A Study on the Improvement for Productivity of Construction Subcontract (건설 하도급 생산성 개선 방안 연구)

  • Construction market structure give to third subcontract from contractor that received bid. A general contractor is subcontract to subcontractor that construct final product. When the subcontractor is related with productivity on the site, a study is lack to subcontractor productivity. The property of construction industry include many subcontractor at one project. If a subcontractor will improve productivity, total productivity would improve on the site. We will understand about subcontractor productivity and suggest about productivity method.

  • This paper aims to develop a new chain metrics for obtaining lean Overall Equipment Effectiveness(OEE) and present implementation strategy which considers the properties for Total Productive Maintenance(TPM) to reduce machine losses, Performance Analysis and Control(PAC) to reduce labor losses, Lean Production System(LPS) to reduce floor wastes, and Theory of Constraints(TOC) to minimize the problem of Capacity Constrained Resource(CCR). The study reviews the related literatures and reformulates the structure of machine losses, labor losses and field wastes. The research also develops the integrated productivity metrics according to time, units, reliability and maintainability. It is found that the study develops the actual productivity measure in terms of efficiency, effectiveness and standard productivity. In addition to that, it outlines and develops by using the integrated LPS and TPM, lean OEE measures such as Time Based Productivity(TBP), Unit Based Productivity(UBP), and Reliability & Maintainability Based Availability(RMBA). Implication examples are proposed to make it easier and available for practioners to understand the implementation strategies about TPM OEE, lean OEE and TOC OEE. Futhermore related to other studies, the research contributes to create a new chain productivity measures to clear the interrelationship concepts of productivity, efficiency and effectiveness. Moreover the paper develops the enhanced OEE measures by integration of TPM, PAC, LPS and TOC with the perspective of schedule, throughput, reliability, maintainability and availability.

Fiscal Convergence and Total Factor Productivity: Firm-Level Evidence from Pakistan

  • This study examines the impact of corporate tax, a fiscal measure along with trade liberalization and research and development on total factor productivity for a panel of 153 industrial firms listed on the Pakistan Stock Exchange over the period 1997-2017. For empirical analysis, we employ the system generalized method of moment estimator. In the first step, we estimate industrial production function and the results reveal that raw material, industrial labour force and energy play vital role in enhancing industrial production. Whereas, industrial capital exerts negative impact on industrial output. We also measured total factor productivity using the production elasticities. In the second step, we examine the impact of corporate tax, trade liberalization and research and development on total factor productivity. The results indicate that higher level of corporate tax exerts negative impact on total factor productivity. The findings reveal that higher corporate taxation discourages industrial firms to undertake research and development thereby exerting adverse impact on total factor productivity of firms. The impact of trade liberalization proxied by average tariff is positive while customs duty and sales tax negatively impact firm-level total factor productivity. These findings provide useful insights for managers, investors and policy makers in Pakistan.

  • In today's construction industry, buildings have been more complicated and higher, the demands of steel works have been increasingly concerned, which makes the schedule planning and management more significant. However, in actual construction sites, management is more based on a manager's construction experience than productivity data accumulated in previous projects. Moreover, most of the existing studies also featured a theoretical approach rather than an analysis of data straightforwardly collected in sites. In this study, a steel-erection site was visited to collect productivity data. The study found that there were significant disparities between aboveground work productivity and underground work; one tower crane operated work and two tower crane operated; and work productivity conducted in clear weather condition, cloud and rainy. However, the productivities of 'first node on ground' and 'second node on ground' were estimated similar. The productivity data collected and factors affecting the productivity will help managers to plan and control their similar steel-erection works. This study will also be beneficial for those performing related studies.

  • Construction productivity is a key factor for efficiency evaluation of construction work process, project performance measurement, and basic data of work plan in construction industry. However, although construction productivity is important in construction industry, gathering methodology and analyzing methodology of productivity data are not well-organized therefore productivity data is not utilized in the construction industry The purpose of this study is to develop productivity prediction system using data mining technology based on activities and to suggest frameworks about productivity data collection, accumulation.

