Contractors' Perception towards Safety and its Consequences on Construction Workers in Cape Coast Metropolis

  • The construction environment has been declared as a hazard prone area due to high number of accident and death. The study aims to identify influential factors that contribute to poor safety practices and its consequences on construction workers in Cape Coast Metropolis. Seventy respondents were taken as the sample size for the study. Descriptive analysis was used to analyze the data obtained from the field. Findings show that poor site management, working without safety gadgets, failure to use their Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and negligence of workers were the main causes of accidents on sites. Poor site management had the highest ranking among the seven variables. Effects of poor safety practices on building construction site and delays in work execution were due to injury of workers, extra cost due to payment of compensation to injured victims, not motivated due to injury of worker and declined reputation of firm. Management team should motivate workers for safe work done, provide adequate PPE for their workers on site and have documented health and safety policy on site. Site authorities and management team should be on site regularly to ensure proper safety practices on construction site.

  • 초고층 공사에서 적합한 거푸집의 선정 여부는 프로젝트의 성패를 좌우하는 중요한 요인이다. 그러나 현재 국내 초고층 공사는 거푸집별 특성을 고려한 적합한 거푸집 선정이 이루어지지 못하는 실정이다. 합리적인 거푸집 선정을 위해서는 원가뿐 아니라 공기, 품질, 안전 및 환경적 측면을 포함하는 종합적인 고려가 요구된다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 원가, 공기, 품질, 안전 및 환경 측면에서의 거푸집별 적용성에 대해 비교${\cdot}$분석하고자 한다. 이를 위해 초고층 공사 실무자들을 대상으로 거푸집 선정시 관리 우선순위 및 거푸집별 적용성에 대한 설문조사를 실시하였다. 본 연구의 결과는 거푸집 선정시 보다 합리적인 의사결정에 기여할 것으로 판단된다.

  • Recently BIM technology has been expanded for using in construction project. However its spread has been delayed than the initial expectations, due to the high-cost of BIM infrastructure development, the lack of regulations, the lack of process and so forth. In construction site phase, especially the analysis of current research trend about IT technologies, virtualization and BIM service, data exchange such as drawing, 3D model, object data, properties using cloud computing and virtual server system is defined as a most successful solution. The purpose of this study is enable the cloud computing BIM server to provide several main function such as edit a model, 3D model viewer and checker, mark-up, snapshot in high-performance quality by proper design of VDI system. Concurrent client connection performance is a main technical index of VDI. Through test-bed server client, developed VDI system's multi-connect control will be evaluated. The performance-test result of BIM server VDI will effect to development direction of cloud computing BIM service for commercialization.

  • 정부에서는 고비용 저효율의 건설산업을 저비용 고효율의 고부가가치 산업으로 한 단계 올려놓기 위한 노력의 일환으로, 가치공학(Value Engineering)기법을 활용하여 기능과 품질을 향상시키면서 비용을 절감하고자 기본설계와 실시설계단계에서 VE를 실시하도록 법령 및 지침을 제정 공포한 바 있다. 그러나 각종자료에 나타나 있는 VE추진절차는 나름대로의 특징을 가지고 있기는 하지만 사용하는 용어, 추진단계의 구분, 단계별 활동내용 등이 상이하여 설계VE 수행자들에게 적잖은 혼란을 불러일으키고 있다. 이와 같은 혼란의 여지를 경감시키기 위하여 본 연구는 설계W와 관련한 세 종류의 문헌과 네 종류의 제도 및 사례를 각각 조사, 비교, 검토하여 VE추진절차와 활동내용에 관한 차이점과 문제점을 도출한 후, VE전문가들의 의견수렴을 통하여 개선된 설계VE 추진단계와 활동내용을 제시하였다.

  • Recently, many performing arts facilities are under construction to accommodate people's various interest in cultural experiences. However, due to Korea's lack of know-how in such constructions and an absence of proper regulations on design planning, each designer designs and constructs the facilities differently, so several problems are occurring in the process of construction, such as high production cost for stage sets, high labor cost, low efficiency of stage work, and complicated work process. This resulted in low quality production of performance. This study is conducted to address the need for a systematic study on stage floor, and to propose an efficient way of regulating stage work in existing performing arts facilitiesand new facilities to be built. By a comparative analysis of performing arts facilities in Korea, and by analyzing stage floors of the facilities, this research suggests minimum modules as well as an appropriate unit of modules based on the minimum modules; and provides basic data on stage floors, which can be used for remodeling existing facilities orfor planning new cultural facilities. Also, this study suggests various ways of utilizing performing arts facilities in Korea.

