A 2×2 MIMO Spatial Multiplexing 5G Signal Reception in a 500 km/h High-Speed Vehicle using an Augmented Channel Matrix Generated by a Delay and Doppler Profiler

  • This paper proposes a method to extend Inter-Carrier Interference (ICI) canceling Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) receivers for 5G mobile systems to spatial multiplexing 2×2 MIMO (Multiple Input Multiple Output) systems to support high-speed ground transportation services by linear motor cars traveling at 500 km/h. In Japan, linear-motor high-speed ground transportation service is scheduled to begin in 2027. To expand the coverage area of base stations, 5G mobile systems in high-speed moving trains will have multiple base station antennas transmitting the same downlink (DL) signal, forming an expanded cell size along the train rails. 5G terminals in a fast-moving train can cause the forward and backward antenna signals to be Doppler-shifted in opposite directions, so the receiver in the train may have trouble estimating the exact channel transfer function (CTF) for demodulation. A receiver in such high-speed train sees the transmission channel which is composed of multiple Doppler-shifted propagation paths. Then, a loss of sub-carrier orthogonality due to Doppler-spread channels causes ICI. The ICI Canceller is realized by the following three steps. First, using the Demodulation Reference Symbol (DMRS) pilot signals, it analyzes three parameters such as attenuation, relative delay, and Doppler-shift of each multi-path component. Secondly, based on the sets of three parameters, Channel Transfer Function (CTF) of sender sub-carrier number n to receiver sub-carrier number l is generated. In case of n≠l, the CTF corresponds to ICI factor. Thirdly, since ICI factor is obtained, by applying ICI reverse operation by Multi-Tap Equalizer, ICI canceling can be realized. ICI canceling performance has been simulated assuming severe channel condition such as 500 km/h, 8 path reverse Doppler Shift for QPSK, 16QAM, 64QAM and 256QAM modulations. In particular, 2×2MIMO QPSK and 16QAM modulation schemes, BER (Bit Error Rate) improvement was observed when the number of taps in the multi-tap equalizer was set to 31 or more taps, at a moving speed of 500 km/h and in an 8-pass reverse doppler shift environment.

  • This paper presents a cooperative transmission scheme for underwater acoustic sensor networks to improve packet transmission rate and reduce energy consumption. Source node transmits duplicated information relayed by distributed antennas called a virtual antenna array. Destination node combines that information to reduce packet error rate. The suggested cooperative scheme enhances the reliability by providing high diversity gains through intermediate relay nodes to overcome the distinct characteristics of the underwater channel, such as high transmission loss, propagation delay, and ambient noises. It is suggested that the algorithm select destinations and potential relays from a set of neighboring nodes that utilize distance cost, the residual energy of each node and local measurement of the channel conditions into calculation. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme reduces average energy consumption, response time, and increases packet delivery ratio compared with the SPF(Shortest Path First) and non-cooperative scheme using OPNET Moduler.

  • Underwater wireless communication systems can be useful for underwater environment observation, catastrophe prevention, ocean resources exploration, ocean organism research, vessel sinking exploration, and so on. However, unlike terrestrial wireless communication, underwater wireless communication should consider factors such as long propagation delay, limited transmission capacity, high bit-error rate due to potential loss in power, ambient noise, man-made noise, multi-path, etc., because of the inherent characteristics of water. Thus, in this paper, we propose a suitable media access control(MAC) protocol that applies a combination of the ALOHA MAC protocol and the CSMA/CA MAC protocol to underwater environment. We further propose a mathematical analysis model to evaluate performance. We also verify performance improvement in the proposed scheme in comparison with existing MAC protocols.

