying to find the equivalent distance for earth current return path.

  • In this paper, a method for providing musics in vehicle user's bio-rhythm is proposed. The proposed method is a method to select and play musics automatically suitable for the user's emotion. Experimental results confirmed that the proposed method could provide better satisfaction to the users (drivers) compared to the methods given randomly.
