항력감소분석을 위한 항력산출에 대한 연구 (Study on the Drag Determination for Analyzing Base Bleed Effects)

  • 본 논문은 비행시험의 결과를 이용하여 항력 및 항력감소 분석을 위한 항력계수 산출기법에 대하여 기술하였다. 2차원 탄도운동방정식의 역산을 통하여 비행시험을 이용한 항력계수 산출방법에 대하여 정리하였으며 155 mm 탄의 비행시험을 통하여 이론적인 항력계수와 시험결과로부터 산출된 항력계수를 비교하여 항력계수 산출 기법에 대한 검증을 수행하였다. 항력감소제가 적용된 탄의 비행시험결과를 이용하여 항력계수 산출 및 항력감소 양상을 분석하였다.

포 발사 고체연료 램제트 탄의 설계 및 성능해석에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Design and Performance Analysis of a Gun-Launched Projectile with Solid fuel Ramjet(SFRJ))

  • 본 연구에서는 155 mm 고체연료 램제트 추진 탄의 설계방법을 제시하였고 수학적 모델링을 통한 비행성능 해석 프로그램을 개발하였다. 비행성능 해석을 통하여 추력, 비추력, 압력 회복률, 충격파의 위치, 항력의 크기 등 비행 중 램제트 성능을 예측하였다. 비행탄도 해석결과 RAP에 비하여 90 % 정도의 사거리 증대효과를 나타내었다. 또한 노즐 출구 면적비와 흡입구 면적의 변화에 따른 사거리 변화의 추이를 살펴보았다. 제시된 모델링과 시뮬레이션 방법은 램제트 탄의 개발에 필요한 설계 자료로 매우 유용할 것이다.

발사체 후방동체형상에 따른 기저항력에 대한 수치적 연구 (Numerical study of base drag of afterbodies for launch vehicles)

  • The projectile afterbodies for zero-lift drag reduction has been analyzed using the Navier-Stokes equations with the $\kappa-\epsilon$ turbulence model. The numerical method of a second order upwind scheme has been used on unstructured adaptive meshes. Base drag reduction methods that have been found effective on axisymmetric bodies include boattailing, base bleed, base comustion, locked vortex afterbodies and multistep afterbodies. In this paper, the charateristics of turbulence flow have been studied for geomeries of multistep afterbodies. The important geometrical and flow parameters relevant to the design of such afterbodies have been identified by number, length and height of step. The flow over multistep afterbodies has been analyzed including expansion waves, recompression waves, recirculating flow, shear flow and wake flow. The numerical results have been compared and analyzed with the experimental datum.

  • 점화제 주입 특성을 모사할 수 있는 2차원 이상유동의 강내탄도 해석코드 개발하였다. 장약인 추진제의 연소 해석을 위해 Eulerian-Lagrangian 접근법과 LSHUS 기법을 적용하였다. 탄자의 이동에 따른 이동경계면의 해석을 위해 Ghost Cell Extrapolation method를 사용하였다. 개발된 2차원 강내탄도 해석코드는 무차원 강내탄도 해석 코드인 IBHVG2와 기존에 개발된 1차원 강내탄도 해석코드와 비교 검증하였다. 항력식에 따른 이상유동의 비교에서 항력식이 탄자탈출속도의 수치적 해석에 영향을 주는 것을 확인하였다.

Computational analysis of compressibility effects on cavity dynamics in high-speed water-entry

  • The objective of this study is to analyze the compressibility effects of multiphase cavitating flow during the water-entry process. For this purpose, the water-entry of a projectile at transonic speed is investigated computationally. A temperature-adjusted Tait equation is used to describe the compressibility effects in water, and air and vapor are treated as ideal gases. First, the computational methodology is validated by comparing the simulation results with the experimental measurements of drag coefficient and the theoretical results of cavity shape. Second, based on the computational methodology, the hydrodynamic characteristics of flow are investigated. After analyzing the cavitating flow in compressible and incompressible fluids, the characteristics under compressible conditions are focused upon. The results show that the compressibility effects play a significant role in the development of cavitation and the pressure inside the cavity. More specifically, the drag coefficient and cavity size tend to be larger in the compressible case than those in the incompressible case. Furthermore, the influence of entry velocities on the hydrodynamic characteristics is investigated to provide an insight into the compressibility effects on cavitating flow. The results show that the drag coefficient and the impact pressure vary with the entry velocity, and the prediction formulas for drag coefficient and impact pressure are established respectively in the present study.

The numerical method of a second order upwind scheme has been used on an unstructured adaptive grid system. Base drag reduction methods that have been found effective on axisymmetric bodies are boattailing, base bleed, base combustion, locked vortex afterbodies and multistep afterbodies. In this paper, turbulence flow and pressure charateristics have been studied for geometries of multistep afterbodies. The important geometrical and flow parameters relevant to the design of such afterbodies have been identified by step number, length and height. The flow over multistep aftoerbodies or base have many kinds of compressible flow characteristics including expansion waves at the trailing edge, recompression waves, separation and recirculating flow in the base region, shear flow and wake flow. The numerical results have been compared and analyzed with the experimental data. The flow characteristics have been clearly shown.