The Productivity Impact of Working from Home and the Moderating Effect of Task Characteristics: An Empirical Investigation of Field Data (재택근무가 업무 생산성에 미치는 영향과 업무 특성의 조절 효과: 대규모 현장 데이터를 활용한 실증 분석)

  • Purpose - This study aims to empirically identify the quantitative effects of work from home (WFH) on employee productivity using field data. Design/methodology/approach - Based on large-scale field data from a South Korean company which introduced the WFH arrangement in 2020, we conducted fixed effect and moderating effect analyses using individual-level panel data over sixty-three weeks. Findings - The empirical analysis generated several findings. It was found that overall, WFH has a positive effect on productivity. However, the productivity impact of WFH was found to vary depending on task characteristics. Specifically, WFH led to over 20% increase in productivity for simple and repetitive tasks. On the other hand, no significant productivity impact was observed for professional and knowledge-based tasks. Research implications or Originality - As the first study based on field data from South Korea, this study offers convincing causal evidence of the moderating impact of task characteristics on the relationship between WFH and productivity. Further, the above findings provide managers with practical insights concerning their work arrangement decisions.

Assessment of Productivity and Foodservice Management Practices in Elementary School Foodservices Located in Seoul and KangNung (서울.강릉지역 초등학교 급식소의 급식생산성 분석)

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the foodservice management practices and productivity in elementary schools in order to provide basic information for an efficient food service management. This approach was achieved using a variety quantitative and qualitative information including general foodservice management, managerial and operational factors, and the productivity in elementary school foodservice systems. The labor productivity in 28 school foodservice system was assessed and related to a number of influencing variables within the system. The productivity measurement was based upon the total meal equivalents as a ratio of the total direct and non-direct labor hours required to prepare these meals. Twenty-eight elementary schools located in Seoul and Kangnung were surveyed to get data for the variables. Questionnaire and a survey form were mailed. Statistical methods used in this study were descriptive analysis, $\chi$$^2$-test, 1-test and one-way ANOVA analysis. Elementary schools in Seoul were all located in urban areas, whereas elementary schools in Kangnung were in urban areas (40.0%), provincial areas (40.0%) and in isolated areas (20.0%). Total average number of meals including children and staff was 928.2${\pm}$ 650.0 with a yery significant difference (p<0.001) between Seoul and Kangnung. The average cost of school meal in Seoul and Kangnung were 1191.0 won and 1526.2 won, respectively. The result of Pearson Correlation analysis indicated that labor cost per meal, 1-week meal equivalents and meal equivalents per labor were significantly correlated with the productivity.

The Impacts of Technology Transfer on Productivity Growth of Firms based on Malmquist Productivity Index

  • This study determines whether or not firms can achieve high productivity growth through external technology acquisition. It also identifies the key factors affecting adopting firms' productivity growth by employing the Malmquist productivity index (MPI) methodology, which features computational ease, low data dependency, and decomposition of productivity growth into technical efficiency change and technical change. Results showed that the effects of productivity growth arising from technology transfer became stronger over time. Moreover, patent transfer guaranteed firms' productivity growth, but no evidence was found that factors such as age and size could increase productivity. Finally, cultural similarity could be another factor conditioning the effectiveness of technology transfer in the productivity of adopting firms.

  • This study public hospital productivity and private hospitals, comparative analysis was divided into capital productivity, labor productivity, value-added productivity, based on the findings public hospitals are able to ensure the public interest to provide stable and profitable health services of good quality.   • This study measures the research productivity of IS researchers in South Korea. In this study, we select 11 leading IS journals, those are MIS Quarterly(MISQ). Information Systems Research(ISR), Journal of Management Information Systems(JMIS), Journal of the Association for Information Systems(JAIS), European Journal of Information Systems(EJIS), Information Systems Journal(ISJ), Decision Support Systems(DSS). Communications of the Association for Information Systems(CAIS), Information and Management(I&M), Journal of Strategy Information Systems(JSIS), and Journal of Information Technology(JIT). We analyzed the published articles of IS researchers in South Korea between 2007 and 2009 using scientometric techniques for measuring research productivity. The findings of this study provide evidences that IS research productivity has become a comprehensive information to business tool to assist advertizing of electing student of IS department and university, and take a person into IS professor in the IS job market. IS productivity research on Korean IS researcher rarely showed. The unique study showed valuable contributions for academicians to provide a better comprehension of publishing trend of leading IS journals.