PSO 최적화 기법을 이용한 Ethylene Oxide Plant 배치에 관한 연구 (The Research of Optimal Plant Layout Optimization based on Particle Swarm Optimization for Ethylene Oxide Plant)

  • In the fields of plant layout optimization, the main goal is to minimize the construction cost including pipelines as satisfying all constraints such as safety and operating issues. However, what is the lacking of considerations in previous researches is to consider proper safety and maintenance spaces for a complex plant. Based on the mathematical programming, MILP(Mixed Integer Linear Programming) problems including various constraints can be formulated to find the optimal solution which is to achieve the best economic benefits. The objective function of this problem is the sum of piping cost, pumping cost and area cost. In general, many conventional optimization solvers are used to find a MILP problem. However, it is really hard to solve this problem due to complex inequality and equality constraints, since it is impossible to use the derivatives of objective functions and constraints. To resolve this problem, the PSO (Particle Swarm Optimization), which is one of the representative sampling approaches and does not need to use derivatives of equations, is employed to find the optimal solution considering various complex constraints in this study. The EO (Ethylene Oxide) plant is tested to verify the efficacy of the proposed method.

  • Cost related to building equipment accounts for about 85% of the life cycle cost of buildings. Therefore proper selection of air-conditioning system is important for reducing the overall cost of buildings. In this study, large capacity ice thermal storage and absorption chiller-heater for air-conditioning a building with a floor area of $9,900\;m^2$ are compared economically. For easy input and analysis, an Ms Excel VBA program has been developed. To consider all the factors of initial and operation costs effectively, an annual equal payment method is proposed. Under the assumptions made in this study, overall cost of an absorption chiller-heater is less than that of an ice thermal storage, but this is not absolute and different outcome may result if different assumptions are made. This study is useful for those who are interested in choosing an economical air-conditioning system for large-size buildings with simple calculations.

  • 건설업 '산업안전보건관리'라 함은 발주자로 하여금 공사종류 및 규모에 따라 일정금액을 도급금액에 별도로 책정토록 하여 건설공사 중 발생할 수 있는 각종 재해를 미연에 예방코자 사용되는 금액을 의미한다. 이러한 안전관리비는 1988년 2월 고용노동부고시로 제정되었고 이를 근거로 기획재정부"계약예규"'예정가격 작성기준'이 마련되어 건설공사공사 원가계산 제비율 적용기준의 산업안전보건관리비로서 공사종류별 및 대상 금액별 요율이 차등 책정되어 활용되고 있다. 그러나 건설업에 대한 관리기술의 발전 및 건설현장 여건변화, 비용에 대한 감가삼각, 안전보건관리기술 발전 및 관련 정책변화 등 건설업이 대내 외적으로 다양한 환경변화가 이루어져왔음에도 불구하고 안전관리비 요율 책정은 1988년 고용노동부 고시로 제정된 이래 현재까지 변경 없이 그대로 적용되고 있다. 따라서 이 연구의 목적은 고용노동부 고시에서 제시하고 있는 건설업 산업안전보건관리비 사용 실태에 대한 현황 조사 및 설문분석을 통해 현(現) 건설현장 안전관리 실태에 부합되는 산업안전관리비 적정 요율을 공사종류 및 대상액별로 제안하는 것이다. 건설공사를 수행함에 있어 적정 산업안전관리비의 산정 및 사용은 건설 안전관리 분야의 업무 효율성 제고는 물론 궁극적으로는 건설공사의 안전사고 비율 저감에 긍정적인 영향을 미칠 것으로 기대된다.

공종별 수선비용 추계모델을 활용한 공동주택 장기수선충당금 적립금액 산정 (Repair Accumulation Cost for the Long-Term Repair Plan in Multifamily Housing Using the Forecasting Model of the Repair Cost)

  • Purpose: Apartment housing should conduct a cyclic repair to keep and maintain the building performance since they are constructed. Therefore, the repair plan would be provided for long term period which explains the repair time, items and repair cost. Residents of apartment housing are responsible to pay for the repair activities. For repair cost, residents would reserve the money for repair little by little continuously until the required repair time because the repair cost takes a big burden for residents and lots of money a time. But, there is no systematic approach to provide the long term repair cost because it is no proper forecast of the repair cost to the upcoming repair time. In this study, it aimed at providing the monthly accumulation of the long term repair cost with the survey data in Seoul. Method: For these, the surveyed data are classified into 6 categories and number of data are 1,918. In addition, it developed the repair cost model for the 24 repair works and the cumulation function which is reflected with the each cost model. Result: This study are shown as follows : First, among the various estimation for the repair cost, the power function has a goodness of fit in statistics. Second, the monthly accumulation would be 12,840 won/household in size of $100,000m^2$ management area and $81.7won/m^2$ in size of the 1,000 household number during 40 years.

신교통시스템의 교차로 제어기술연구 (Study of control technical of cross load at New traffic system)

  • In comparison with different mass transportation systems, the streetcar is lower, both in speed and transportation capacity. However, it has the advantage of reducing the cost of construction, because it makes infrastructure simple, by using the road. It is proper in the city, where the population is few, to raise the efficiency of traffic. The convenience is high to passengers. On time accuracy and the commercial speed is influenced by operating condition. Generally that is organized into 21m degree in 6 quantity. All passengers in a streetcar are about 180 people. The maximum speed is 40~60km/h. When road traffic is considered, the speed can be reduced to 15km/h. To enhance the speed, the construction of a priority signaling system is necessary which is integrated with the road traffic operation information system. In order to develop a better Traffic Control System which is connected to a Traffic Control Center, a Priority Signaling System which incorporates Intersection Control Technics must be included.
