Three-dimensional modelling of water flow due to leakage from pressurized buried pipe

  • A three-dimensional model is constructed to simulate water infiltration in an unsaturated slope from a leaking pipe. Adaptive mesh refinement and time stepping are used, assisted by an automatic procedure for progressive steepening of the hydraulic property function for better convergence. The model is justified by comparing the simulated results with experimental data. Steady-state flow is investigated considering various pipe water pressures, locations and sizes of the opening, and soil layering. The opening size significantly affects the soaked zone around the pipe. Preferential flow dominates along the pipe longitudinal direction in the presence of a loose backfill around the pipe.

Cu/Ag 복합판재의 전기/기계적 성질 및 프레스 성형성에 관한 연구 (A study on electrical and mechanical properties and press formability of a Cu/Ag composite sheet)

  • In this study, a novel Cu composite sheet with embedded high electric conduction path was developed as another alternative for the interconnect materials possessing high electrical conductivity as well as high strength. The Cu composite sheet was fabricated by forming Ag conduction paths not within the interior but on the surface of a high strength Cu substrate by damascene electroplating process. As a result, the electrical conductivity increased by 40% thanks to mesh type Ag conduction paths, while the ultimate tensile strength decreased by 20%. The interfacial fracture resistance of Cu composite sheet prepared by damascene electroplating increased by above 50 times compared to Cu composite sheet by conventional electroplating. For feasibility test for practical application, a leadframe for LED module was manufactured by a progressive blanking and piercing processes, and the blanked surface profile was evaluated as a function of the volume fraction of Ag conduction paths. As Ag conduction path became finer, pressing formability improved.

  • This study has an ultimate purpose to find some change direction of education in the Korean language education field, that is, in and out of the Korean language classroom keeping up with social changes. Especially, this study will investigate progressive educational ways in terms of not only developing software, but also grafting hardware relating to mobile technologies. For this, this study will classify the cases of teaching and learning happened in and out of Korean language classrooms and to introduce practical ways of education to apply mobile technologies according to the each case. As a concrete method, this paper proposed a change plan of classroom change that incorporates 'Miracast' and 'smart phone' and a change plan out of the classroom using mesh. This study can be meaningful in that the teaching and learning are linked more organically through the smart phone and the education is called 'IoT world' so that both teachers and learners can easily access education.

광범위 연조직 괴사를 동반한 괴저농피증의 치험례 (Clinical Experience of Pyoderma Gangrenosum with Extensive Soft Tissue Necrosis)

  • Purpose: Pyoderma gangrenosum is a rare cutaneous ulcerative disease. First described in 1930, the condition is characterized by progressive ulceration with deeply undermined purple-red edge. The lower extremities are most commonly affected but other parts of the skin and mucous membranes may also be involved. Although medical treatments with topical wound therapy are commonly used, surgical intervention is still controversial. In this paper, we report an atypical case of pyoderma gangrenosum which was characterized by extensive soft tissue breakdown. Methods: A 27-year-old male patient was referred to our institution with a $7{\times}8cm$ sized deeply undermined ulceration with pus-like discharge and fever. Incision and drainage was performed at another clinic 3 days prior to admission to our institution. After a thorough physical examination and the MRI review, a diagnosis of necrotizing faciitis was made. Accordingly, fasciotomy and debridement was performed. However, the wound enlarged progressively and the patient remained highly febrile for 9 days after the treatment. Septic screening did not reveal any occult infection. After a secondary review of the case, the initial diagnosis of necrotizing fasciitis was rejected and changed to pyoderma gangrenosum. With the use of dexamethasone intravenously, the wound improved dramatically and the fever was eliminated. Steroid mediation was tapered with duration of 1 month. The wound was stabilized and subsequently covered with split-thickness skin graft. Results: Split-thickness skin grafting with 1 : 1.5 mesh was successfully taken. Conclusion: Initial clinical features of pyoderma gangrenosum are very similar to that of necrotizing fasciitis. High fever and progressive ulceration with severe pain could invite earlier surgical approach. The advancing wound margins (the well defined violaceous, undermined border and necrotic ulcer base) and lack of isolation of pathogenic organism was used to make the correct diagnosis of pyoderma gangrenosum. We achieved a good result with proper medication and split-thickness skin graft.

  • 경량기포콘크리트(ALC : Autoclaved Lightweight Concrete)의 내구성을 개선하기 위하여 투숩 및 투수, 편면동결융해 특성과 탄산화 특성을 실험하였다. 국산 ALC전용마감재는 방수용 도장재에 가까운 투습 및 투수성질을 갖고 있어 특성의 개선이 요구된다. 편면동결융해시험에서 마감재의 투습도에 따른 열화위치는 투습도가 클수록 외측에서 발생하였으나 투수에 의한 외부의 박리열화는 관찰되자 않았다. 탄산화는 수분의 함량이 작을수록 빠르게 진행되었으며 탄산화가 진행됨에 따라 기공량은 감소하였다. 탄산화가 완전히 진행되면 부피의 팽창으로 균열이 발생하였다.