  • 탄도수정탄은 기존 포탄의 신관에 카나드가 장착된 조종 장치를 탑재하여 정확도를 향상시키는 지능탄이다. 본 논문에서는 2D 탄도수정탄의 카나드를 설계하기 위하여 다양한 형상 변수에 대한 공력성능을 반실험적 기법을 이용하여 분석하였으며, 이를 바탕으로 초음속에서 항력이 상대적으로 더 적은 카나드 형상을 설계하였다. 또한 CFD 기법을 통한 탄도수정탄의 공력해석 기법을 연구하였으며, 포탄의 탄저 부분 기저항력 예측에 O-type 격자를 바탕으로 한 k-${\omega}$ SST 난류모델이 적합함을 확인하였다. 최종적으로 앞서 개발한 해석 기법을 바탕으로 2D 탄도수정탄의 공력특성 및 탄도조종장치 장착에 따른 항력변화를 계산하였다.

Penetrating chest trauma from a "less lethal" bean bag in the United States: a case report

  • This case report presents the case of a 49-year-old man who presented to our level I trauma center after sustaining injuries in an altercation with local law enforcement in which he was shot with a less lethal bean bag and tased. In a primary survey, a penetrating left supraclavicular wound was noted in addition to a taser dart lodged in his flank. No other traumatic findings were noted in a secondary survey. Given hemodynamic stability, completion imaging was obtained, revealing a foreign body in the left lung, a left open clavicle fracture, a C5 tubercle fracture, a possible grade I left vertebral injury, and a left first rib fracture. Soft tissue gas was seen around the left subclavian and axillary arteries, although no definitive arterial injury was identified. The bean bag projectile was embedded in the parenchyma of the left lung on cross-sectional imaging. The patient underwent thoracotomy for removal of the projectile and hemostasis. A thoracotomy was chosen as the operative approach due to concerns about significant bleeding upon foreign body removal. A chest tube was placed and subsequently removed on postoperative day 5. The patient was discharged on postoperative day 7. At a 2-week outpatient follow-up visit, the patient was doing well. This case report is the first to describe this outcome for a drag-stabilized bean bag. Although law enforcement officers utilize bean bag projectiles as a "less lethal" means of crowd control and protection, these ballistics pose significant risk and can result in serious injury.

Supersonic Base Flow by Using High Order Schemes

  • We performed numerical analysis of base drag phenomenon, when a projectile with backward step flies into atmosphere at supersonic speed. We compared with other researchers. From our previous studies that were 2-dimensional simulation, we found out from sophisticated simulations that need dense mesh points to compare base pressure and velocity profile after from base with experimental data. Therefore, we focus on high order spatial disceretization over 3rd order with TVD such as MUSCL TVD 3rd, 5th, and WENO 5th order, and Limiters such as minmod, Triad. Moreover, we enforce to flux averaging schemes such as Roe, RoeM, HLLE, AUSMDV. In present, one dimensional result of Euler tests, there are Sod, Lax, Shu-Osher and interacting blast wave problems. AUSMDV as a flux averaging scheme with MUSCL TVD 5th order as spatial resolution is good agreement with exact solutions than other combinations. We are carrying out the same approaches into 3-dimensional base flow only candidate flux schemes that are Roe, AUSMDV. Additionally, turbulence models are used in 3-dimensional flow, one is Menter s SST DES model and another is Sparlat-Allmaras DES/DDES model in Navier-Stokes equations.

소구경 탄자의 충돌속도 추정방법 제안 (A new method to estimate the striking velocity for small caliber projectiles)

  • 본 논문은 MIL-STD-662F의 방호한계속도 산출을 위해 충돌속도를 추정하는 새로운 방법을 제안하였다. 기존 MIL-STD-662F의 방법은 충돌속도를 추정하기 위해 상대공기밀도, 항력계수, 형상인자, 탄도계수 등이 필요하여 기초연구가 필수적이라는 한계를 가지고 있다. 하지만 제안한 방법은 기초연구 없이도, 기기에서 측정된 속도와 측정기기와 타격점까지 거리만으로 충돌속도를 추정할 수 있다. 이를 검증하기 위해 M193탄과 M80탄을 사용하였고, 미국의 검증된 PRODAS의 데이터를 기반으로 MIL-STD-662F 방법의 충돌속도 추정값과 제안한 방법의 충돌속도 추정값을 비교하고 분석였다. 실험결과에서 제안한 방법이 일부 속도구간에서는 MIL-STD-662F의 방법보다 오차가 크지만 방호한계속도 산출은 가능하였고, 대부분의 속도구간에서는 MIL-STD-662F보다 오차가 작다는 것을 보였다.