Approximation of a Warship Passive Sonar Signal Using Taylor Expansion (테일러 전개를 이용한 함정 수동 소나 신호 근사)

  • A passive sonar of warship is composed of several directional or omni-directional sensors. In order to model the acoustic signal received into a warship sonar, the wave propagation modeling is usually required from arbitrary noise source to all sensors equipped to the sonar. However, the full calculation for all sensors is time-consuming and the performance of sonar simulator deteriorates. In this study, we suggest an asymptotic method to estimate the sonar signal arrived to sensors adjacent to the reference sensor, where it is assumed that all information of eigenrays is known. This method is developed using Taylor series for the time delay of eigenray and similar to Fraunhofer and Fresnel approximation for sonar aperture. To validate the proposed method, some numerical experiments are performed for the passive sonar. The approximation when the second-order term is kept is vastly superior. In addition, the error criterion for each approximation is provided with a practical example.

Performance analysis of turbo codes based on underwater experimental data (수중 실험 데이터 기반 터보 부호 성능 분석)

  • The performance of underwater acoustic communication systems is sensitive to inter-symbol interference caused by delay spread developed from multipath signal propagation. The multipath nature of underwater channels causes signal distortion and error floor. In order to improve the performance, it is necessary to employ an iterative coding scheme. Of the various iterative coding schemes, turbo code and convolutional code based on the BCJR algorithm have recently dominated this application. In this study, the performance of iterative codes based on turbo equalizers with equivalent coding rates and similar code word lengths were analyzed. Underwater acoustic communication system experiments using these two coding techniques were conducted on Kyeong-chun Lake in Munkyeong City. The distance between the transmitter and receiver was 400 m, and the data transfer rate was 1 Kbps. The experimental results revealed that the performance of turbo codes is better for channeling than that of convolutional codes that use a BCJR decoding algorithm.

Carrier Phase Based Cycle Slip Detection and Identification Algorithm for the Integrity Monitoring of Reference Stations

  • In order to ensure the high-integrity of reference stations of satellite navigation system, cycle slip should be precisely monitored and compensated. In this paper, we proposed a cycle slip algorithm for the integrity monitoring of the reference stations. Unlike the legacy method using the Melbourne-Wübbena (MW) combination and ionosphere combination, the proposed algorithm is based on ionosphere combination only, which uses high precision carrier phase observations without pseudorange observations. Two independent and complementary ionosphere combinations, Ionospheric Negative (IN) and Ionospheric Positive (IP), were adopted to avoid insensitive cycle slip pairs. In addition, a second-order time difference was applied to the IN and IP combinations to minimize the influence of ionospheric and tropospheric delay even under severe atmosphere conditions. Then, the cycle slip was detected by the thresholds determined based on error propagation rules, and the cycle slip was identified through weighted least square method. The performance of the proposed cycle slip algorithm was validated with the 1 Hz dual-frequency carrier phase data collected under the difference levels of ionospheric activities. For this experiment, 15 insensitive cycle slip pairs were intentionally inserted into the raw carrier phase observations, which is difficult to be detected with the traditional cycle slip approach. The results indicate that the proposed approach can successfully detect and compensate all of the inserted cycle slip pairs regardless of ionospheric activity. As a consequence, the proposed cycle slip algorithm is confirmed to be suitable for the reference station where real time high-integrity monitoring is crucial.

  • It is very difficult to achieve sufficient data rate and required quality of service due to the time-varying nature of the radio channel and various jammers such as path loss, delay, Doppler, shadowing and interference. Especially, the propagation path between the transmitting antenna and the tracking antenna mounted on the fuselage during the test and evaluation of the projectile system considered in this paper is based on the rapid movement of the projectile, the interference due to multipath fading due to the terrain, The propagation path may be blocked. In order to effectively improve the multipath fading occurring in the wireless communication system, a diversity combiner technique is required. In this paper, to derive the design and improvement schemes for the space diversity combiner technique among the diversity combiner schemes, the BER performance of maximum ratio combining (MRC) and selection combining (SC) In an adaptive SC / MRC diversity combiner that operates with MRC when it is lower than the specified threshold criterion when comparing the SNR between two signals received from the channel and operates with SC at high and combines the two received signals The BER performance of the system was compared and analyzed.