A Study on Investigation for Effectiveness of Natural Minerals with Silica-Component as Admixture for Concrete

  • 본 연구는 콘크리트용 혼화재로서 우리나라에 풍부한 천연 실리카 질 광물을 이용하여 콘크리트의 강도증진 가능성 및 유용성과 경제적인 효율성에 대해 검토한 것이다. 제반 실험을 통해 얻어진 결론을 요약하면 다음과 같다. \circled1 최적의 제오라이트 치환율은 단위 시멘트당 5~10% 정도를 나타났으며, 그 때의 강도 증진율은 무첨가 콘크리트 값에 비해 대체적으로 40%정도의 강도증진 효과를 얻었다. \circled2 최적의 이암 치환율은 단위 시멘트량당 10~15% 정도로 나타났으며, 그때의 강도 증진율은 무첨가 콘크리트 값에 비해 대체적으로 10%정도의 강도증진 효과를 얻었다. 이러한 검토로부터 우리는 혼화재로서 콘크리트의 강도성능의 향상을 목적으로 기존의 실리카 흄, 플라이 애쉬 등의 대체품으로 천연 실리카 광물을 활용할 수 있다는 결론을 얻었다.

Validation study on numerical simulation of RC response to close-in blast with a fully coupled model

  • The characteristic response of a structure to blast load may be divided into two distinctive phases, namely the direct blast response during which the shock wave effect and localized damage take place, and the post-blast phase whereby progressive collapse may occur. A reliable post-blast analysis depends on a sound understanding of the direct blast effect. Because of the complex loading environment and the stress wave effects, the analysis on the direct effect often necessitates a high fidelity numerical model with coupled fluid (air) and solid subdomains. In such a modelling framework, an appropriate representation of the blast load and the high nonlinearity of the material response is a key to a reliable outcome. This paper presents a series of calibration study on these two important modelling considerations in a coupled Eulerian-Lagrangian framework using a hydrocode. The calibration of the simulated blast load is carried out for both free air and internal explosions. The simulation of the extreme dynamic response of concrete components is achieved using an advanced concrete damage model in conjunction with an element erosion scheme. Validation simulations are conducted for two representative scenarios; one involves a concrete slab under internal blast, and the other with a RC column under air blast, with a particular focus on the simulation sensitivity to the mesh size and the erosion criterion.

  • 본 연구에서는 암반의 국부파괴 현상을 현실적으로 모형 화하기 위하여 혼합체기법을 적용한 새로운 유한요소를 제안하였다. 이를 위하여 각 유한요소의 적분점에서 재료의 안정성을 검토하고 필요시 국부파괴 요소와 인접한 암반 물성을 이용한 혼합체 물성을 도출하였으며 국부파괴 후의 재료 거동을 추적하였다. 제시한 모형을 사용하면 변형율 연화 모형을 사용하더라도 유한요소망의 객관성을 유지할 수 있으며 국부파괴 이후 재료의 거동을 현실적으로 모형화 할 수 있다. 또한 유한요소 갯수가 비교적 작더라도 수치해석 결과와 실험 결과가 잘 일치하고 있음을 알 수 있다.

Decompressive Surgery in a Patient with Posttraumatic Syringomyelia

  • Posttraumatic syringomyelia may result from a variety of inherent conditions and traumatic events, or from some combination of these. Many hypotheses have arisen to explain this complex disorder, but no consensus has emerged. A 28-year-old man presented with progressive lower extremity weakness, spasticity, and decreased sensation below the T4 dermatome five years after an initial trauma. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) revealed a large, multi-septate syrinx cavity extending from C5 to L1, with a retropulsed bony fragment of L2. We performed an L2 corpectomy, L1-L3 interbody fusion using a mesh cage and screw fixation, and a wide decompression and release of the ventral portion of the spinal cord with an operating microscope. The patient showed complete resolution of his neurological symptoms, including the bilateral leg weakness and dysesthesia. Postoperative MRI confirmed the collapse of the syrinx and restoration of subarachnoid cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) flow. These findings indicate a good correlation between syrinx collapse and symptomatic improvement. This case showed that syringomyelia may develop through obstruction of the subarachnoid CSF space by a bony fracture and kyphotic deformity. Ventral decompression of the obstructed subarachnoid space, with restoration of spinal alignment, effectively treated the spinal canal encroachment and post-traumatic syringomyelia.

정점증식을 이용한 사진트리 기반 지형 시각화 기법 (Quadtree-based Terrain Visualization Using Vertex Multiplication)

  • 사진트리는 지형 시각화를 위한 점진적인 메쉬 생성에 널리 사용되는 자료구조이다. 사진트리는 빠른 상세단계 선택과 효과적인 시각절두체 선별이 가능하다. 하지만 계층적인 자료구조이므로 CPU에서만 사용할 수 있고 그래픽 하드웨어의 랜더링 파이프라인에서는 활용할 수 없다. 따라서 기존의 사진트리 기반 지형 시각화 기법들은 GPU를 이용한 다른 시각화 방법들에 비하여 CPU 의존도가 크고 처리시간이 오래 걸린다. 본 논문에서는 정점증식을 이용하여 GPU만으로 지형을 렌더링 하는 방법을 소개한다. 이 방법은 기존의 CPU를 이용한 사진트리기반 방법들에 비하여 화질의 저하 없이 빠른 속도로 렌더링 할 수 있다.