  • Recently, the use of wireless communication systems has been rapidly increasing, which results in a difficult problem in efficient control of limited frequency resources. As a way of solving this problem, the ultra wideband time hopping impulse radio system attracts much attention. The impulse radio system communicates pulse position modulated data using Gaussian monocycle pulses of very short duration less than 1 nsec. Thus the transmitted signal has very low power spectral density and ultra wide bandwidth from near D.C. to a few GHz. It is blown that it hardly interferes with the existing communication systems because of its very low power spectral density. The purpose of this paper is to characterize multipath propagation of the impulse radio signal and to evaluate the performance of the correlator-based receiver for the multipath environments. In this paper, we consider the deterministic two-path model and the statistical indoor multipath model of Saleh and Valenzuela. For the two-path model the output of the correlator with the ideal reference waveform varies according to the relative difference between the indirect path delay and the time interval of PPM, and to the indirect path gains. In addition, the characteristics of bit error rates is measured for the two models through computer simulation. The simulation results indicate that the performance of the impulse radio system depends both on the relative difference between the indirect path delay and the time interval of PPM, and on the indirect path gains. Furthermore, it is observed that the reference signal designed for the AWGN channel can not be applied to the multipath channels.

  • The cautious blasting works had been used with emulsion explosion electric M/S delay caps. Drill depth was from 3m to 6m with Crawler Drill ${\phi}70mm$ on the calcalious sand stone (soft -modelate -semi hard Rock). The total numbers of test blast were 88. Scale distance were induced 15.52-60.32. It was applied to propagation Law in blasting vibration as follows. Propagtion Law in Blasting Vibration $V=K(\frac{D}{W^b})^n$ were V : Peak partical velocity(cm/sec) D : Distance between explosion and recording sites(m) W : Maximum charge per delay-period of eight milliseconds or more (kg) K : Ground transmission constant, empirically determind on the Rocks, Explosive and drilling pattern ets. b : Charge exponents n : Reduced exponents where the quantity $\frac{D}{W^b}$ is known as the scale distance. Above equation is worked by the U.S Bureau of Mines to determine peak particle velocity. The propagation Law can be catagorized in three groups. Cubic root Scaling charge per delay Square root Scaling of charge per delay Site-specific Scaling of charge Per delay Plots of peak particle velocity versus distoance were made on log-log coordinates. The data are grouped by test and P.P.V. The linear grouping of the data permits their representation by an equation of the form ; $V=K(\frac{D}{W^{\frac{1}{3}})^{-n}$ The value of K(41 or 124) and n(1.41 or 1.66) were determined for each set of data by the method of least squores. Statistical tests showed that a common slope, n, could be used for all data of a given components. Charge and reduction exponents carried out by multiple regressional analysis. It's divided into under loom over loom distance because the frequency is verified by the distance from blast site. Empirical equation of cautious blasting vibration is as follows.   • Problems arising during pile design works for plant construction, civil and architecture work are mostly come from uncertainty of geotechnical characteristics. In particular, obtaining the N-value measured through the Standard Penetration Test (SPT) is the most important data. However, it is difficult to obtain N-value by drilling investigation throughout the all target area. There are many constraints such as licensing, time, cost, equipment access and residential complaints etc. it is impossible to obtain geotechnical characteristics through drilling investigation within a short bidding period in overseas. The geotechnical characteristics at non-drilling investigation points are usually determined by the engineer's empirical judgment, which can leads to errors in pile design and quantity calculation causing construction delay and cost increase. It would be possible to overcome this problem if N-value could be predicted at the non-drilling investigation points using limited minimum drilling investigation data. This study was conducted to predicted the N-value using an Artificial Neural Network (ANN) which one of the Artificial intelligence (AI) method. An Artificial Neural Network treats a limited amount of geotechnical characteristics as a biological logic process, providing more reliable results for input variables. The purpose of this study is to predict N-value at the non-drilling investigation points through patterns which is studied by multi-layer perceptron and error back-propagation algorithms using the minimum geotechnical data. It has been reviewed the reliability of the values that predicted by AI method compared to the measured values, and we were able to confirm the high reliability as a result. To solving geotechnical uncertainty, we will perform sensitivity analysis of input variables to increase learning effect in next steps and it may need some technical update of program. We hope that our study will be helpful to design works in the future.
